Funny thing is as a kid i used to always have my arms crossed because It made me comfortable but I stopped because the teacher bullied me about it infront the whole 2nd grade
Vala doesn't like to sit still for a prolonged amount of time. It's not problematic, she just has the urge to get up and walk or stand for no purpose other than to do it. If she ever had to stay at a hospital for some reason, she'd hate being stuck in that bed and insist that she was fine so she could leave quicker. This is because she has gotten so used to always being on the move, always standing and traveling to new places, that it now feels weird to just be idle. She also tends to cross her arms when in casual conversations with good acquaintances. It isn't anything negative, actually she is at ease and her hands are away from her weapons. It's a subconscious action to those she feels comfortable around.
Marble always adjusts her uniform collar. She moves a lot, so she always has to fix it in order for her to be seen as “perfect.” She always wants to look good in honor of the Peacocks (the royal family), especially Princess Iris, therefore resulting in her wanting her collar to be perfect. She constantly has her arms crossed, and while some of the other guards might think this is because she “has an attitude,” it’s actually a very different reason. Her weapons (daggers) for her job as a royal guard are hidden in little slits on her sides ( underneath her armpits (they’re not uncomfortable or anything)), so it’s instinct that when she’s annoyed, she crosses her arms for a better reach of her daggers, *if* what’s annoying her is a threat. (PS: She cut the little slits out, herself. Originally, it broke the uniform, but the Princess sewed it back together for her so that Marble wouldn’t get in trouble)
How characters treat their own scars can convey a lot. I have a character who always touches a burn scar on his neck whenever he’s fearing condemnation, and he’s not even really aware that he does so; it’s a subconscious action. Even if nobody knows how he got the scar or who gave it to him, it’ll still create intrigue because he mostly just forgets the scar exists the rest of the time. In contrast, whenever this same character is trying to convince someone who’s distressed that he’s on their side, he willfully shows them the scars around his wrists leftover from his own history of powerlessness. The candidness and lack of shame about his past can also create intrigue, especially when compared to how he treats the burn scar. It’s also no mystery to anyone in-story how he got the wrist scarring, he’s very open about it. But it takes a very specific kind of pressure to get him to draw attention to the burn scar in conversation, and he still doesn’t realize that he touches it when he’s worried people will denounce him.
That reminded me of some quirks I have! I'll put them here so it's convenient for you all! Feel free to use these for any of your characters, I don't mind ^^ ▪︎When I'm pacing back and forth, it's almost always because I'm daydreaming. Rarely do I do it out of stress. I just like escaping into my mind, it's fun :) ▪︎I used to have these dangle earrings which each held a rhinestone in two outer loops. One had a loose emerald. I always would fidget with that one, spinning/rotating the gem in its place. ▪︎As you can see already, I talk too much! Whoo! I try and keep things concise, but I can't help but let my mind wander on the paper or keyboard. ▪︎My vocabulary ranges from words like "concise" and "pretentious" to "golly" and "the lil sploinky doinkster." Save for a few cuss words, eheh;; ▪︎In general, I tend toward picking at things. Instead of squeezing a filled fidget ball, I'll shift around what's inside. As wonderfully soft as a plush may be, touching fabrics gets boring and I may be inclined to stick a thin ear cut from felt or the sides of a hard button under my fingernails (idk lol.) I do also have a bad habit of picking at my skin, due to lack of alternatives... Welp, that's all I can think of for now! I might share more under other videos ^^ Take care ~
I have an old rp character who's nervous tell was fiddling with the edge of her sleeves. Another paced to get out agitation, a habit that I gave them from myself. It's always so interesting to watch things like this and think of your own characters traits
One of my characters named Aida, she ALWAYS is in a bad mood and crosses her shoulders. But one of them she does is chews bubblegum all the time, you should do that one!

My first character in my first ARPG, has a habit of crossing her arms a lot. Funfact: one of the most common reasons for why a person is always crossing their arms, is because they are un/consciously putting up a shield between themself and whatever’s around them. A protective barrier in which to feel safe and secure.
One of my characters is a spaceship mechanic. She always has the habit of using certain tools for something different than their intended purpose (using the back of a screwdriver as a hammer, flathead screwdriver on a Phillips screw, etc.)
I have a character who does the arms crossed thing, and most the other characters think he's mad all the time, but really, he just has no idea what to do with his hands.
Oh, you mean these kinds of habits. I just read the title "more ideas to make your characters unique" and thought there was gonna have some cool lore ideas, not habits or quirks. But i'll keep these in mind if needed.

One my quirks I had since I was a kid was whenever I would go to wipe my nose I’d say, “my nose” really quickly. I think It was when my uncle use to do the “got your nose” pranks on me that started it 😭
