Most food for sale at NZ supermarkets is made in NZ or Australia. No excuses about our distance from other countries. Supermarkets, banks and fuel companies always have healthy profits
It wasn’t this expensive in NZ, I used to be able to buy a huge bag of fruit and veg for $20 for 2 people and it lasted all week. Those days are gone, supermarkets are now robbing us.
I searched a lot on RU-vid for this topic and your video is precise to the point and most honest one. This will certainly help many people who want to come to new zealand. Thanks for sharing this video and lots of best wishes for your RU-vid career.
In the UK you can get food out of season very cheap ,in NZ you need to buy by the season ,in NZ WE HAVE JUST HAD THE WORST WETTEST WINTER ,so fresh food is very expensive as a lot of produce was ruined by the rain ,floods and the wind ,also as the people that normaly do the harvesting are only now being allowed in to N Z , post COVID, , plus you have the two supermarket chains making record profits . You live in Auckland a very expensive place to buy fresh produce . A very good post by you.
I am planning to come there for studies I am yet to decide whether I should go for university of Auckland or Auckland University... In either case what will be a good place to look accommodation for as in don't need at the heart of city it will cost a fortune... But distance enough that there regular buses are there... Or should go like take a distant place but then but a car which one would you say n what place to look for a accommodation
@@CreativeReaper90s it depends really. I’ve spend a week traveling through the north island on a hop on hop off bus (Kiwi experience, highly recommand) and I’ve spend around ~1100 euro all together.
Don't move this country is full grap... only good if u ur 60s and wanna relax.. other than u just become tax slave...sun is extremely harmful for skin..its really boring place on earth
A must…shopping for fruit and vegetables should be done in season. You will be paying more out of season. If you tend to stay….grow your own produce as well
If your total internet bill is $80 per month, that's actually about what it should be for a consistently cheap plan. While it might seem like there are cheaper options, they're usually a result of some kind of bundle (such as with electricity) that just shifts the cost elsewhere, or it might be like $70 for the first six months and then some fine print that says it's $90 per month after that on a minimum 1 year contract.
I have kept accurate records of income and spending for 33 years. As an example in 2001 with a wife and 6 kids to support annual spending was $20914.85 or $1742.90 a month. Our bread consumption peaked out at 35 loaves a week. Just a comparison for your amusement.
This is a great video! Thank you for being so candid and detailed, I'm definitely going to watch more of your videos. Do you know what a regular office job for someone in say Marketing would pay on a monthly basis? I know it's broad but a range or ball park would be very helpful.
Loved this video sm, thank you for being so transparent. I’m in the process of adjusting my budget atm and it was SO NICE to hear your genuine takes/feelings/comparisons to UK etc. Thank u !!
Thanks a lof for this video! I teach English to Russians, we love to watch videos on the cost of living in various cities and countries. I'm gonna share this one with them
New subscriber from South Africa and just came across your channel.I just say that I thoroughly enjoy your insights around the living expenses in NZ 🙌🙌🙌👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Incoming Canadian perspective from someone who lived there a year in 2015-2016. Your experience will definitely vary depending on which country you are coming from! I can only speak for Canadians and to a degree maybe Americans as well but I found NZ very expensive. Some stuff was more some stuff was less but overall quite a bit more pricey. I don't even earn the top rate for my profession in Canada and when I worked in NZ in the same profession I earned $50,000NZD less than what I would have earned in Canada that year. A HUGE drop in pay plus stuff being more expensive brought my overall quality of life way down. NZ's beauty and weather too me are unmatched and the people are amazing but make sure you do your research! To me its a wicked place to do your Working Holliday Visa or even Retire but to do your whole adult working life there (coming from Canada) I think it would he a struggle big time. If you're coming with a bunch of money, coming from a lesser quality country or have a very high education job than its definitely a spot to consider. If I won a ton of money I'd honestly probably move back there in a heartbeat but in my current position its just too expensive.
What part of Canada are you from? I find these prices very comparable to BC (minus the groceries , but everything else is cheaper so I find it evens out)
@@sav479 I'm from and currently live in Nova Scotia but lived for quite a few years in Alberta as well. I was in New Zealand pre-covid inflation but I'm sure they got hit just as hard in recent years. Honestly some stuff was less some stuff was more but overall it was still way more expensive. Without factoring in that my wage got cut near in half it was still more expensive. Car insurance on a beater was cheaper and phone bills were better in New Zealand. At the time I went to NZ eating out was more expensive, having a drink at a bar was more, gas was more, bottled drinks from a corner store were more, gym memberships were more, clothing was more, electronics were more, hotels were crazy. At the time the house you could buy in New Zealand for Say 500k would be half the size with half the property you would have in Canada. Our Canadian currency is also worth 20% more so its easier to take a bunch of your savings there with you than vice versa. Dont get me wrong NZ is amazing and I'd live their in a heartbeat if I could afford it but for your average person it wouldn't be easy.
Yes, standard blog jobs only pay minimum wage, that is why only highly educated people are welcome. We definitely have enough people already in NZ to fill minimum wage jobs.
Hi Kat, you made a very nice video with detailed expenditure on a monthly basis. Would you make a video on the earnings of an international part time student employee in NZ too. Your perception and view of the expense is quite good and easy to manage.
Your 'share' of this one person flat is 1,040 New Zealand Dollars, that makes roughly 450-500 euro's, and that is only you? So together you pay around a 1,000 euro's, or 1,050 dollars for a small flat? When going to New Zealand you would think more of something in or near nature.
I'm Kiwi not good anymore, unless ya White even the brown people who have been here 100s of year's aren't liked, guess ,its a global thing, All First nations people are shat apon,
Wifi I pay 96 a month. For unlimited. The bests way to beat this is .pay 25 a week .witch is a 100 a month. Put you 4 dollars in Gredit every month. I get money taken out every week it's easier
Quite frankly, prices sound pretty close to what we're currently paying in South Africa for most things...and at least in NZ you actually get to use the services you're paying for 😅
Does NZ have farmers markets? I thought NZ has many farms. Maybe it should be cheaper to buy fresh produce from market stalls and direct from farm shops. Also organic is healthier.
dont know who your using for your phone contract but damn thats expensive and limited.... i use orcon in nz.. $42 a month... unlimited nz/aus txt and calls mobile or landline with 6gb data that rolls over to next month..!
Hey! V useful video, thank you!! I'm moving to NZ this year and I was just wondering about renting a flat in Auckland - did you find most are 12 month contracts and do you need to have a job before renting? As in the UK they are normally q strict about having a job first. Thanks! x
Hi Zoe - we found that quite a few places were open to a 6 month lease (that’s what we did) and we didn’t need jobs before but only because we were lucky enough to have some savings that we could pay upfront and we had to also give records of our bank accounts. A better option if you can’t do that is flat sharing for sure 👌
There is racism, but you'll find that more on the Sth Island, if you make an effort to meet people, you will be fine,we don't care where you're from,or what skin colour you have, your character will take you further.
Don't want to say anything crazy or show off as a smart ass BUT doesn't this sound kinda modern prison? You are free to do whatever you like but we don't let you be rich? My Grandma in Albania used to say : the end is when we're ending up buying water💧! The natural resources which before belonged to God nowadays belong to some individuals!!! 5$ /pepper🌶... WTH in deed! Wonderful videos, big up to you and congratulations👏! Thanks
