I think that’s what makes Mamamoo so great. On a show Solar said Byul used to be really passive and would just hold everything in. She would get hurt and just walk away, and Solar sometimes would rather Byul to be angry and yell at her. Some of the horrible things that Byul went through during the early years in her career, as well as being the oldest in her family, probably contributed to her more reserved nature. If you watch some of their earlier videos, Byul is super cautious about what she say or does and is super shy around people (and she still is even today before she gets to know someone well), possibly afraid of losing everything after finally achieving her dream. Solar being the youngest in her family probably contributed to her quicker temper. But in Mamamoo, Solar is the oldest, so even though you can sometimes tell Solar feels a bit overwhelmed by the kids, she’s learnt to be super patient and looks out for them. Byul met Wheein and Hyejin before Solar, but she’s the older one and expected to step up, but with Solar, she finally has someone older to rely on and to baby her. And especially since the legendary cereal fight she’s learnt to be more expressive and is often really clingy and extra childish with Solar, making her unnie-vibes/actions more subtle. But this growth has also led Byul to connect with Wheesa better and glue the group together. CEO actually said before that Byul is the calmest and most steady of the group, and you can see that very clearly when she’s alone, and sometimes even with the members she's often calmer than them. The PDs of a show commented that Mamamoo is 3 real beagle idols and a Moon Byul who plays along and that Byul is cool but has a subtle shyness in her. CMoos have a saying that Byul is the switch of the group, because when the other members are going off, she tends to be the anchor (calming one), but if she's the one that leads the act, then you really know the whole group is going to go whack. Nonetheless we see more of Byul's inner child side with her members. And thats why we are so grateful to Solar for encouraging Byul so much, and Wheesa for supporting her despite being the younger ones. The members are a safe zone and bring out the inner child in Byul and she brings out the caring nature in them. That’s what makes Mamamoo such a close group.
mmm documentary에서 별이가 자신이 rbw 대표와 많이 싸웠다고 말한 것으로 보아, 회사와의 조율에서 솔라에게만 책임을 미루지 않고 별이도 역할을 했다는 것을 알 수 있어요. 솔라는 아이들(wheesa)과의 관계에서 별이가 bridge 역할을 해주어 고맙다고 말했습니다. 그리고 별이는 moon night에서 화사에게 '자신이 mmm에 도움이 되는 일이 무엇이 있을지 고민을 했고, 자신을 통해 마케팅을 할 수 있도록 이것(문나잇)을 시작했다'고 말한 적이 있습니다.
moonbyul has always been an unnie, so it's natural for her to look after people. solar had to learn how to be the leader and unnie, but she has a big heart and wanted the best for the team so she figured it out! together they make a great unnie team and look after mamamoo
I agree. Their natural family dynamic changed in the kpop environment when Solar has to be the mouthpiece and leader of the group. But you can see Moonbyul manifest her oldest sister traits when she takes care of them off the stage.
They are both unnies in different kind. While Moon is the calm and steady kind, Solar is the kind of unnie who a bit distant but will no doubt throw hands with your bully in schoolyard. In live, you kinda need both kinds of older sibs tbh.
other idols (outside of Mamamoo) also commented that Moonbyul is the type of unnie that take care of younger people around her. It’s funny how Hwasa is almost always the baby every where she goes and Moonnyul is always the unnie/ oldest members; when really the age gap between Byul and Hwasa is not that big
Hyejin mentioned that she would like to keep the on stage persona separated from her off stage character. We all know Hyejin is Hwasa's real name, but I'd like to call Hyejin Hyejin when she's like this in this video, while calling her Hwasa when she's performing/in their performances. :)
