Honestly that’s amazing I’ve never seen a giant moray in a home aquarium. Maybe you could be the first to start a RU-vid channel about care and it’s potential growth. I know tanks look much more appealing but a cheaper option would be a pond with glass windows. Still nice just not as appealing as an actual aquarium. If I were you I’d keep it, it’s just such a rare animal to find in captivity and it would be awesome to keep.

@@fishdiary mate you are in deeper shit that you may believe. The Guy who sold the eels to you is clueless about eels or he lied to you. The tessellata moray eel is the 2nd biggest moray eel after the javanese moray. Javanese moray upto 3.3 meters long and tessellata upto 3 meters long. Tessellata moray also called leopard moray will grow a giant body mass like javanese. You will probably need a tank at least 4 meters by 6 meters. When they reach their maximum size the symbiosis between them will stop and fight each other if your tank is not Big enough because javanicus accepts to live in pair with the opposite sex of the same species but adult tessellata are solitary and very territorial. My advise mate do not sell it. Javanese moray are the most affective moray to human. You can actually hand pet them like a dog. I hand pet one for over 10 years in the wild living in a boat wreck 25 meters deep

Good morning! Happened to catch your video on YT. We have a green moray in a 300g. She has slowed her growth but it sitting at 5’. You have a lot of time to figure it out. We ended up donating our Tesselata to a local aquarium (Sea Life in Mesa, AZ). They also take fish from out of state. Could be an option. Do you still have him?
I saw kidako eels for like 30$? I mean shipping is always like 50+ but i was just about to order a tesselata chainlink and a kidako for my pool pond and the prices are 400+ for tesselata, 200 for chainlink, 30 for kidako
Were they babies? Maybe the previous owner got ripped off then. I paid $300 for the Tesselata and Giant Moray combined so I guess it was a good deal, especially since Giant Morays are not easy to find. He asked if he can have the Giant Moray back after he found out what he was 😉

You are twice in trouble than you thought. The tessellata moray eel also called leopard eel is also a giant eel that grows UP to 3 meters and 3.3 meters. In fact it's the 2nd biggest body mass After the javanese moray eel that you got free with the tessellata moray. To accomodate these two Giants you will need an aquarium at least 9 meters by 4 meters

Do you know if they will reach their full size in captivity? I have heard from a couple of folks who have Green Morays in tanks half the size of mine and they stop growing once they have reached around 5 feet.
@@fishdiary The giant species do not stop growing. If the tank is not big enough they will die instead of stop growing. Non giant species stop growing but giant species keep growing because their jaws get larger than their body size they need to fully develop for their survival because they are apex predators unlike non giant species are not apex predators. In the wild javanese eat from blacktip shark, lionfish, stonefish to small species of eels and fish
I recommend trying a plywood aquarium build mange make a tank 10 foot long 4 foot tall and 4 foot wide that would be about 1,000 gallons that will be perfect

Why would you want to get a Giant Moray? The tank I am about to get for him will cost me well over $10,000 and monthly running cost will be about $300-$400 😒
Don’t be in a hurry. You have time on your side. There are so many people with large tanks out there. You just have to reach them (and vet them). I understand how hard it is. I’m on the east coast and the person I bought my tank from, his friend builds monster acrylic tanks (which is where mine came from). Actually he was moving and having a 15’ tank built in his garage of his new home. Maybe even post on like monster tank forums and look for someone in your area. The other thought I had (which admittedly would be hard) is flip flop your discus into that tank and eels in discus tank? 🤔 I think you’ll find someone, it will just take time.
I was in contact with a company from Utah to build and deliver a 750g tank but unfortunately, they seemed to have flaked on me and I now have to fight to get my deposit back. I would hate to make a swap because the 3D background is pretty much glued permanently to the discus tank and would look weird as a saltwater display. It would definitely be my last resort because even that tank wouldn't be large enough for the Giant moray and I am kind of looking for a permanent solution. I thought about an indoor pond with a see through front panel. They have those on Amazon but a real Aquarium would be much preferred.
Man I will advise you to build a pond at least 7m X 4-5m and 2m deep because both are giants reaching at least 3m. The guy who gave you the javanicus wanted to get rid of his burden because live javanicus are sold to public aquariums only not to private aquariums. My tesselata grew up to 3m in a concrete pond and was only 8 years old. In some years you will be in deep trouble with these two giants. But I will not advise you to give away the javanicus because you are the only luck private to possess a such beauty. If you make a pond you can even dive with them . They aren't aggressive towards human if not disturbed or cornered. You can actually touch them if they recognise your smell. They are very playful
Thanks for the advise! I rescaped the aquarium this past weekend while inside the tank and neither eel tried to attack me. They were scared of me instead. Hopefully, the Tessalata will remain this docile.
Also I forgot to mention the two Giants need to be handled with propre Care because they have toxins in their mouth mucous as well as in the layer of slime that covers their bodies, including a toxin called hemagglutinin that causes red blood cells to clump. Moray eels may also generate crinotoxins, which can destroy red blood cells. These toxins may make you more susceptible to developing infections and could also be the reason moray eel bites are so painful.
Thanks for the info! I only feed them using long feeding sticks and never try to touch them so I should be good unless the toxins get released into the water in the aquarium.
@@fishdiary hhhh don't worry the toxins never leave their body. It doesn't dissolve in the water. You should only be worried about the toxin if they bite you. The toxin will cause severe pain and swell but won't kill you. Touching them the toxin isn't a risk at all. I dive with mine only with a short and it goes all over me feeling the gluey thing on it's body but didn't cause any problem. I have done this for years and no problem at all
