it's like he somehow picked up the notion that if he doesnt act as obnoxious as possible then the food won't come. he's making the food arrive by whining and pacing and bumping and jumping and nomming at the air. it's his personal food summoning ritual

I would advise a period where you prepared the food when the cat isn't around. This is not a behaviour you wish to continue to enable. Whilst this will certainly not get you the content, but it's a lot fairer on the cat itself. You do love them, right?

They only started “making content” because of the behavior of their cat, not the other way around. Telling someone they don’t love their cat because they’re FEEDING THEM is such an idiotic take.
