montrose should have gotten more praise when they first came out... ronnie montrose is up there with some of the greatest to ever do it and quite frankly if it wasnt for him alot of people probably wouldn't have ever came out without his influence
GOD knows WHY we had MANY talks why ronnie and i on why are you struggling man? Ronnie looks at me and says IT'S all about promoting that steve takes LOTS of money rock in PEACE ronnie you taught me so much it was so much a. Dream playing those small venues the most greatist TIMES in my music endovrs
Yes. It appeared on 1973's eponymously titled "Montrose." Same album in which "Bad MOtor Scooter" and "Rock Candy" appeared. To me, this was the band's best album.
Ronnie MONTROSE was the man,Sammy hagar was just a background singer,in 75 an 76,but they blended smoothly together, neither taking the spot light, worked together seamlessly
Eddie Van Halen mentioned in several interviews that one of his music goals was to duplicate Ronnie's monster guitar tone. He came close, and eventually (as we all know) hired Ronnie's first lead singer (Sammy Hagar) as a bonus.
tough call; keith couldn't compete with Sammy for that Montrose sound; just like Sammy couldn't quite take your mind off of DLR's vocals for that VanHalen signature sounds(IMO)
I am an old guy with some decent concert memories.First half of 1974 in Savanah,GA.Spooky Tooth & Humble Pie with some opening act called Montrose.By the time RM dropped his gitfiddle at the end of Jailhouse Rock & filed off stage(That thing was still raising allhell even Once they"d gone) it felt like they"d brought the roof down!!! That crowd still screamed for them even after The Pie came on.A fantastic experience. The jams,my boys,& the biggest revolving reflective disco ball I have ever seen!!!!
This song CRANKS! Ronnie was a master at Power rhythm guitar!. No other guitarist to date has come close to duplicating the sound and feel Montrose executes in this clip. You can't force power strokes like this, one is born with the ability! Ronnie was backbone, he was the substance, and he felt the chops deep inside his soul. What a great guitar player.
Saw Montrose second behind headliner Journey with a then unknown Van Halen as the "warm up" band. This was Lakeland Florida 1978. Montrose had the biggest stack of gear I'd ever seen in my life. Great show.
I saw BOC with UFO the night before that show and always kick my own ass for not seeing that show. But I had a ticket to see Van Halen open for Black Sabbath Halloween of '78, last tour with Ozzy and last tour of Van Halen as an opening band, but we found a couple of bales of pot in the Gulf, and my dad found it and turned me in to the cops, so I missed that show too.
.. i was on island 🏝 ( Oahu ) 14th of age .. Driving Ball with a Very Young Sam .. Really Powerful Material .. Now i play Cause Beautiful Awesome Stuff ❤ .. God Bless All ofYou you
The singer and the other guys do it justice. Good to hear Montrose still cranking it here. "Oh what a time we had. livin' underground." Being a hippie was like, alright! He's here, she's here. Yeah. We were underground.
Ronnie Montrose has to be THE most under-rated guitarist in rock history . this vid sounds great Ronnies just as bad assed as ever !this album is in my top Ten best rock albums ever .with UFO obsessions and other greats.Rock ON RONNIE AND CO.
September '77 Sammy went out on his own, Ronnie did an all instrumental album. Went to San Jose Civic to see him. A little known band called AC/DC opened for him. Great double feature.
Montrose is still the best/first real live Hard Rock band in the US. The musical talent and lyrics are timeless. I'm 60yrs. They were The Who "over the pond " and I love them both James.
Got to see Montrose open for The Who at Madison Square Garden. This means a) I'm old. And b) I got to see Montrose open for The Who at Madison Square Garden.
Fantastic. Montrose 1 as has been pointed out was ahead of its time in many ways. Paved the way for Van Halen 1. Hi energy guitar rock. I first heard it '77/'78. Stands the test of time.. Great stuff................
I was at this show too. Ronnie opening for Y&T. There was deffo some "Good Rockin'" that night. Thanks for posting this brother. The RAZOR KING is gone... LONG LIVE THE KING!!! R.I.P.
Rockin Ronnie still one so underrated and many of us will always remember that he was one of the best pure kickbutt guitar playing songwriting legends of all time never ever forgotten not a day goes by I think I miss the man and wondering what would he be playing his music and so many concert s. Good songs never die! A classic! MONTROSE RULES! This album made me want to ROCK! Ill never forget it. Ronnie has some killer gear here, great tone. Baker guitars and Bogner amps, awesome combination. Go for it Ronnie! The haters will fade and you will go down in history as one of the rocking royalty. Gotta love the T-Shirt he is wearing. THINK!!!
Saw Montrose a couple times in the 70's. I guess I was also witnessing the "Red Rocker." Then there's Ronnie Montrose. 70's musicians could not be beat. Trust me on that!
You fans are awesome - I loved him too. What a gift, yeah? Thanks for leaving awesome comments here on my page - very much appreciated. Montrose fans ROCK!
@jamirosmajicrocks If this is a question then the answer is huge. I was 16 years old when I first heard Ronnie play with Edgar Winter. Then the next year, 1973 the Montrose album was released pioneering American Power Rock. The fan base was big in the US and Europe. Went to numerous concerts with Montrose as the headliner and Journey as one of the opening bands. The unimaginable thing was the tickets were $5.00 and there were always three major bands. RIP Ronnie Montrose.
Much better. Thanks. Believe it or not, shock therapy really did work for me. . . and I can still think clearly. : ) I can also make microwave popcorn with my bare hands!
great song, great guitarist, dave ellefson and jimmy degrasso to boot . i got to see ronnie in GAMMA at old chicago amusement park back in early 80s. R.I.P. ronnie your music will live on.
goddamn this kicks ass !!!!!!!!! back mid 70s montrose montrose album was thee drug 4 me and friends in high school , greatest partying album EVER = PURE LIGHT / ENERGY !!!! great to see ronny & crew still kicking this much ass , might even be a better version here 2008 then olden days . KICK ASS MONTROSE
Completely and totally a ripper for ALL-TIME! I've yet to figure out the damn words to this one but I really don't give a crap. The driving rhythm and smokin' riff propell this like a sweaty horse at full gallop
Saw Montrose in Syracuse NY in the mid-1970s in a club. A band called Wale led off and it was some night. Ronnie looked like he was melded to the guitar. He looks a little more casual now. Absolutely great rock-n-roll.
