I agree that audience reactions would have made this performance even better... But, I think the audience was probably told to keep their enthusiasm under control a bit.
It’s amazing that the sketch that was parodied back in the day, endlessly became a hugely successful Broadway musical. An ode to the comic genius of the original Monty Python troupe
Constantly working leading name since 1999 in Broadway, Off-Broadway, regional NY theatre. Played Patti Lupone! Saw her in 2010 Sondheim on Sondheim & 2022 Beetlejuice, magnificent voice!
I had no idea of leslie's vocals... wooow... I saw her in Beetlejuice and I did not find her quite impressive... well her role was not that big though... but here I can see her huge potential!! Bravo!
I'm not familiar with the revival version. I'm used to the 2005 Sara Ramirez version, which still parodies soul/pop singing but with completely different riffs and runs, so this threw me off trying to sing along. I wonder if that's the permanent version for the show or if this actress Leslie Kritzer did this on her own.
This is what Leslie and the revival’s music director came up with for this production. If you listen to other audios out there you’ll notice her choices are pretty consistent. I imagine if this revival lasts long enough for new actresses to come in that they’ll slightly adjust things to suit them like they did for the replacement casts in the original production.
@@notgoinnowhereseeing that capacity of seats filled went down for spamalot week by week and now lingers around only 60%, I guess we’ll get a closing announcement soon. Especially given its playing such a big house (a 1700 seater), tIcket sales like this are not … ideal.
@@fundifferent1 it’s a collaboration between her and the music director. I wasn’t in the rehearsal room so I don’t know exactly who came up with which idea.
Nowhere close to Sara Ramirez. Kritzer tries way too hard and overdoes it which makes the whole thing not nearly as enjoyable. The only good part of this is the Elphaba riff at the end in my opinion. I was planning on going to see it next week but honestly I think I'd rather let the OBC be the one and only real version.
Yep. That’s how all Broadway mics work. You can’t see it really in a theater. There is a primary mic and a backup in case one goes out tucked under their wigs.
What is that noise she is making? Is that part of the skit? I also find it quite ironic that they would promote Monty Python given the misogyny that it portrayed back in the day.
Same. Definitely not right for her. Maybe if she originated it I'd enjoy it a lot more, but this version of the Lady of the Lake just isn't sitting right with me.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail had it's own play called Spamalot, and boy does it suck. As great and hilarious as the movie was, the play, on the other hand, is dumb and cartoony in all the wrong ways
