I don't hunt large game any more. I lived in Colorado after USN and raised my family there. I'm in Waikiki now for the last 5 years. I've been fishing all over Colorado and have seen plenty of moose in the secluded parts. The first time I saw a bull I was fishing in a stream which was making noise and he walked right behind me! I froze! Saw my reflection in his eye and his chin was at least 5 feet off the ground! I could smell his strong musky smell. I was shaking this thing was so big and close! I'm not one of those idiots that run over to elk in Estes Park and snap a close up. I have the upmost respect for all fish and game. This guy just caught me off guard and I figured if I ran or moved crazy he could of easily stomped me! Anyway glad you finally got your tag and was able to get one! I got a bad feeling about the wolves coming to Colorado and I think it's a big mistake just so someone can take a picture! These are not Colorado wolves they are Canadian! Wrong species! They are going to ruin big game hunting in Colorado! I give in in less than 20! Get all the big game you can!!!

That was great. Matter of interest, what would you have done if, instead of turning broadside at point-blank, he'd put his head down and come at you through the thick brush? What's plan B? No criticism implied, it just looked pretty scary to me.

And that is how it is done. Modern archery leaves me cold. Modern gun hunting leaves me feeling even worse. So much talk about ballistic coefficients, launching bullets at game over a thousand yards, seeing archers taking 100 yard shots. I do a lot of fly fishing and even used to give lessons. My best tip to a person learning to fish is "you cast with your legs". Its a confusing statement on purpose. Those long dreamy casts are for the movies. Stealthily move to your quarry as close as possible where you can make accurate, easy, casts. Same with hunting. Often, in this sea of new gadgets and technologies for hunting, I find myself laughing and sometimes think, *whats next? You just push a button and the elk explodes?*

You killed a moose, a mountain lion, and bear with a wooden bow and arrow. Did you make the bow? Are you part native american? Is there any footage of that mountain lion cause that would be so bad ass. You're a legend.
