The pole is actually my 1st Spiderbeam 12M. I broke it last year in a stupid accident and the middle 3 sections were fractured. I decided to keep the remaining sections for a future project...and here it is. The pole I use regularly is my 2nd Spiderbeam 12M. I made a contact on 20M around 2300Z with AO75EX in Spain, with a good signal report using a G90 Xiegu at 20W.
My interests vary widely. Right now I'm on an antenna building/testing phase. My goal at this point is to not use the same antenna or configuration twice in a row from my collection of about a dozen. In my opinion, this practice builds a skill set for various deployments and learning 1st hand which antennerator works best for a particular application. Know that I am a long-time electrical engineer and I simply can't help myselt...its in my blood.
The Chameleon Hybrid Micro is a 5:1 broadband transformer with a "binocular" ferrite core. Tests by others have demonstrated about -1.5 dB loss, which is 1/4 of an S-Unit, using the standard Collins 6 dB/S Unit standard. For a 100W signal, that translates to approximately 70 watts emitted, with 30 watts lost to heating of the ferrite core. TANSTAAFL....there ain't no such thing as a free lunch. Note that this loss enables better matching over a broad frequency range if one is willing to accept it. Many have used the Hybrid Micro in its various antenna applications to good success. The Chameleon transformer and its ancillaries have their place in one's antenna toolkit.
I continue to advocate the concept that there is no perfect antenna that works in every situation.
