I agree the table curl is pointless to train for armwrestling. At our club the only dumbbells we have are a pair of 51kg mean looking ones that are too heavy for anything but table curls, which we might try a couple times per year. In this context I view lifting that dumbbell as an absolute feat of strength where something like a one arm pull up would be a relative one. I think a one arm pull up (or weighted 2 arm) is equally pointless to train for armwrestling since the drag strength should surpass all other joints' strengths once you hit some mediocre number of pull ups at average weight, but I still want to achieve it.

Are there any pros and cons when it comes to flop wrist pressing vs the thing hutchings does. Hutchings mentioned that he doesnt press because he is not tall enough/ his forearm is not long enough. I feel like hutchings move is way more effective because it adds back pressure and his wrist isnt going back completely What do you think?

@bobopaleo
@bobopaleo 5 месяцев назад
Levans preacher curls mean absolutely nothing. Start is from upwards holding position and load will increase lower he goes. Meaning it's 0kg on his biceps at start and slowly increasing unitl it's 130kg when parallel to floor. Levan went to like less than half way so pressure wasn't even close to full weight. Jerry actually pulls the dead weight up from close to heaviest position. I bet Levan couldn't pull much more than Jerry from that position. Jerry is very strong there but unfortunately he doesn't need that lift for his arm wrestling at all, making it dumb lift

Hey ! What's your opinion on training posting backpressure on a table without pronation (belt going only through the hand), like Rino Masic does for example ?
@ChrisDrummondAW
@ChrisDrummondAW 5 месяцев назад
It’s fine. I think Rino plays a bit too much with the extra belts and all that but it’s fine for developing that peak elbow flexion strength.
@WooliteMammoth
@WooliteMammoth 5 месяцев назад
Chris, he's doing another stupid exercise where he's got the strap around the thumb as if he's doing a pronation lift, but the strap is at a very shallow angle to his forearm such that it's just basically pulling away. The man doesn't get you have to have rotational moment 90* to your pronation to train the pronator. I think he just thinks if you turn your arm over, it's training pronation. If you put a strap around the thumb, it's training pronation. He's slightly modified it to have a more vertical forearm but it's still far from 90. I think it's just because he can't put up big weights like that.

Well your more body locking it pulling back if you really just use most bicep and extend the arm out without using entire body to pull it up I guarantee this excercise works but I’d say if you lock and hold it on certain angles the static excercise is great fir endurance,of course you won’t feel much weight if your rock it back and forth , I do these with 130 pounds /. 3 inch grip dumbbells at 185 pounds there’s no way I did t get more powerful incorporating this in my training regime .

Thanks for putting this out there Chris. Someone please send this to MMT and Jerry Cadorette, everytime I see those two guys train for armwrestling, I cringe. No wonder they both are so weak fundamentally and had to sort to two of the ugliest moves to save them.

Id have to disagree i developed a healthy stop simply by holding a 100lb bell in that 90 degree position....granted i do it on a preacher not an elbow pad...however you gotta have a decent wrist just to not have it buckle with those types of weight....so to say it does nothing for you is a bit of a reach especially when it takes all types of stabilizing muscles to stop those big bells from rolliing over and seriously hurting your wrist or shoulder.
@ChrisDrummondAW
@ChrisDrummondAW 5 месяцев назад
So doing something different than what I showed has benefits.... yes I did mention doing it on a preacher bench as better and I never said isometric holds were useless but all of a sudden we're not talking about a table curl anymore.
@BigNatorStrength
@BigNatorStrength 5 месяцев назад
@@ChrisDrummondAW I've done it on a table as well just to set the stopping point accurately, but again you did make it seem as if they were worthless and that's simply not true.....maybe not the most effective but definitely still hold some relevance
@ChrisDrummondAW
@ChrisDrummondAW 5 месяцев назад
You’re training yourself to do something you shouldn’t if you do table curls. They’re very inaccurate. Doing curls in general or static holds is not the same thing even if they seem similar on the surface, but I generally don’t advise doing static bicep holds either. You’re practicing resisting a pin in a direction that’s only possible when all your fundamentals are beat and at that point it’s just delaying the inevitable. Yes, you can improve elbow flexion to some degree but that alone does not justify the exercise. There are a hundred better things to do for armwrestling than table curls. If you want to be pedantic about “worthless” vs “very little value” then ok, but on top of having very limited efficacy, they also have drawbacks that can negatively impact your ability on the table in exchange for a small increase in static bicep strength. There’s a reason table curls are one of the few things many armwrestlers used to do but almost nobody who is good does them anymore.

@ChrisDrummondAW 5 месяцев назад
You don’t owe me any respect, but if ranking matters to you, I was ranked 13th on In the Hook in the 242lb left hand class after 4/30/2022. I asked Chance to remove me from the list a month and a half ago after I injured my elbow in an afterpull and decided to take a long break from armwrestling. Puller magazine still has me at 14th but it’s definitely outdated. Me having been a ranked armwrestler or not shouldn’t be the deciding factor for you, though. Either my explanations/arguments make sense on their own merit or they don’t. If they don’t make sense to you or you don’t like them, that’s fine.

Hey Chris, why do I get a very sharp pain in my brachialis when I try to do a tricep press? I don't get this pain when I try to toproll or hook nor if I try to transition to a tricep press after a toproll
@ChrisDrummondAW
@ChrisDrummondAW 5 месяцев назад
Who knows. Brachialis pain is usually just overuse from too much table time. Maybe your technique is bad. Maybe you have too much rotational force on the humerus for your level of conditioning. Maybe it’s just the sheer pressure your forearm exerts on your upper arm when they’re wedged together.

Hi Chris, what's your opinion on Bob Brown's theory of "the two sides of the wrist" like he explains in these two videos? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-npaiwboR8dg.htmlfeature=shared ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x8VJNw18wRM.htmlfeature=shared Basically he is saying dumbbell wrist curls where the angle is changing are for hooking/prevent someone from getting toprolled. And fixed angle wrist curls are for toprolling.
@ChrisDrummondAW
@ChrisDrummondAW 5 месяцев назад
Fixed angle is legit for developing the top flexor but it’s not like you can just say it’s “for toprolling.” Fixed angle results in a shorter ROM. After this point you should continue contracting and allow your wrist to deviate. I think if you’re doing wrist curls correctly you should get complete activation and not have to split it into two exercises.

@@mk5rob42 Results don't necessarily mean competant training. This should be something we as Armwrestlers know because there are plenty of big, strong manual labor workers who never train for Armwrestling who can beat experienced Armwrestlers. Because they beat these experienced Armwrestlers does that mean manual labor is the best, most optimal means of training for Armwrestling? No, it doesn't. I dont agree with you on Table curl exercise, I dont do them. Still, they are not much different than the example you gave as the cable from the front. Not everyone has access to Table + front cable to perform elbow flexor exercises like that. Dont get me wrong I am not really defending the Table curl specifically I am defending that you can train Biceps from that angle using a different varition pretty efficiently for armwrestling purposes. I do Devon laratt style of lift from the ground with supinated grip to target my biceps. Isolation exercises exist, not every exercise should hit your wrist flexors, pronators, riser + biceps at the same time. You acting negative biased towards this exercise just cause you beat someone doing this exercise Is not smart IMO.
