Did you see how it blocked its head with its arm? So smart. As it tried to propulse away It aimed the sand and some ink into the eels face and the eel lost its bearings for a bit. It had enough time to sacrifice its arm and not its head.
Seen multple of these attacks, usually the octopus is dead as often as not, so this guy was smart and lucky. Those eels are amazing hunters, really the wolverines of the reef.
Just goes to show how quickly an eel can eff up your day if it decides it doesn't like you. For the most part they're very docile and hardly a threat but they're also very unpredictable... probably even more so than sharks.
Moray eels seem to be made to eat octopi. They have two sets of jaws to absolutely secure a bite on the octopus, they have the ability to tie themselves into knots for leverage to rip octopus to shreds, they're skinny and long to get into spots where octopus hide. I might be wrong but I feel like eels adapt over time to specifically eat octopus. They must be a huge part of an eels diet.
The way the Yellow Moray surprised the octopus at the corner was terrifying. It’s amazing how the octopus got away like it did a magic trick. I had to watch again because I thought the camera man turned to film another octopus. Awesome video
Octopus is a genius. Quick with the mace and protected it’s head from the criminal assailant. Wise scientists say aliens 👽 are already here in octopus form.
omg, that moray pounced so quickly, the world really is such a dangerous place for wild animals. and the octopus reacted so quickly with a perfect headshot, but was completely useless. freakin crazy stuff going on here.
@Fucker advenit I do find it interesting that the eel ended up turning around the ink cloud, but I don't think it contributed anything because the eel struck at an arm and took it. Even if there were no ink, I don't think the eel intended to kill the octopus, he was just grabbing an arm - as in, it was most likely only going to be able to grab an arm anyway (regardless of his target).
@Dabbing Duck what does moray eel skin have anything to do with this though? skin doesn't have spines to envenomate something, you can only feel effects of toxic skin by eating it.
Octopus. Might even be a Septopus, as that strong tearing bite must have shredded an arm pretty badly. The octopus might even have P.t.s.d. after this, regarding exploring holes & crevices! But guess what? He/she can't afford to back off because holes & crevices are where the FOOD is. Can't help admiring the courage of these simple (complex) creatures...
Octopuses are very intelligent animals. This one inked to create distraction whilst sacrificing one of its arms to escape. They have amazing regenerative abilities so losing an arm is nothing to them, it'll grow back in no time. Truly fascinating creatures.
This film reminds me of when I was a child. There was also a show with a mouse and an elephant. This show still exists today, its name is the show with the mouse. And there was also an octopus, his name was Ferdinand. Does Somebody reminds this show?
