I managed to get one on launch day in Frankfurt. That's a few hours of my life I'll never get back. Lol. Anyway when I saw it I was disappointed but got it because I waited so long. Anyway, my opinion is it's a toy, it's cheap, it's total trash, it felt like the recycled ceramic and cooking oil it's made from. And.....the big clue that it's rubbish...on the cheap $1 quartz movement, they didn't even bother to line up the seconds hand correctly. It didn't hit even one marker, like something from Ali Express for €5. I couldn't keep it and I couldn't be a scalper for this horrible rubbish. I actually sold mine to an elderly couple who were far back in the line who wanted one for a 10 year old grandson. I felt sorry for them, as they were quite frail and would probably be disappointed when they sold out. Anyway I gave it to them for the exact price I paid. I felt a bit embarrassed that I queued up for it, more embarrassed that I bought it, and even more so that I had to charge more than €250 to the elderly couple for that trash just to get my money back, but I suppose it was a good deed too. I'm glad it will be available online though anyone who buys it will be extremely disappointed and feel they have been ripped off, though most people won't admit to it. My advice, for €250 you can find yourself a really good quality watch so there's no need to waste it on something that should have stayed in the recycling bin.

One day I will buy a 3861 sapphire sandwich, until that day I thought the MoonSwatch Mission to the Moon would fill that gap. Wow, I am so so glad that I was unable to buy one. I got drawn into the hype and was desperate to buy one, however, I was not going to pay over the premium. As these reviews got on RU-vid I realised that I was so lucky that I did not get one. My research then got me onto to the Bulova Lunar Pilot. For $380, about 1.5 times the retail of a MoonSwatch, I have got a fantastic watch made of quality components. I feel sorry for those that paid over the odd for this watch.
The longer I can't get one online, the less interesting it gets. In the meantime since the store release I bought an Oris, and the MoonSwatch enthusiasm inside me is pretty much dead. Swatch waited too long to release it online IMO.
Funnily enough I did the same thing. My excitement for this pushed me in to getting the watch I really wanted, so very happy with my Oris Big Crown Pointer Date.
100% agree. They should have cashed in by opening the orders online the Monday after the launch without the possibility to get a refund. But now thousands won't get it anymore...
Swatches are known for being fashion/disposable watches. So it's just consistent. And the high price point is because of the ties with Omega. But if this was an ordinary chronograph made with this material, it would be in the $150 max.
even $150 for moonswatch is a bit overprice considering what else you can get for that money. I was waiting for moonswatch to become available online, however when I saw them in person I immediately ordered Dan Henry 1964 for the same price, and they are well made watches with the charisma of the same era. Also I was looking at the Pagani Design PD1701 the other day and honestly was impressed that for less than $100 you can have a decent copy of a Speedy with stainless steel case, solid links and end-links bracelet, sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel and seiko meca-quarz movement. For 1/3 of the moonswatch price!!!
@@Nayr747 Know the difference between the brand and the company. I'm not talking about the company ownership and all that. Not all Swatch branded watches carry the Omega brand, except this one. And if they do, it will dilute the Omega and Swatch brands into one. There is a distinction between the brands. So this particular Speedmaster has a lot more pricing power. It's a true collaboration. Not just a name slapped on to the watch, but the design aesthetics and language of Omega were preserved. Bottom line is, if you're broke, then you shouldn't even be buying an Omega. And if you're very rich, then go for the original Speedmaster. The moonswatch is a middle class, mid-range priced watch.
@@Nayr747 As already mentioned you are confusing Swatch with Swatch Group. Swatch as well as Omega as subordinaries of the Swatch Group Ltd but completely independent otherwise.
People are treating this like more like an Omega than a Swatch. It's a Swatch, enjoy it as a Swatch. Just wear it as a fun beater and don't worry about it. I have a reguar Swatch chrono beside me now, they are just cheap plastic fun watches; treat them as such, not as some quasi-Omega.

@@MrLeSa95 Casio also doing great and iconic watches, and usually they are around $20 with the same iconic design (MQ24), for $50 you can get square G-Shock, and for $150 start looking at mechanical timepieces like gorgeous Seiko SNXS79 or Orient Ray/Mako/Bambino.
Thank you for the intelligent and informative review. I went with a used Bulova Lunar Pilot just as you suggested. It's very much a real watch. I think the weight of the Swatch, which I heard was 29 grams, drove home the reality of what was being offered.
Nice Review!!!! I got two, the Moonswatch Missions to the Moon and the Mission to Mars, and I can not be happier. They will companions to my Omega Moonwatch collection that right now has 23 Real Speedmasters ranging from 145.003 with Caliber 321, to the Holy Grail with the Omega Caliber 1045, to regular 861 and 1861 calibers. I also have the Bulova, and three Seiko "Pogue" Chronos. So no, I am not disappointed at all, I am so happy of getting them, after all, I only paid 260.00 USD + taxes each, not those stupid prices people were asking. And what can you expect for just 260 USD? A real Omega? I have been collecting Swatches since the 80's, and they are fun, never comparable to metal brand name watches, and durable. You buy them for the fun, and if you expected more, sorry, you selected the wrong product, or don't know anything about watches.
I like what they did, great for the watch community. I was going to buy one when they became available online, but when I considered the price of $260 for a plastic quartz, I changed my mind after the excitement went away and instead went with a Seiko SARV001 Automatic. It's not sold in my country which makes it interesting, and the quality is great for less than $200 steel automatic.
I was looking forward to buying one of these online at retail (in an obviously not a real Omega color), but I think I might be over it by the time they're finally available. And the non-scratchproof crystal is kind of a bummer.
you can always spray paint the case black , I mean that's what they did , spray paint them LOL, the case is actually white when it comes out of the 3D printer .
The crystal on the genuine Omega Speedy Moon watch is Hesalite (acrylic / plastic) as sapphire will not expand or contract in space, but the plastic will. At least that is correct on the MoonSwatch . . .
Yes, and being a "cheap" watch I don't get why they did not use acrylic. I own an Amphibia that also has acrylic/plqstic crystal and yes, it scratches easily but you can also polish it very effectively with simple, obtainable stuff like Polywatch.
I bought a Speedmaster Pro new in 1989 in Japan. It was cheap (less than $1000 I recall, maybe a little more), when mechanical watches (especially hand-wound watches!) were decidedly un-cool. I loved it for two reasons: First, it was purely a machine. Plus, I was a little kid when they were worn on the moon. Perfect! It's now been my every-day watch for over thirty years. Now all that stuff is very cool again etc and Speedies cost a fortune :). Mine is on its 6th or 7th crystal, there are dings in the bezel, but I'm wearing it now and it still makes me smile. With all that said, I really like the idea of this happy little plastic toy. I'll probably get one in a year ot two whn prices stabilize, just for fun. I think everyone should have the amount of fun and good memories I've had with my old friend the Speedie.
I’m glad this was not released online in mass production when it was launched, I was so hyped I was ready to buy 3 of these watches without question. Now I’m looking at a Hamilton watch for the price of 2 plastic MoonSwatches. It’s a nice concept and idea, I still love it, but I can’t spend $260 on a plastic quartz watch 💀
Yes, I completely agree with what you’re saying! I think its a great piece simply because it gives many a chance to experience the look of a speedy without spending 4,5,6k. It comes in great colours and works as fantastic ‘memorabilia’ as you rightly mentioned. If I see it on someone’s wrist, I will always give them Kudos. It’s a cool swatch. Is it for me? No. Would I buy one? Probably not. But if someone else does and they like it, then great ! (I also feel the same way about the real speedy tbh. Im not a speedy guy, but am always happy seeing other people enjoy their watches).
The easiest way to tell the difference between a Speedmaster and a MoonSwatch is that the Speedmaster owner is not explaining how their watch is a Speedmaster.
@@BraveBeaters it's pretty much officially licenced Omega merchandise, I don't think they intended it to be otherwise. Now, about the crystal, there isn't such thing as a "non polisheable", you just have the wrong compound. I've even polished an Omega vintage crystal with toothpaste and a microfiber. I bet you a real Speedy that I can polish that crystal
I must congratulate Swatch on the huge profit margin they must have on these. The watch costs around $25 and maybe less because they own the movement. So about $300 Canadian profit per watch. People are going to spend $320 Canadian for this, they should buy a Bulova Lunar watch (the other moonwatch) for about $150 more and get a real watch made of metal.
Why congratulate any business or industry that preys upon peoples foolishness? On a person to person basis, we would understand this as predatory behavior and chastise it, but since it's business many seem to say A Okay as long as there is marketing to back it. Garbage behavior is garbage, whether it comes from an industry, a clinical practice or an individual.
This is what I thought, but I didn’t want to rain on anybody’s parade. I could see both sides of the argument. I would buy a G-shock DW-5600 (I actually did) for $67 instead, if I wanted a cheap but real, high quality space-watch that went on actual missions. The plus being, I could throw the G-shock at a cement wall and it would just laugh at me.
Thanks for the honest review! I think I’ll pick one up still just for the heck of it. As much as I love how the original Speedy looks, I don’t really care for chronographs to pay the price for them. Therefore this moonswatch is perfect for me.
want a real quality chronograph that looks absolutely stunning and feels as good as it looks , for around the same price you can buy a Citizen Drive , eco drive chrono, 1,000X better with a power cell that can last up to 30 + years . Don't waste your money on junk,
As soon as I saw this watch in the video I knew the watch shown is the newer quartz version from SWATCH in a plastic like casement which is really not like the original. I would be very sure this watch is a very decent quartz watch being from a reputable manufacture. The original type of mechanical Speedmaster moon watch from Omega costs a fair number of thousands of dollars. Back in 1974, I bought the sapphire version using the 861a movement. I was flying aircraft, and used this watch with the navigation of the aircraft. It is the perfect watch for navigation of aircraft, boats, and most anything that can drive, float, or fly. Back in the 50s when this chronometer came out it was very popular with race car and rally car drivers. I have a number of Omega and other types of mechanical watches. I get them cleaned and adjusted at an authorized Omega service centre every 4 to 5 years. I put in a request at an Omega dealer to have the new released Omega Speedmaster using the coaxial movement. This watch is difficult to have. I am waiting for a number of weeks now. They told me I will eventually have this watch.
i couldnt agree more i purchased it opened the box and sold it for a small loss. But i was happy because i didnt have a cheap watch in my home that i didnt appreciate on quality. I never even removed it from the box!

I would still be interested, not by the Mission to the Moon, but some others such as Mission to the Sun (or to mars) for their bright colours. As a playful toy watch.
I was out of commission on launch day. Initially I was frustrated that I was excluded from being able to get one of these. This review identifies very plainly that this watch is a gimmick. A toy. A souvenir. I appreciate that insight. Now I know to save my money for the real thing instead. Thank You!

My beef with the Moonswatch is the price. At $260, I can get a lot more watch for an extra $100 with the Bulova Lunar Pilot. And now that I know you can't polish out scratches on the crystal, makes it a deal breaker for me.

Nope. You can polish it. It might have taken him to do longer time in the video, but with hand it is normal. With professional Polisher it takes only 10 .seconds. I feel to much hate on this video
Thank you for sharing your honest opinion. To me it looks somehow cool but the plastic casing looks cheap(too cheap for 250 bugs), at least on the photos. But still gonna check it when it’s available. It’s absolutely true, when I for example have my Certina DS on the wrist I feel the quality and weight. Of course it costs almost 4 times a Moon Swatch but still maybe it’s not worth to invest the 250. Let’s see.
I virtually swore never to buy a Swatch again decades ago because of the disappointment I suffered with them in my youth:) I almost forgot and thought I wanted one of these, but I'm awake again.
Love your review on this! Nice to see it up close. More than anything it's a stellar marketing move for me! One thing to note though, I got kinda confused with the color from your blue lighting, I kept thinking if there was a gradient blue and grey colorway haha
I had the chance to buy one in store and laughed at how abysmal it was. If it came in a Christmas cracker than fair enough, but to actually pay money for it is beyond me.
I think that people forget that swatch = omega and omega = swatch. It’s a super iconic watch but omega is controlled by swatch which is why they have to do what they’re told
I had a 26+ watch collection ranging from Rolex to multiple Invictas. On a whim, I bought a Citizen Eco-Drive BL520 titanium/perpetual and added a 26mm brown leather band. The watch looks FANTASTIC, so much so, I sold every single watch I owned except one Invicta Corduba. 1 year on the Eco is even better than I thought
I got my Certina definitely in love with quality and design. BTW thanks to MoonSwatch! got me line up for 15 min in rain with kids just finally announced that we stop the sell ! and thanks again to bring me back to basic from Apple Watch to real beautiful Certina. Also thanks for you watch review. !
It is only a Omega x Swatch reprod watch, so don't treat it as a quality rugged moon watch. If you want authencitic astronaut watch, pay a little more for a Bulova moon watch, or Casio G-shock, instead.
Look, for its retail price point, its either the moonswatch or Dw/MVMT. Id rather spend my money getting all the models of moonswatch than to spend money on even one of the latter. People genuinely over-hyped this (Understandable), but for the price and the omega-insignia, you cant really expect a lot from this watch.
I couldn't agree more with your gift shop analogy. For me, who is not interested in chronographs at all, I'd be happy to pay around 50 bucks or so, considering the materials and movement used. And not because of the history or the brand, but simply because it's a cool design. I like the idea of this cheap speedy copy that is not a replica or some aliex brand, but a "legit" speedmaster. I like how it brought more ppl into the watch community even if it they were mostly driven by hype. However, I would not wait hours on the street to get a hold of this. Especially not for this price. But, again, I think they created something special and even if you could buy a quality Casio for this amount of money, I get why ppl opting for this instead. Seeing the hype, I can easily imagine omega deciding to bring a real, stainless, quartz speedy to the market around the 1000$ mark. I think it would sell very well.

My previous model Omega was sitting in its elaborate box in the closest. Just sitting there. Because of the moonswatch craze, I pulled it outta the closet an purchased the new Moonwatches bracelet separately @ my local Omega boutique an $736 later an Viola. The craze set me off but in a good way !!
Great review. LOL, let alone what you could get from Casio or Citizen..! But, of course that's not the point. It's a cool little trinket that will get people interested in watches and help them understand the Speedy (which I understand proves a barrier to purchase for the mass market). It will also help Swatch, who are suffering. I've got a few Speedies and I'll get one of these for cycling some time - 30g!
My own thought is that lets wait to see how reliable the moonswatch really is. Maybe there is an angle that we are not appreciating at the moment. Maybe a little ecosystem will spring up to supply crystals and some such.
I never understand why people use the term “TOY” for cheap watches? Would you call a super cheap car a toy car? Or an offbrand cheap TV a toy TV? Of corse not. Your using it in a derogatory way to make a point that this watch is not a “real” watch. It comes off as very snobbish.

I seriously do not get all the hate this watch receives. It is just a "homage" to the original speedmaster made by the company which actually owns the brand. The watch is in typical Swatch fashion- it is light, fits well to the wrist and will probably work for a long time ( never had any trouble with Swatch watches). So I can`t understand why some people were expecting a 250 euro watch to be on par with a 6000 euro timepiece.
I’ve been looking at the watch for a couple weeks but wasn’t intending to check every single day if it’s avaliable at the retailer. Rather waiting for luck to stumble upon a delivery. Now I’m not sure because of one important detail you’ve brought up: the sound. I love the sound of mechanical pieces and tolerate quartz watches, but if it’s as loud as classic Swatch, then I’ve got to pass.
You should do a comparison with the Alpha moonswatch with the Seagull ST1903! That's going for 183 bucks now so about 70 bucks cheaper than the Moonswatch!! I would love to see a video on that comparison!!
True, I like the collab and the design. But too many negatives for me to actually spend money on this. A loud watch and easy to scratch plastic glass is a giga turn off.

I have the Mission to the Moon, but honestly the Certina DS Podium Chrono GMT is far superior , but the Moonswatch is the watch of 2022, even though its a toy watch as you so succinctly put it.
The Certina DS Podium chrono GMT is a lot of watch, too underrated. Many Certina chronometer rated chronographs uses essentially same movements as Breitling's Quartz chronographs (also certified chronometers) while being found for a tenth of the price!
The Funny thing is that even the Real Omega or Rolex are overprice watches that have the same materials that any watch from 60 pounds will have so this watch is like a mockery to snobs and the watch industry.
I would save money and buy Pagani Design 1701 speedmaster homage... I don't care what people think of homages, If I like a design and watches like PD-1701 gives me stainless steel case with mineral crystal with solid steel strap then I would never spend over $200 for a plastic quartz watch..
Finally. an honest review❤ ..its a toy..it will scratch like hell..I've had farts that weigh more than this watch..I like to feel some Weight on my wrist

Glass protector for cristal watch? WTF! I have a cheap 200$ Atlantic watch, 10 years on my wrist, it was scratched all over the places and walls, but the cristal its like brand new! I didnt see so strong material in my entire life!
It’s not supposed to be luxury. It’s a genius marketing move. Giving young horology enthusiasts a starting point. This inevitably will put Omega in peoples minds who maybe never even considered this brand for a luxury time piece. Omega flipped Rolex the biggest of birds with this. I love Rolex as well, but their scarcity game is very off putting and frustrating.
It worked on me, I was never really interested about Omega as a brand. This whole MoonSwatch thing made me do some research about Omega and now I'm about to purchase a 38mm Speedy
