8:30 I remember sitting in those exact desks. I was born in Wallaroo and lived in Moonta until i was 13. Was an amazing place to grow up. every year in school, we would walk down to the museum and learn about the history of the Cooper coast. we would do an entire "lesson" in the museum at those desks. if you ever go back.. visit the wetlands across the road from the hospital.. and Port Hughes
@justcruisinwithmicksally837
Cheers, will keep the wetlands in mind. We will be the again during early 2024.

Hi Mick, My wife went to that school and sat at those desks in that room, and lived about 200m from the school. Another great video guy's.
@justcruisinwithmicksally837
Glad you enjoyed the videos, there would be a lot of memories and stories no doubt that could be told.

I grew up in Liverpool UK and remember desks with ink wells but our school must have be posh because we had ab ink well each 😃 which we were responsible for keeping full. I also spent some time in Prospect, Adelaide when a mate I was travelling with worked at the Windmill hotel. Before that we worked a town called Newnan in WA. Really enjoy your videos and thanks for all the memories.
@justcruisinwithmicksally837
I think there would be some great stories to be told that would revolve around the ink wells, something that our kids would possibly not understand.

@@justcruisinwithmicksally837 I can still remember the scrubbing it took to get the ink off my fingers 😀
@justcruisinwithmicksally837
@@Scouse270 we had a lot of accidents with the ink wells, was great when we moved on to lead pencils.

Rippa Mick....Have ancient family members names in mines and schoolhouse. Knew I was of short stature for a reason...Volunteers need commending with the upkeep and safety measures at the old sites...top job by all, and not forgetting Sally and her skill with biscuits and coffee. And drone footage's by yours truly. Thanks again for rekindling old memories. Cheers.
@justcruisinwithmicksally837
Thanks Dennis, where would Australia be if it wasn't for our volunteers. Both tourism and emergency, they are the best.

We have been going over there for decades, including when the kids were little, and stayed in the old cabins that were up on the hill a lot of the time. Sort of a shame to see all of the vegetation gone as there used to be families of blue wrens that would come hop around the cabins when we were having a morning coffee. Also a bit sad to see most of the permanent sites gone as they were part of history and the same with all the modern two story boxes that have been built on the foreshore in both directions cluttering up the views. Progress marches on I guess. I remember in the early days going out on the jetty in the morning and the water was glassed out and you could see everything in the water and on the bottom, it was delightful. Plenty of wind the last few times we have been. The history over that way is great as are the fish and chips at the Port Hughes store. Brings back some memories and hopefully we will get over there again at some point. Thanks for the video.
@justcruisinwithmicksally837
Glad you liked the video. The fish and chips at Port Hughes are to die for👍

Thanks Mick. We went through Moonta a couple of years ago, had a look around but didn't take the train ride. That was a mistake. We will do it next time. Like "watchy" below my great grand parents migrated from Cornwall to work at Moonta mines.
@justcruisinwithmicksally837
There must be so much history there that may relate to more of us than we realize. The train ride was much better than what I thought it was going to be.

Great content. My dads grandparents moved to Moonta from Cornwall and worked in the mines. I have a large album of letters of my great grandfathers. He started rallying for better working conditions for the miners writing to the government back in Adelaide. Unlike telephone and email these days the turn around or reply was generally around 3 months. Moonta cemetery has an extremely large section just for infants. Times were tough and disease was rampant.
@justcruisinwithmicksally837
It would have been a tough life back in the mining days. It sounds like you have some great history to look back on.

We were at Moonta Bay a while ago and it was intersting to see all the new cabins finished, and the site that you were on is now open, enjoyed the mine train trip, that will be on our next visit! Shame bout the weather you had, but never the less its still great to get away.
@justcruisinwithmicksally837
The new cabins certainly would offer great sea views. Was nice to be there when it wasn't very hot as it normally is when we visit during Jan/Feb each year.

Nice to see this old mining site. I used to work in the copper mine in Cobar NSW a very long time ago so this still has all my interest.
