Great video Steve! This one should be delivered to all local and state governments so their planning strategies can be updated. Again, well done. 🙂

Thanks Steve. I agree there is BIG change coming much faster than most think. My wife and I have been debating about buying a Tesla Model Y. We own a Mitsubishi Eclipse only 7 years old. It's in really good condition, low km. But our concern is that its value is going to drop rapidly, cost of fuel etc will rise, so we are taking the plunge now and trading in on a Model Y. We figure that there is little downside to getting an EV sooner rather than later (especially with $6000 incentive here in QLD), especially a Tesla that will only age like a fine wine. Keep up the great videos.

The speaker mentions a cost of 1.5Million AU dollars to demolish a petrol station and remediate the site for unrestricted use. That might correspond to 1.5Million USD, which is a problem because so many of the soon-to-be-closed stations and kwikie marts in the US are not worth 1.1 Million. The businesses will close, let the property go due to tax foreclosure and let the municipalities pay to remediate the sites. If they cities don't have the money to clear the sites, then they will be left to rot and add to the urban blight.

Yeah that’s happening in Australia even though EV’s are in their infancy here. The cost to rehabilitate a gas station site is substantial and they are being left to rot, cheers

Greta video! And I have had a few people tell me that Norway is so small that it cannot be used as an example, but we all know it absolutely can be used as an example of the future of the rest of the world. Every day I see a few more electric vehicles on the streets, and I still say one more electric vehicle I see is one less gas/petrol vehicle on the streets.

The real reason Norway has been able to transform to the EV revolution so quickly is on the back of the huge returns from their oil and gas industry over many years. Most countries don’t have this advantage.

Pity we do not have the charging infrastructure or generating capacity to cope with more electric vehicles. Gotta love all that cheap green energy we have here in Australia. Electric cars are so affordable too, and last so long. Battery replacement is cheap and cost effective and insurers love paying out on damaged electric cars whose batteries have to be replaced after even minor accidents.

Already costs twice as much today to charge a Tesla as it did two years ago. I seriously doubt any of this applies to the US.

Yes it is happening right now in the USA. The first casualties are the old car companies….www.washingtonpost.com/business/2023/03/22/auto-factory-closing-ev/

I have to laugh at some of the comments here. Where I live the number of new EVs I’m seeing on the road is increasing by the week, and there are still hardly any affordable EVS here in Australia. Why would I ignore saving a minimum of $3k a year and buy an ICE vehicle? It’s NUTS! The price for a Model 3 is less than what I would have paid for a new 3 series BMW or C Class Merc. Roof top solar means I’ll never pay more than about $200 per year for fuelling my car, with virtually no maintenance costs. I think the transition will be a lot quicker than horse to ICE in 1910. How long did it take for film cameras to disappear? I think it was about 5 years.

Good for you. The usability of a conventional car is more than $3,000 to me. You are lucky, I can't charge up the car during the day from solar either. I can see if you are a Benz or BMW owner you are bearing extra costs from the start - I am Toyota & Lexus.

@seth_rich
@seth_rich 9 месяцев назад
People don't want to pay more for a car that does less. Getting all of your energy from one company instead of choosing from hundreds of companies is a really dumb idea too for rather obvious reasons. The only way electric will happen is if it is mandated and people will hate you for that.
@stevestesla9120
@stevestesla9120 9 месяцев назад
That’s not what is happening though. Cheap EV’s are about the price of a petrol car now, and no service or fuel costs. Get back to me in a few years time when gas doubles in price and I think you’ll find EV’s just make sense
@seth_rich
@seth_rich 9 месяцев назад
Even you admit it. "About the price of a petrol" means it is higher. And this is after the car companies have raised the prices of a petrol cars to help cover the staggering loses of the electric. Ask Ford how much they lose on every electric vehicle.

So what? We need to win the transition to EV's and renewable energy before china and europe does. It's the same reason analog cameras(Kodak), dvd rentals and taxis are out of business. Who wants unreliable, non-durable and expensive maintenance/repairs of ICE vehicles? ⚡️🇺🇸

This can only happen in an environment of great poverty for the many and electric vehicles for the few. Which may well be the future.

Get real. The uptake on EV’s will plateau soon. In America dealers are awash with unsold EV’s with buyers asking for cars with motors. In California it’s almost impossible to find a charging station that hasn’t got a wait some for hours.

A pretty good representation of what will probably happen I reckon Steve. You could add - less vehicle fires as well (when hybrids disappear that is). NTSB published study: Hybrids 3.5% likelyhood, Petrol 1.5%, EV .025% (that's 60 times less fires than petrol vehicles!)

@americana9692

Yes, a Cuba-like situation is much more likely for the US, even without state intervention. New cars are too expensive and far harder to maintain. Electric cars are mostly a scam in my opinion, which is why there is state prohibition of the sale of new gasoline vehicles in some places. At the end of the day you're substituting one finite resource for another set of finite resources. If it made sense for economic rather than religious reasons it wouldn't require state intervention. For this reason the comparison with the advent of the automobile is nonsense.
@stevestesla9120
@stevestesla9120 8 месяцев назад
Entry level Tesla is now cheaper than average American ICE car, and getting cheaper with no petrol. Hang in there
@Cant_prove_god
@Cant_prove_god 8 месяцев назад
Finite resource??? What are you talking about? I’m charging my EV 90% from the free energy coming from my roof top solar. The sun is an infinite resource, and my battery can be recycled into new batteries and other by products in 20 years at end of life. Nobody is subsidising me, I’m doing EV (Model 3) because it is the most financially effective way for me to own a relatively luxurious car, saving over $3k per year on gas, not counting servicing savings.

The EV fad is dying. Look at Hertz or BYD sales for Jan-Feb 2024. Australians are not buying EVs in large numbers. Used EV prices have totally tanked. It is not that Australia is behind or backward. EVs are just an inferior product that Australians don't want.

Hi Steve, Unfortunately the battery tech just isn't there yet and the raw materials can't keep up. BYD sales fell by 39% since January. Mercedes, GM, Ford, VW and a host of other manufacturers are dumping their EV plans. Biden just pulled back on EV adoption. Various Australian government reports are now citing 27% EV adoption by 2035. Used EV prices are falling at unprecedented rates. So I think we might see 27% EV and hybrid adoption by 2035.
