First time watcher here. Great ideas in this. Your two LED mod was interesting. However, the chip will reset when the two LEDs come on as you have doubled the current consumption (wiring both LEDs in parallel). The battery has an internal resistance and the voltage will droop with the extra load. You're probably on the limit of where the chip will reset which is why it is unstable. If you are really confident with your soldering, you might add a small surface mount resistor in series with both LEDs (one resistor per LED) and wire the LED-and-resistor pairs in parallel. A value of a few tens of ohms should suffice. It will reduce the brightness of the LEDs (you don't need full brightness with two LEDs anyway) and will cut the current consumption to prevent the battery drooping so much.

I tried that for a bit, but it’s just thick enough that no matter where you put it, it either presses too hard on the screen, dislodges components too much, or is too far deep in the watch to effectively communicate with. Someone else could probably find a better way to lodge it in, but through my efforts I couldn’t make it work without anything custom

There really are some channels that can get away with not posting for a while (3-6 month gaps) and i am always happy to wait because i know their busy doing something for us here or getting stuff done so they can do RU-vid. My examples being NileRed, Slomo Guys, and my favourite wait being Project Binky.
