guess because they've been operating for almost a century at this point... through all the scandals etc. with zero actual repercussions for anything. mostly it is older people who still worship the BBC looking past all of the garbage for "muh public service broadcasts" public service my rear end edit: BBC founded in 1922 so they've been operating for over a century now. unless there is a serious change in average public sentiment (e.g. older generations not worshipping them) it'll likely just get worse
Absolutely, when you think of all the great British companies that have been allowed to go to the wall some probably through bad management what is so sacrosanct about the BBC. It's a dead man walking trying to save the cost of a funeral.
I don't even own a TV - haven't had one for donkeys years - any Council that thinks it's going to get money out of me for absolutely nothing will be facing Court Action. I get little enough for my Council Tax as it is. It goes up by 5% a year regardless, because of every Councils' spend thrift ways , my annual wage does not go up by 5% a year to compensate - it hasn't gone up in many years !
Peter Bazalgette formed his own production company Bazal which produed daytime filler for BBC with progs such as; Ready Steady Cook, Changing Rooms and Groundforce. He is the great-great-grandson of Victorian civil engineer Sir Joseph Bazalgette who engineered the new sewer system for London. In his Evening Standard tv review column, Victor Lewis Smith said that Peter Bazalgette was carrying on the family tradition by channeling shit to our tv screens!
If they start doing that, I will simply avoid paying it, stick me in prison. It will cost you more to house and feed me 3 meals a day then the cost of the tax a year.... I WIN they LOSE!
I’m telling you now, the BBC has been having behind closed doors meetings with other broadcasters regarding TVL, currently only the BBC get paid from it, these meetings will be discussing a TV Tax because if it goes ahead then the other broadcasters will get a cut of the pie, therefor the other broadcasters will publicly “mention” a tv tax when they can as it’ll be in their interest
That’s a valid point if you watch ITV, but don’t watch BBC you still have to pay for the BBC surely the license fee should be split up between the broadcasters and radio stations evenly, could you imagine Amazon Netflix, ITV all getting a even cut based on viewership. But unfortunately, the BBC thinks it has a God-given right to exist.
Why would they impose a TV tax? Simple; TV licence fee is reducing rapidly as more and more people, dissatisfied with the "service" they get from the BBC, are refusing to pay it. Either the BBC joins the real world and becomes a subscription service (much too much like hard work for the BBC) or they find a way of restoring to previous levels the amount of money that lands in its lap. I reckon there is a real danger that some form of TV tax is on its way.
I imagine that the public vote will state that 66 million people will demand that the licence fee is kept and indeed includes a price hike. Nothing bent about voting huh 😂😂😂 those votes will probably include the deceased too😂
To make the licence into a tax will need parliament legislation. The biggest fear is if the licence is changed from criminal to civil where the burden of proof is lower. While the TV licence is a criminal offence it's harder to get a conviction unless people are stupid enough to convict themselves.
The problem with the Polish system is that it is receiving funding from the Government - so somewhere, the people are being taxed for it. There should be no involvement from governments over media delivery. If they want to license their chambers & house of commons equivalents that's another matter entirely.
Whilst watching an old American series from downloaded content, there were the black bits where advert breaks had been removed... Plus.... Adverts in the corners of the screen whilst the program was running
Move abroad and receive BBC and all the other live stations for free, live in the UK and pay for everyone. Tax on our wages, council tax on our living, tax on our driving, tax on our our purchases and tax on our savings, will it be worth actually working in the UK. Rip off Britain. Is it legal for the BBC to take ITV and all the other broadcasters and group it as the BBC tax??
The fairest way would be to either have advertisements like ITV or have a subscription service, then if you want to watch a biased BBC then you pay and if don't want to watch it, then you don't need to pay it.
What about the Australian system? Here, we don't have a TV licence, the ABC is paid out of taxes. True, our public broadcast channels are pretty crappy but we have plenty of commercial alternatives that are free. Also, if you don't pay taxes then TV is totally free.
Okay everybody - I'm going to rent out my spare room starting next month. Everyone will have to pay me for that spare room whether you are the occupant or not.
Love your videos, please keep them coming. I have emailed you a drone video of one of the BBC sites from above. Unfortunately, I don't think I can share it here but if viewers search ''IF that goes over the EASTENDERS set, our drone ALERTER will bring it down'' I think they should find it. More bull about a supposed drone ALERTER. I am not linked to this channel I am just a RU-vid viewer. BBC phone 999 for a non-emergency and don't get a response which is good to see.
I'm not paying any tax for TV. I won't watch it or own a TV if it comes to that. Other countries dont charge for watching TV... I think taxes need a significant overhaul to many taxes and minimal public spending, which affects the economy. No wonder why we are in shitty slow growth and a massive amount of taxes. Huge country debt. Upwards to trillions insane.
Why should my working age children pay for something they have no interest in, The system is outdated. So many young people do not watch TV or even have the means to watch TV directly. A monthly Tax would be scandalous.
Another with a knighthood i have never heard, an ofcourse governments giving knighthoods to anybody with a successful company, rather than somebody that has done something for their fellow people.!!!!!!
Bazalgette is descended from the fellow who built London's sewers. Stephen Fry's joke was that the previous Bazalgette pumped it away from people's homes. This one pumps it in.
Good luck with that Pete....if it becomes a monthly tax, refuse en masse to pay, and if it is added to the council tax then ditto! .....how many things do you pay for Pete...that you neither need or want?
If he believes in taxing the country I'll accept. If he accepts 99.9% tax of his large wage or pension be taxed. Who do they think they are. Let the BBC go it alone they,ed show advertising then. Stop the TV licence it's a scam, another tax.
council tax is payed to fund public services without a choice to how and where it is spent and what a shambles councils have made of that if the bbc want to survive get a better accountant
Jon, l don't watch any TV at all, not even catch up TV. What l don't understand is why the other channels that have to fund themselves, don't kick up a fuss about the fact they have to pay to get airtime, but the BBC can, and do get funded by the public. If they at least spoke up about it, I'm sure that would help them, and the Joe public. Why are they silent???
did anyone knew or know that the tv license was introduced by the gpo aka general post office which was formed of royal mail and general post office and the royal mail split from the gpo and the gpo later became bt british telecom
I'd love a public vote for the license, sadly we live in the UK and voted to shoot ourselves in the foot not so long ago because of a massive misinformation campaign, whos to say it wouldn't happen again?
Did you say his name was sir Basiljet? I wonder if he familly are the same as the little known civil engineer of the same name that essentially created the sewage system in initially London but then everywhere that we still use today.A genius but naturally most of his work was underground so few even know its there or how it works.Every engineer knows of Brunnel or Telford but that man was arguably the most important engineer of that same time.
nope... wouldn't pay it... even if they make it a tax... why should I be forced to pay for something I don't use and don't want. It's the equivalent of my local fishmonger sending me an invoice every month when I'm allergic to seafood.
The tv licence is a national tax system that everyone is supposed to pay for and it hasn't worked. It's becoming very expensive for the consumer and the BBC is continously struggling resulting in cuts to services. In the 70's the licence was the best thing ever. Only now in 2024 there's so many better cheaper alternatives to live broadcast telly out there that most people just don't bother to pay for it. These broadcaster's have to move with the times otherwise they'll go bust and trying to compare having a national tv tax to that of the NHS. I would say our health is more important than having a public funded broadcaster. If it was the last broadcaster in the UK and there was no alternative then I'll consider funding the BBC. Atm it's just not necessary. As for Channel 4 that first started out as a brain child to the government to cater to the younger teenage demographic. Teenager's simply aren't watching anymore so the brainchild can be put to bed like all other government schemes that have outstayed their welcome. So long, Bon Voyagé, Aú Revoir BBC and Channel 4... will not be missing ya.
Yeah lets adopt the German system then we can give the BBC 187.20 per year (Thats on the costing of Germany) that's around £20.00 more than they will collect after April's scandalous hike ---- Erm No Thank You -
What a stupid idea. Nobody should pay for a service not used or wanted. If its silly ideas let's put licence fees on bicycle sales. Or some other group. Just make a product people want and will pay for.
Just to prove that modern life is rubbish take a look at all those miserable black, grey, and white austerity cars. Even when you get colour it’s the same old red except for the yellow ish one in the background. It’s either an unspoken conspiracy of shame or a nation in mourning.
If they had monthly tax it would be fair if it was only a small charge like £10.00 per month but the fees were split amonst all the Freeview channels and all those channels had to show adverts to get their main source of income the fee would just be a small top up but only people who watch freeveiw tv would have to pay the fee like a subscription like you do for sky or netflix that would be a modern and fare system although you wouldn't no longer class the Freeview channels as Freeview
Yep.....then next comes a tax on Toasters......coffee makers......hair dryers......electric toothbrushes.....electric razors.....DVD players.......Electric Ovens.......Air Fryers......Mobile Phones......Computers......solar panels......Radio Controlled Cars.....Microwave ovens, AND......electrical items from Anne Summers.......all in the interests of saving the planet of course in their cases. Anything a human needs to survive, entertained by, used for food storage or preparation, or personal hygiene will be taxed. The word "Tax" in the license fee is to reclaim ALL the lost revenue where people cancel, or declare no need for a licence legally. But rest assured..... they'll tax the above mentioned at some point too. Corruption at its VERY best in good old UK.
I pay for schools with my taxes but I dont have kids. However, we need schools for the benefit of society so I'm happy to pay for that. No one needs to watch broadcast TV though!
I don’t even see why I should pay for the current woke indoctrination that passes for schooling here with no kids.I chose not to have them just like mainstream tv so……
I will have you know I went to school as a female and I am still one! and what I learnt about the industrial revolution and the pyramids has held me in good stead!@@TONE11111
Actually they do already because the car tax (VED) does not pay for the roads, the road budget comes out of general taxation. But roads are necessary for everyone whether they have a car or not. The BBC isn't.
I don’t drive but we are all charged road tax because the people that do pay it we pay for are food to be delivered no tv is watched in my home & I am breaking no law fact I am licence free & will be the day I die
well of course they should: don't you realise the damage that pedestrians cause waddling down the streets and as to those pensioners with their zimmer frames the repeated impacts from their METAL legs is quite possibly the cause of half the potholes that we see. Roll on the day when councils are allowed to charge these vandals an extra Zimmer tax to cover the additional damage they cause.
I don't even have a TV, because I don't watch or need one. Why should I pay tax for something I not only don't use, but can't use? Also why does it need to be well over the price of any streaming platform? Oh yeah, because our glorious propaganda outlet doesn't have enough money for a gold-plated newsroom.
I'm in no mood to pay a TV Tax to funds people who like to 'choose' from the kid's menu. If you need the tv licence fee as a life support to keep you going, maybe your not good enough as a broadcaster to begin with?
If Peter Bazalgette, whose claim to fame is his great great grandfather, Sir Joseph Bazalgette, who created the central London sewerage system in response to the *Great Stink* of 1858, wishes to pay for Auntie good for him, but he has no right whatsoever to suggest that *everyone* is *_forced_* to pay for an outmoded system that should have dǐed off long ago.
Dear Sir Peter. I pay a council tax for services I don't bl00dy receive, so I'm not paying a TV tax for something i neither want nor need. 2 words to Sir Peter..... FOXTROT OSCAR. ✌️
@@focusmicroindeed - regardless of what the money gets spent on, we still have to fork out our hard earned dosh. Splitting hairs over what it gets spent on is purely an exercise in semantics and as such, a complete waste of time and effort !
