I just spent £1400 on a set of mizuno 225 pro my dad bought the JPX forged. I wish I bought the JPX now although I’m still happy with the 225s

Great review Mark, the HL of course is aimed at players with a slower swing speed sub 70 which will be more forgiving but probably offering more distance and a greater descent angle.

I went recently to test these as I had heard good things about them and fell in love with the Pro version, I hit the standard and Pro very similarly but I also liked the look and feel of the Pro's a little better. For the price, I don't know that you can find a better value and all around they are spectacular clubs. I am pretty sure I will be going in for a fitting soon for a set of these. Great clubs Mizuno and great review Mark!

After 8 year absence from golf I bought the 923 HM G thru 5 iron last fall. Last week playing in our league game I got closest to the pin on all 3 par threes. I think they are great irons and winning the pot on all of the par threes raised some eyebrows here. 😂

I gamed JPX 850 Forged for about 4 or 5 years. Loved them. Looked good, not terribly chunky, but felt good, and could definitely shape them. Replaced with MP20 MMC 5i-PW and 4i HMB. I liked the slimmer profile of the MMC, style/looks, better feel, and some forgiveness (more than the 921 Tour). I’m confused on the new MP 223. To me it’s the same as JPX forged and doesn’t make sense. Very progressively chunky heads, PW an d 9 look nice, 8 is OK, but 7i looks and feels like the JPX forged. I don’t like that they’ve done that to the mid-line MP model and hope that in the next MP release it goes back to a more less progressive player CB style. If I want some more chunk I’ll mix with JPX around the 5 or 4i. I liked the JPX Tour, but to me, the MP20 MMC were a bit more forgiving, enough for my preference, and still had a nice compact look

I’m scratching my head - the HL version seem to do it all. If you can get over the looks … why wouldn’t you take more spin, way more forgiveness, better launch, and a better landing angle … all without adding the crazy distance that has always been the gripe about game improvement irons. The HL version seems to me could be gamed by absolutely anyone who is willing to check their ego at the door.

I have the old JPX 800 HD irons which so far nothing has been able to replace. Looks like the new 923 HL may be just right with decent lofts and offset for a 12 HC, moderate swing speed player like myself. These will be on my shortlist for the next upgrades.

Came across some used JPX 921's last year split set 4-6 regular hot metal 7-gw hot metal pro last year end of the season. Have really enjoyed them this year, feel and sound amazing. If i were to get another set it would probably be from the JPX line as well. The MP223's looked interesting to me this year but these I'd probably go with if i were to get new ones.

I've tried and liked the JPX tour of multiple previous generations and they are nice... I still feel that they're a bit chubby (the JPX "forged" are at my absolute limit of acceptable chubbiness) and that in the Mizu range only the pure blades have the offset and topline that suit my eyes. They generally feel great (the MP blades and CB, that is) and are forgiving enough. JPX other than tour are really frightening me with my fault being too high a ball flight and a left leaning sort of trajectory. So, no, I don't think I'll bag a JPX hotmetal of any sort anytime soon, a JPX tour, maybe. I understand the appeal of "help" in long clubs for people making their money hitting balls, but to me, looks and feel and learning trump all that and the most "helping" club I'm ready to go to as an "amateur" (in the truest sense of the word) is something like a Titelist CB. I mean what if I do loose a few yards on misshits? I don't depend on that for my food. However, the enjoyment of a pured blade or "tour CB" forged in soft 1020 steel that you shape "just right", that's something with no price and that I come back to the course for! Maybe my index will be 1 or 2 higher than what it could, then again, maybe not... I'll train more if bad hits are feeling real bad and good hits are feeling heavenly!

The High Launch have 3* weaker lofts than the other two! So comparing the 5-iron HL against the 4-iron of the other two is giving you a 6* difference between lines. The HL should be much shorter.

Not me. You might think that I’m full of beans but I’ve tried every kind of helping club and I just don’t see the benefits of it. I play mp20 with a shaft that’s perfect for me and it just feels right and performs right. Had enough of all the bulky look and bad feel with minimal shaping ability. Simple as that. Playing blades till I can’t any more. Now woods, that’s a different story. One more thing that you also might not believe but it’s true, I hit the blades more accurate and further than anything else, even when the lofts are juiced up a bit.

I have gamed the 919 Hot Metals, 6-PW, for a couple of years and love them! I weakened the lofts 2* and still get more than enough distance for the courses I play. The 919s impressed me so much, in fact, that I recently tested and bought some 921 forged irons, 6-PW, to put in the bag for next season. I love that I haven't lost distance moving to forged, but instead gained more of the feel Mizuno is known for. The feel is definitely different than the hot, purposeful feel of the Hot Metals. Despite the new addition, I'll just be moving my 919s to my travel bag where they'll still get plenty of use. Who knows, maybe I'll even test the 923s at some point to see if they're worth picking up before the 925s are released. For now, I'm more than happy with my 919s and 921s! Mizuno for the win! Cheers Mark 🍻

Was just fitted into the 923 Hot Metal HL. I was a bit surprised, given my swing speed isn't too slow (mid-90s), but I tend to deliver the club pretty steeply/taking loft off. The HLs popped the ball up into the flight I'm looking for without sacrificing distance. Paired them with a stiff flex shaft, and I gained 20 yds on my gamers, while maintaining steep descent angles for stopping power. And the feel is, well, like a Mizuno. Great clubs.

@delhump22 11 месяцев назад
@seanarmao7385 a little on the "clicky"/loud side, but that's sort of to be expected I guess, with a game improvement club like that. But the feel is great. My tendency is to be toe-side with my misses, and a lot of times I'll hot a toe-y shot and have to double check the club face to make sure it wasn't out the middle. Very forgiving.

I really enjoy how you judge products using statistics, along with looks, feel, and sound. Since all of the big companies have such high price tags on their equipment, I think many would be most interested in seeing you test Takomo 101 irons. They are half the price since they don’t have major advertising nor tour pros on their staff. But James Robinson judged them to be the second best set of game improvement irons for 2022. Would love to see your test of them and hear your opinion.

Interesting how numbers on clubs don’t relate to loft anymore, the PW is now a 9i and so on. It seems manufacturers are miss numbering to delude folk they can strike a certain club, the 4i at 19° is in fact an old skool 2i. I could work with my MP20 HMB’s getting 2° stronger but when I tried MP225’s the 8i actually being a 7i just left a gap at the bottom of my bag. Horses for courses I guess. I’m not convinced iron technology advances are anymore than loft flattening.

Good review. I game over model JPX800 Pro Forged that are more traditional lofted irons. Today I was able to try the new JPX923 Hot Metal Pro’s and also the 225’s which as less strong but more like a blade. The JPX923 Hot Metal HL’s were good built liked the Pro’s as you stated they just look better and the gain in distance will definitely help my game. During the test I also found out that my current gamers would be better if the lis angle was adjusted due to my change in swing path which has improved. I expect 2023 but be a better year with my game with a new set soon.

Very interesting that Mizuno has left the "jacked loft-race" with the HM HL. That line has higher loft and more spin than the regular HM. I would be afraid of the offset, but otherwise it would probably be the best club for me (inconsistent strike, but high clubhead speed)

Really interesting - I’ve been gaming P790’s for a couple of years (10hc) and just feel I need help in the 5,6 and 7 iron

I'm testing irons right now - my Mp59s are 9 years old now, its time. It took me a while to get over myself - I have played pro/forged irons for 15 years and I swore I would never go back, but I am finding the gap between the "feel" of a forged/player iron, and the forgiveness of a game improvement iron is starting to shrink with all this new tech. Forged irons are more forgiving than ever, and game improvement are offering better feel than ever. If you're looking, I'd strongly suggest just allowing a fitter to hand you anything and everything - no biases. I play off a 7.7 index right now, my mid iron striking has always been a strength in my game so I am pretty detailed about what I am looking for...but I would not be surprised at all if my next set ends up in the cavity back/game improvement class.

I needed to replace most of my bag last year as my youngest club date to 2006. Mizuno was definitely NOT on my radar...like at all. But i trusted my fitter and after hitting nearly everything in the shop, She made a suggestion that changed my perception of feel forever. I now game the jpx 921 pro irons. I absolutely love them. Look, sound, feel..all yes please. I have mine all 1degree weak which gives me predictable distances within my comfort zone. I struggle when lofts get too strong because I begin chasing distance which is totally a me problem. I also got fitted this year into D, and fairway woods. I tested most brands including my personal favorite Cobra and Callaway. I actually tried to convince myself into one or the other because they are what I have long played at the top of my bag. Mizuno STz 220 in D and 3w are what I put in. I was shocked...but now I would not be without them. Looks, feel, consitant performance. I have become a fan. Good luck getting my Calloway 7w out of my bag though...been with me since 06. Almost as long as I have played Srixon balls...(zstar currently in tour yellow) I am not the biggest fan of change obviously. Yes, buy them. Yes blend them. Just put them in your bag. Don't sleep on their Drivers or anything else Mizuno. They are everything you will want top to bottom.

Tested the range earlier this month. Not that different looks wise to the 921's tbh. I've 5 year old MP18 set of blade/SC mixed and have ordered the JPX 923's Forged 6-PW to replace them. The difference in feel between my clubs and these is not that much tbh, need a bit of help as getting older, and their distance variation was good. Plus look great 👍 Delivery mid-October, (not standard).

Bill Tobin- Getting the ‘HL’s” soon. Glad to see Mizuno have irons with with lofts that I played back in the day. I am 78 years and my club speed is not what it was. Thanks Mizuno for providing us with Irons that are not so strong lofted.

I have always liked the JPX line, personally I bought the MP-18's (and love them to death), but I would have been fine with the JPX line. I still use the old JPX Hybrid to be honest, I have tried to get it out of my bag but I just can't. Old Blue is probably going to have to snap before it is replaced. I think my next set of irons though are probably not going to be blades, not because I can't play them, but just more wanting to take advantage of all this tech that is just quite frankly not in an MB.

I feel like at some point I have to get a set of mizuno. I played around with the hot metal pro 921 at GOLFTEC. They were almost too long. Was getting 195 with my 7i. At the time that was ten yards longer than my srixon 585. Felt like I could 200 carry out of the HMP if I went after it a bit.

You misinterpreted the JPX range of clubs. These 3 are the cast iron Hot Metals (HL, std and PRO). There's then the JPX Forged and the JPX Tour which are more compact (in that order) and, well, forged.

I play MP15s and they are in no fear of coming out the bag anytime soon, Mizuno have made some very forgiving irons in a "better" player looking iron, mp59 and jpx 850 are both great examples, even the MP 5 was forgiving for a blade
