Les Glorieux! From Richard to Beliveau to Lafleur to Gainey! There will never be another generational dynasty like the Habs! Real hockey ended in 2000 ...
What, nothing from round 3??? Wtf. The 3rd game of that series at MSG was one of the greatest exhibitions of goaltending ever. How you don't include some of it is really hard to understand.
I've been a Habs fan all my life. Born in 1969 and the first cup I vividly remember was the 1977 victory against Boston. But, the 86 Cup will always be my favourite.
@@simonmarshall19 They both were!! But I believe '86 ranks a little higher because that team had a mixture of youth & veterans like Gainey & Robinson still on the team.
@@simonmarshall19 The '86 & '93 runs to the Cup are somewhat similar because both wins occurred during a time of dynastic hockey teams in the Oilers & Pens. Remember that had the Flames not won against the Oilers in the conference final, then the Oilers would've advanced against the Habs in the final & in all likelihood would've defeated them for their 3rd straight Cup. Had the Isles not shocked the Pens in the 2nd round, then the Pens & Habs would've faced off for the right to go to the final, with the Pens likely winning that series & playing for a chance at a 3 peat as Cup champs.
It's incredible to think the Canadiens lost 3 games to Hartford and the rest of the playoffs they lost 2 total. Hartford had some heartbreaking losses to Montreal over the years but this has to be the one that haunts them the most because once Edmonton was out, it was really wide open. Let's face it, if there was ever a year a team could look back and wonder if they could have won it all, surely the Whale would have the right to wonder about '86.
in the 1st Rd when i saw Robinson going all out fighting i knew this was going to be a different playoffs ! Then they beat Hartford - i knew Mtl was going somewhere. What a victory parade . it's stuff of legend. There are full chapters in books about it ! Oh yeah, and we had this kid in nets who was a phenom !
Daveyboy: Man, you're right about the parade!! After reading what you wrote, I did a Google search. I watched videos re the parade, and I have seen plenty of videos. I have also read a few articles re the parade. Daveyboy, I can't believe you were a witness to that! Unreal, man!
Daveyboy: Like you told me before, the Mets had epic parade that year as well (October of '86). Have you ever seen footage of the Dallas Cowboys victory parade in February, 1993? Check it out! There are videos on You-Tube. It may compare with the Habs parade from '86.
Funny though. His rookie season was not spectacular. Going 23-18-3 with a 3.36 GA and a .875 sv% on the year. Gary Suter actually won Rookie of the Year in 1986. But as St Patrick of Roy showed everyone that year, his forte was the playoffs. Raised his game to sometimes ridiculous levels like in 1986 rolling through the playoffs with a 1.96 GA and a .923 sv%. Plus Larry Robinson playing like it was 1976 again🤣🤣🤣🤣. He won the Conn Smythe in 1976.
This has team made me stop being a fan of the Habs. Far cry from the class and fair toughness of the 70's. This team were hackers and whackers. Lemieux, Skrudland, Chelios , Corson, Ludwig, Nilan etc. Just an awful bunch of cheap shot artists.
Dunno if your being sarcastic...but yes a pretty good 2 way player with 5 stanley cups...played with Rejean Houle and Yvon Lambert...pretty good scrapper...then he sadly became the coach...cause his buddy Houle was the gm...(an horrible one)....not quite as good in that position sadly costing us P Roy!
