I am a 81 year old woman and had 2 of these radioactive iodine treatments 50 years ago and never felt well since, i was not told to distance myself from anything or anyone when i took these treatments ..i have been on thyroid meds for many years , just never felt normal since . weight is good, and many tell me i look very young for my age .. i have alot more to tell about my experience,but it would take too long . good luck to all who take this treatment ..

When you're finished watching this cosy version of what happens, you might like to watch 'My Experience with Radiation Iodine' to listen to a patient's account of it. Not quite as cosy.

How do you feel now? Are you OK?
@hind366
@hind366 2 года назад
@@Marguerite-wu3nw yeah! Actually almost no side effect.. I had a swollen thyroid and felt tired a bit after a couple of days (but that’s possibly because I had to stop taking the PTU tablets until everything is regulated) I also had a small lump at the back side of my neck that almost disappeared now. The hardest part was to stay totally separate from my dog and partner especially for the first three days, you must! and follow the hygiene clean! Now I must have a blood test every 3/4 weeks followed by a doctor appointment so he can evaluate the thyroid hormones level. There are two scenarios.. if the hormones regulate then I might not have to take anything anymore.. if they don’t that means I get hypothyroidism and have to take a synthetic hormone tablet for the rest of my life ( but this tablet is much safer to take than PTU).. good luck everyone ❤️ oh by the way the official British healthcare system nhs says there is no evidence people who take radioactive iodine are more likely to get cancer. There is no proven link in their research.

@kimberlywaller3058

It’s not the radioactive part that you should have been speaking about!! You should give informed consent. Tell people what their lives will become after getting this done. OMG!!!!

radiation poison kills more than it helps. KEEP IT AWAY FAR AWAY.

As a nuclear engineer who has studied the impact of radiation on the body I can say this has a minimal impact on your body. X rays emitted don’t ionize many cells in the body and mostly stream through, unlike alpha or beta radiation.

I can't believe, she says, that it's easy to treat an underactive thyroid!! Either she has never had to treat patients with low metabolism, or she only looks at the TSH and doesn't listen to patients, when they say, that they still feel miserable. It makes me SO angry, when I hear people say, that it is easy to treat an underactive thyroid!

I have graves disease, and yes I have my left eye damage from it. All I have to say is do your research, don't believe everything the doctors say. Trust ur body like I did, I had a total thyroidectomy done cause I did my research yes I have to have a pill once a day rest of my life but I was really bad I had thyroid toxicity which the scans or blood tests never picked up til the surgeon opened me up. I knew I wasn't well and barley could do anything I felt like I was on my death bed, but my doctor didn't believe me then he saw my reports after my surgery and we'll I've never heard any apologize so fast after. DO YOUR RESEARCH N DO WHAT U WANT NOT DOCTORS

I had this done and I was given a very high dosage to the point it completely destroyed all of my thyroid gland and i am permantly hypO thyroid and replacement hormones don't make me feel as well as i did with my natural hormones. I have hypothyroid symtoms that have never left me. it's HELL!
@machomanic1768

Heard for most people it kills the thyroid. You may have to adjust the hormone levels.

Do you research, my specialist told me I needed it cause my levels were so high and medication wasn't working for my graves disease and hyperthyroidism, but it would have just made me worse. Talk to the doctors, ask questions before making a choice, there are options best option for graves disease is surgery and I've heard alot of horrible stories. I had a total thyroidectomy 2 mnths ago and I feel like I did when I was a teenage I don't feel like I'm dying inside anymore.
