More Factions, More Fun - Medieval Total War XL Mod 

Want to see some more coverage of Medieval 1 and its mods?

Hi all, it’s nice to see my mod is still being played. I made it back in the day, but I have not played it my self for years.

I remember waiting for Medieval 1 to come out. It was released on 25 August 2002 if I remember correctly. I had a PC gaming magazine with a preview of Medieval Total War. I must have read it a thousand times. I imagined leading the Byzantines to victory. Those days of Medieval 1 Total War were golden. Back in the days of true historical total war, before CA became corrupted.

A Med 1 let's play with a historical commentary would be appreciated. No matter whether modded or vanilla. 💯

Medieval 1 TW was my first Total War games. Impressive introduction. Last year I reinstall and added the XL mod. Played hundreds of hours during the lockdown.

Medieval XL is my favourite mod of them all! Playing as the pagan Lithuanians as a one province minor on very hard was the challenge I was craving for for soo long in a Total War, and only because the AI actually is playing good (on the campaign map). I'd love to see more Medieval 1 on your channel and spread the word, Med 1 is completely underrated these days.

Great video. Would love to hear your thoughts on the BKB Mod. Lots more factions, buildings and units. And like XL there is no peasant horde. More MTW1 content would just hook me 😂 Subbed

I used to play a lot of the XL mod and the BKB super mod for med 1 in the early 2000s, good times good times

Shame that the Swiss got cut off, especially when the event of their emergence is still there. Great mod regardless, played through 5 campaigns already and didn't know about hospitallers being added so I'll definitely check them out.

I have been playing the original total war since the day it's released. Still have 3 or 4 saved games waiting for me to continue. I love this game and want to keep playing forever but it has became kind of repetitive most of the times because i played with every single faction with many different scenarios that i imagined in my mind. I was so desperate to find a new idea that i have been missing to make me start a new campaign and be thrilled about it. And today i found this video, i found you. Great video, great introduction to the mod. Keep the content going my man. Btw you may thing like, where have you been all those years where there are many mods are around? x) I was kinda stubborn to change the vanilla to something else, like you said it is so beautiful and adequate, but this XL is exactly what i have been looking for. Anyway, looking forward to see upcoming total war gold edition videos.

Can you check out the hellenic tw mod for med1 I can't get it running and I've only seen one screen shot for the whole mod. It looks very well done.

Gudea... Out of curiosity, is there a composite/compound bow type in this mod for eastern factions archer units as muslim, mongols and byzantines? or are there just shortbow?

Could you make a video where you list all the changes and improvements you would like to see in a remastered version of this game?

This is a great game, I keep returning to it. I could never get down with the other TW games, but this one feels right to me. I just wish things such as assassination outcome rolls were done better, the game gets really stubborn. And I'd like there to be a more fleshed out goal list for added factions in the XL mod for the glorious achievements playthroughs, as it gets stale to have to rush province capture when all I wanna do is hold the Balkans and make it a trading empire. :)

This menu update is genius; to make more factions trough different time periodes. A way around hardcode

In med 1 remastered this mod will be the first to be ported for sure!

Do you run Medieval I on a modern system or on some older system that you have by the side? Any issues with running it?

How did you get this to work. I've downloaded it, but the game starts in vanilla. Am I missing something?

There was someone that played with XL + BKB together but I don't know if they actually work perfectly even late game.

Does this work on the steam version. I just noticed that i hit 1322 hour on this game today, that's more than 55 day's

Control system on campaign map is probably what has aged the worst... But, adjusting that (drag and drop is quite unusual in modern pc games), and possibly increasing the province number, a remastered or an HD version of Med1 could be a worth title even for today young players. Keeping sprites (instead of 3D models) for units isn't a problem: they are quite frequently used in strategy games still nowadays :)

Yeah, the download link from the page just seems to be down. Not surprising for a mod from 2007.

Looks like a good mod, but 2 mistakes I have noticed: They got the wrong Bulgarian Emperor in 1321, should be Theodor Svetoslav who ruled from 1300 to 1322 and is for me the most underrated Bulgarian ruler. They have Boril instead who was one of the worst and he ruled from 1207-1218. Bulgaria in high era should be bigger as well

I was playing Medieval just recently. Got near the end and got kinda frustrated with the constant rebellions public order issues and flatlining economy they give you at the end. But overall still the great game I remember. You ever tried the Samurai Warlords mod? I'd be interested to see how it compares to shogun 1.
