Stephane Richer scored 50 goals twice for Montreal in the 80s.

I thought the same since the draft. That's the pick I am most excited about in my life and the most higher ceiling since Lafleur. I know people were pretty excited back then with Wickenheiser but I was too young to know what was going on. But it's clear no pick I have ever seen the habs made has this much potential from day one

Hearing the name Guy Lafleur might mike someone scoff and claim that its a ridiculous take, but the claim is correct. No one is saying he's going to be as good as Guy. What's being said is this is the best offensive prospect the Habs have had since Guy. Two very different things. The thing is, as much as this is praise for Demidov, it's also a glaring indictment of the Habs draft history in the past how many years?... well lets just say in the modern era and leave it at that.

Glad we got him but everyone should just calm down and let the guy play a full season before comparing the guy to anyone.

Stephane Richer was the last hab to score 50, though he wasn't a first round draft pick (2nd round)

I would agree . Been a Habs since the late 60’s . There has been nobody since Lafleur which is why fans were so upset about the pass on Mishkov . Time will tell of course but Demidov looks pretty impressive and seems up to the challenge .

Carey Price, generational franchise goalie, best of his era

Surprised four teams gave a pass on Demidov before Habs snatched him. Hope all five players do well in the NHL.

I can see the first wave of the Power Play with Caufield and Slaf on wings, Dach as the Bumper, and Hutson and Demidov on the blue line. Back in the 70s, Lafleur was often used on the point during PPs, that was mostly due to his powerful shot, and in the case of Demidov, his hockey IQ at finding the best play possible (same as Hutson).

Yeah...no Demidov since Lafleur for sure. Soon we'll have our own Mc David, Draisaitl, M.Lemieux, The Kid.

Richer, not Shutt, was the last Habs to score 50 goals in a season. As for your question, Mats Naslund was an interesting choice from an offense standpoint

Yes, he is the best player Montreal has drafted since Guy Lafleur

If I’m a player development coach, I make sure Demidov and Hutson become besties asap.

Doesn't always work out having two players of the same style like that. I would say that they could end up with two killer PP's in the next couple of years though, both dangerous

A few corrections or comments: Steve Shutt was not selected in the same draft as Flower but one year later in 1972. Selected after Lafleur in 1971 was a player you are forgetting in terms of talent and greatness: Big Bird. Then how about the best pick by the Habs since Lafleur, a certain goaltender who led the team to two Cups in 86 and 93. The last player to score 50 goal is not Shutt who did it in 76-77. The same season, Flower did it and then he did it 3 more years in a row after that. Then Stephane Richer did it twice since then.
