A reverse trike powered by a 140cc motorbike engine. Very much a work in progress, but a blast nonetheless! This started off as a commuter-vehicle concept, but it's too loud and frankly too much fun!!

Hi I have just come across you video. I am building one which is very similar we seem to have the same ideas. Mine has a gx160 Honda linked to a Villiers 4 speed sequential gear box and an articulating front axle. My problem is the way the axle pivots make the cart feel wobbly. Dose your axle just pivot around a centre point or is it free to move up and down.

The front axle on my trike is located laterally by a panhard bar, so the point about which it can pivot is offset somewhat to one side, but indeed the axle can pivot relative to the body. Interestingly, I have observed a very similar problem to what you describe, whereby the trike pivots roll-wise about the single rear tyre, while the front suspension permits the front wheels to stay on the ground. What arrangement of front suspension are you using?

@@KiranDigavalli cycle kart project #4 this is a video of my cart early on in the build. Originally I had two standard motorbike shocks but it didn't work. What happened was when the body leaned over it didn't come back to centre like I thought it would. As one spring compressed the opposite spring extended but the damping effect overcame the difference in the spring pressure. I then removed the dampers inside and made a pair of sliders ( in effect just like the dampers but without any damping ) But this made it very wobbly. I think I have today overcome the problem. I have made a couple of spring compressors that preload the spring and stop them extending but they can compress so when the body leans say to the left the left spring compresses but the right spring doesn't extend and visa versa. It now returns back to centre and the spring pressure is much greater. I will try it this week.

see cyclecart project#5 its a better video of the first suspension set up it still looks like this but with no dampers inside.

@@derekevans8266 Very interesting setup! It seems as though your front axle pivots about the longitudinal axis, but as a whole does not move up or down. Perhaps if you revised the suspension to give the axle one more degree of freedom (up and down movement), but added a torsion beam or something to reduce roll, it might be less wobbly. The issue we face with building simple suspension for trikes is that we naturally turn to suspension geometry designed for 4-wheeled vehicles, which does not always work with 3.

Do you have plans available for sale. And what gear box did you use.

The gearbox is integrated into the engine's crankcase, like most motorcycle gearboxes. It is a 4-speed sequential box with dog engagement, and a wet clutch (bathed in engine oil). The engine/gearbox combo is intended for use in a dirt bike, and is similar to those made by Lifan. Unfortunately, I do not have plans available for the trike, but would be happy to answer any other questions regarding specifications.
