RU-vid brings me back to this. One of my favorites. I have hillsides. A ravine is inaccessible except by a fourwheeler on the edge of my property. Someday I want to get a tractor down there. So I study this art of hillside road cutting...
Well Ben I have been watching some of your older videos and I really do enjoy them (I love seeing the snow flurries by the way) I have told several of my friends here in Georgia about your channel , keep up the good work
We always welded short pieces of pipe to the tractor wheels around the valve stems to protect them. It works great. Be carful not to burn through thin wheels. I did that once but I just filled the hole back up with weld and it never leaked (front tire no fluid using 1/8" 6011`s 6013`s or mig woulda been better ). Big suprise when the air blew out the hole in the rim though.
Great video! I used to own property out there near you in Tazewell county, toward the WV line. I miss being in those mountains...so pretty when it snows and great weather to work in! I'm getting ready to do similar work where I bought a place in central WV this coming winter...cant wait to get started. Keep up the good work brother!
U are doing a heck of a job sir.i watch guys with all kinds of equipment on the job site and make it look hard. And then here u come along with a tractor. Then the advertising was construction company with kabota equipment
This was a fun job! I’m actually going to be starting another road build possibly tomorrow to get out a huge oak that fell. It will be a down hill push which will help. Thanks for watching
Sick video man! im getting ready to cut in parking up behind my house and use the fill to make a wrap around driveway the rest of the way! super stoked
Very impressed with that 6060! I've got a 4600 and I've been trying to straighten my parents lane and having a rough go of it. I'm in PA and it's a lot of heavy shale. Dad's got an IH 150 crawler loader but I've never ran it. Will probably use that to loosen up the shale then Kubota to finish. It's a steep grade on a curve.
I actually ended up going on up the hill to a place that levels off some. This video series is three parts. Look under the Kubota M6060 playlist on my home page and you can find them easy. Thanks
If it’s like this one you’ll like it! Just be careful if your pushing backwards about catching a root or stump on the corner of the blade. I did bent the main tubing coming from the hitch to the blade a little one time. Thanks for watching!
Dang, doing that with a tractor and a front loader...not bad at all....I was thinking your tires would sink because they are so thin, but you got it done!
I love the hydraulic shuttle. You still get the positive power of a gear drive transmission with the ease of switching from forward to reverse like a hydrostatic.
I had actually started it a few years earlier before doing RU-vid and only went 30’ or so. I came in from an existing road so the tractor was pretty much level to get it started. Thanks
Thanks 👍. I've got an old established road in steep valley that needs some TLC but I'm scared to go down there with my jd 2038. What is that rear blade? It does a nice job.
The rear blade is a C H E it’s built very well. I’ll tell I’ve had my Dad’s John Deere 770 is some rough places in my younger days. Those small tractors will surprise you, but don’t do anything your overly uncomfortable with. Thanks for watching!
GOD bless you sir. Hope you're reaching them thar goals for your channel. Keep up the good works. DLH farms does good vids maybe learn a few tricks from him?
Fantastic! I have a couple of questions if you have the time! 1. How steep was the general mountain which you were working on? Our mountain that we are planning works on is about 30 to 35 degrees from horizontal, difficult to walk on. Yours seems to be about maybe 20 degrees? 2. What is the road gradient of this section which you are building? We are trying to have a very steep 1:4 gradient for our 100m long road but are worried about constructability. All the best, Aleks
The beginning of this road section which you see in the thumbnail is probably around 30. As you progress on around the hill it gets significantly steeper, not sure the angle without checking. I was able the keep the slope of the actually road at a mild grade until I got right to the end. Basically I went perfectly horizontal around a good part of it. Planning to do an update video on this road in the near future. Thanks
I just happened to come across and subscribed. I have been looking into getting a tractor or a skidsteer for doing mainly this type of work. I have 30 acres in Kentucky and most of it is steep hill side it was logged about 20 years ago. Most the old log roads are in decent shape ive cleared alot of the brush with a blade on my weedeater. but a couple of the roads have ruts some big enough i can stand in i just built a new trail around them and use my fourwheeler with no problem. If you had to choose on equipment would you opt for a skidsteer or stick with a tractor on the steep terrain.
For me a tractor for sure. You can get a good size tractor for about half the money of a skid steer. Plus you have the option of multiple attachments in front as well as 3 point attachments. But you’re not going to do this type aggressive digging with anything less than a 55 horsepower utility tractor. Skid steers are nice and you may prefer one. But I’m just answering your question based on my experiences. I’ve also operated tractors for 28 years and only spent maybe 30 hours on a skid steer.
Looking to get a M5660 and curious what RPM you suggest running with this type of work? Anything I can learn to shorten the learning curve, I’ll take!!
In this type work I run 1,500-1,800 rpm’s. No need to run wide open but with the particulate filter you need rpm’s to keep the egt’s up. Thanks for watching
No it’s a direct drive clutch style transmission. But it has a hydraulic shuttle that allows shifting from forward to reverse without the foot clutch. Thanks for watching!
We just bought a plot of land and need to do exactly the same thing - almost identical terrain and slope.. would a tractor be a preferred vehicle or perhaps a small digger/dozer? we have less trees though - more brush- thanks!
@@khtractors gotcha thanks. Not sure what a pro would charge for this but we reckoned we could buy a working used machine, diy it and sell it off :) ive operated a skid and backhoe so pretty sure I can handle it.. only concern is the lack of power on the mini-ex machines :) kinda tiny
@@khtractors ok thanks - yes home depot has some rentals - i used it to grade and level my shop floor and move alot of dirt around- our grade is a bit steeper on one section, but im sure with careful digging we can manage.. by 3.5 ton do you mean the total vehicle weight?
Heritage Farms Texas Thanks! We have had just enough snow to tease us. I love plowing snow but we’ve only had one worth plowing. When I was a kid we had snow almost all winter. I’ll have one more of finishing up the road! Have a good day!
I say we all pray for u a drone and a bunch of stuff u don’t even ask for. God will provide u with what u need. My god is a awesome god and he won’t put more on u than u can handle . after u pray for it just get up every morning and thang god for another day and thank him for that drone wink wink. Just think he might b building u a drone with a saw on it or a front end blade. Just me but I think I would b asking for a heated cab for the tractor lol
