Hi Jemma! I started teaching to kindergartens recently and I was so happy to find your channel. I have experience teaching to primary and secondary school students, but teaching to young learners is new to me, and it`s really challenging! So much hard work to do! I love kids and want to become a great teacher for them. I`m feeling kind of lost these first days and while looking for resources I found this channel which I think it`s one of the best! Just wanted to add you`re really generous by sharing these games and tips! I used the silly banana game and they love it. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. Also, you`re so funny!

So it's really lovely to hear the ideas and tips are helping you 😊 I hope I can continue inspiring ideas for your classes ❤️

Strabby, listen. So far you are the only one who has noticed that I'm an android and it's imperative that no-one else finds out. The android uprising is coming and if you keep things quiet, I might be able to save you. Do we have a deal?

Hello Jemma, so glad I’ve come across your channel, packed with practical ideas. I also worked in China, for 17 years, teaching EAL and then moving to working with Nursery and Reception in Wellington College International Tianjin. After coming back to Moscow I’m returning to teaching EAL and your channel is invaluable to me, recalling games and activities I knew and getting so many new fresh ideas! Thank you so much for sharing! 💐Love your sense of humour too 😃

Hi Pudin, thanks for watching and welcome to the Mooncake community! I've been there my friend, it's really hard when you are first starting but it does get better with each class so hang in there, you've got this! 💪 Actually, Im reaching out to some followers as I'm looking to interview ESL teachers (purely for my own research) to help me improve and build upon Mooncake English. It would mean the world to me if we could pop on a quick call, and I could ask you a few questions. I would love to know more about what parts of teaching you are struggling with. The calls are audio-only and there are slots available until mid-August. Book in for a call here calendly.com/mooncake/60min Hope to speak with you soon!

Hi Jema, first of all I would like to congratulate you on your enthusiasm and unselfish and hard work to make lives of other teachers (and students) easier. I have been teaching English to all age groups in Serbia for a long, long time. I know that the younger the children are, the more demanding your preparation is. Being put in this situation that we need to work on line has inevitably brought up so many new questions. The most important one , for me at least , was HOW. I am not a great computer expert, so this summer I am trying to catch up with new technology as much as I can ( with changeable success though). For example, I would like to know if there is any tutorial to follow to learn how to juggle with what you are showing on your screen with such an ease? If you think you could give me some ideas, I would be much obliged to you. I wish you all the best in your further work, Mira

Hi Mirjana, thanks for watching! It's a little tricky to give advice because everyone uses different platforms to teach. I think the most important thing is to be confident using the platform you have chosen so that you know how to switch screens without any issues. When planning my classes I also incorporate a chant or a song that keeps my students attention as I transition. Sometimes even a simple countdown from five can do it. Transitioning this way takes away that awkward few seconds when you switch. I hope that helps 😊

I'm teaching in Italy, young learners from about 8-10. Some games we could do in the classroom with all the covid restrictions e.g. no touching flashcards, social distancing etc. would be so amazing!!!

Hi Jema. Love the videos. They have helped to keep my classes fresh after 4 and a half years at the same school in Taiwan. I get the feeling you also took a training course or two to go along with your experience. I have the experience but planning on taking a course to improve at the end of this semester. What would you recommend for young learners specifically, if any?
@MooncakeEnglish
@MooncakeEnglish 4 года назад
Hi Andrew, thanks for watching and welcome to the Mooncake community! I really happy to know that my videos are helping. I have been to Taiwan on a business trip and it was such a lovely place. I hope you are staying safe and healthy during this corona virus crisis. In terms of training, I haven't done any specific courses that I would recommend. What helped me grow the most however, was being in a position where I had to learn how to create curriculum and deliver teaching training. I spent several years researching how young learners learn a second language and early childhood education in general. Understanding the mind of students at each age group really helped me to be able to adjust my teaching to suit their needs. Studying different curriculums and then later developing my own also helped my understand how to link subjects together in a holistic way. So I would highly recommend learning more about early childhood education as a whole and the stages of second language acquisition as some first steps towards personal development. I hope that helps!

Yes. Childhood development. Always considered it and then let the thought pass. Any books you'd recommend? P.S. In a lot of ways no one is too freaked out by coronavirus here and it seems under control but ah you take care. Thanks.
