Well… the nice parts are well kept much like any big city. Montreal actually has some massive trash and litter problems depending on on the neighborhood
@@GavinMichaels Ummm... What neighborhood ? I'm a Montrealer, and i'm not aware of any ''massive trash and litter problems" Little anecdote... I had an American girfriend from St. Louis, and she said Montreal is the cleanest city she ever visited.
I went to Montreal Canada 2 weeks ago. I was in Old Montreal. I absolutely loved it. I am planning on going back in a few. Can't wait. I will visit these places when I go again.
@@johnbender2806no matter where you are in the city, even if you go away from downtown, you can easily be served in English. People here speak easily 2 to 3 languages minimum.
@@jack-sz1kx Absolutely. You guys think Shania Twain, Alanis Morissette, Pamela Anderson, Michael J. Fox, Wayne Gretzky, Alex Trebek belong to you !! Lol. Celine Dion and Georges St-Pierre, perhaps not, because they have French accents.
@@mathewvanostin7118 I've been to Notre Dame de Paris, and multiple Cathédrale on the west coast of France all of them took my breath but and la Basilique notre Dame too is beautiful.
Montréal was call ville aux mille clochers and Mark says you can't throw a rock without break a church windows. So if you love church there's many beautiful to visit :)
@@JB0i John Alexander Ogrodnick. He was the Detroit Red Wings top scorer for 6 consecutive seasons. In 1984 he scored 55 goals. We went to high school together in Edmonton, Alberta.
@@jaloopaz hahahaha yeah keep kidding yourself.....Vancouver is plain vanilla yougurt....Montreal is chocolate pudding with whipped cream and cocaine springled on top
@yusufhasaan8781 I would not call it 'hidden'. It is one of North America's top 10 urban centers and it is the second largest French-speaking city in the Western world after Paris.
FYI, almost as good smoked meat can be found at Snowdon Deli (on the less than scenic Decarie Blvd) and Lester's (on the far nicer Bernard in Outremont).
Montreal is an absolute shit hole. I know, I live there. Junkies on every corner in every borough. Safe injection sites for junkies. Loads of homeless people (I was one for 7 years). Mafia, crime, gangs, shootings, drugs etc).
As an anglophone that has lived my whole life in Montreal, here are some corrections: 1) Notre Dame Basilica is pronounced as Notre DAM (As in an electric dam) Basicila in English here. 2) There is no such thing as Old Town Montreal. It's called the Old Port.
I went back in march of last year for a few days and loved it also the food was amazing. Would love to go back some day, I live in Ontario so I most likely will
Montreal is a beautiful city. For me personally, I love Quebec city. My Dad is from Quebec, i was vorn and raised in Ontario. We go to Quebec often. Its beautiful.
@@calikokat100 You can have consecutive days of tough cold in january. In february it can be cold but not for many consecutive days unlike in january. It can be -15° celcius at 7 a.m. and it will be -3° at noon.
I went to montreal 2019 November right before covid. My hotel has new names but it was pronounced “goovernot hotel” corner of st Catherine. McDonald’s right around corner!!! Can’t forget Canada
Montrealers should be grateful to live in a place where the authorities don't let their infrastructures crumble like in many other major cities across North-America. Cones are annoying, but they mean that work is being done
Probably the main thing left out is that international tourists can really stretch out their budget. As of writing this comment, 1 USD buys 1.40$ CAD and 1 Euro buys 1.47$ so people can visit a fun friendly and safe city at a cut-rate price. Oh and for Americans, the minimum drinking age is 18, not 21
I’m a Montreal expat living in Mid-Missouri, US, and I cringe whenever I hear Montreal mispronounced. The first time I heard people pronounce the names of places like Versailles, Bonne Femme Creek, Crève Coeur, etc, and then saw the written names, I couldn’t help laughing. Missouri was part of the Louisiana Purchase, so many places have French names, but they are totally massacred by the locals! Lol FYI, they pronounce “Versailles” as “Ver-sails”.
I spent a total of 12 years there, you are visiting the good parts. If you live long term you know what I mean, don’t always judge a place by it’s beautiful cover.
And I still wouldn't live anywhere else. This place has heart (even though its arteries are clogged with medium fat smoked meat and cheese curds from the poutine).
That’s like the majority of places. You live somewhere long enough and you start to see the issues. However the standard of living in Canada has decreased. I still think Montreal has a pretty good quality life in comparison to other cities in Canada such as Toronto. Toronto can be fun, but it’s extremely expensive. Born and raised and I need to leave. If it wasn’t for my parents having a house I would be a goner!
I grew up in Montreal and I agree Montreal’s Notre Dame is outstanding. I was so disappointed with the interior when I visited Notre Dame Paris. Montreal far far superior.
