Vision is definitely one of my favorite stand-alone comics I’ve ever read. You don’t need to know the characters or world to get sucked in. Grab it. Buy it. Read it.

Like the style of this video man. I bought the I kill Giants book a couple of month ago because of your recommendation and I jumped into it immediately. It was fantastic, I hope to get it in hardcover format because my used softcover started to fall apart. I will check out these stuff because you have a good taste in these hidden gems. Thanks man!

Shazam by Geoff johns was a big surprise for me and always made me wish that they gave him a real run during the new 52. I was in middle school then and that is the era of comics when I was reading the most and I hold a lot of nostalgia for the n52

I recommend a graphic novel called "Dancer" by Nathan Edmondson. Hidden gem and a great stand alone story...at least in my opinion.

I'm going to recommend the graphic novel version of Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five for this list. Weather you are a fan of the novel or just looking for an easier entry into the world of Kurt Vonnegut. This one is brilliantly done, both in the translation into this form, and the artwork.

Great suggestion, there have been plenty of comics adaptations of novels over the years, but Slaughterhouse Five is one of the best I have ever read - a real classic.

Just subbed since this list was so go. Went back and checked out last years as well. Habibi was great, took me a few tries to get into it because there are some cultural steps to get over. But a great story and worth it if you commit to the story. My favorite standalone graphic novel is Triumph and Torment with Dr Strange and Dr Doom. Mike Mignola’s art is perfect for the other worldly nature of the story and Roger Stern’s plot keeps you guessing the whole time. It’s hard to find sometimes but we’ll worth it.

I highly recommend the "When the Wind Blows" or "Maximum Overdrive" series by James Patterson. I originally read it in book format, and years later Marvel teamed up with Patterson and a bunch of artists and released it in a graphic novel format. It's not for everyone, but I was such a fan of the books that I went out and got the 3 part graphic novel.

Cool list. I’ve never heard of WE3 and now I’ll look out for that one, since it’s an intriguing duo of Morrison and Quietly that did it. I own Vision, Daredevil, Habibi, and Old Man Logan and they are all great. My personal list would definitely have DD and I would throw in Hawkeye by Fraction/Aja, Moon Knight by Lemire, Ex-Machina, Y the Last Man, Batman by Loeb/Sale, and From Hell.

I just have to say that, with him being British, Brian Epstein's last name was pronounced "Ep-stine". Only us Americans seem to pronounce "stein" as "steen" for some reason, lol.

Old Man Logan is fire. I'm not the biggest fan of The Killing Joke because of how they treated Barbara, and all the real world stuff behind the scenes. Definitely fridged her.

@@NearMintCondition I agree completely. Geeks Unleashed has a great conversation about this, but they did leave out the alleged controversial conversation between Moore and Wein. That, and Moore's own words about the work are why it's not my favorite. There's no denying The Killing Joke is an iconic, albeit problematic, Batman story.

I watched I kill Giants, and had no idea it was a graphic Novel. We3 has my whole heart! Have you checked out Infinitum by Tim Fielder as a stand alone? The artwork is incredible and the story was just fascinating!

A great follow up to last year’s video, my friend! :) You definitely cheated with Old Man Logan and The Man Without Fear! But if it means someone looks into it who would’ve never considered it otherwise, it’s a win to me! My only problem is between the two vids you’ve yet to mention a Lemire title. Hey Omar! Great run down! Shame some of these are OOP, but if I were to recommend any stand alone GN's it would be The Kill Lock by Livio Ramondelli, Aster of Pan by Merwan and I've recently read Batman: Arkham Asylum which is just something else! Edit: Special mention to Daytripper. Probably the best and most profound story I've read in any form of literature! Keep up the great work!

My favourite standalone graphic novel is Lieutenant Blueberry: "The Sheriff" by Jean Giraud and Jean-Michel Charlier, 1969, "L’homme à l’étoile d'argent" :-) if you like to discover franco-belgian comic art, ask me :-)

lol I actually mention the change in definition about half way through the episode. Since they early 00s collected editions have been known as Graphic Novels.

I’m from the old guard too where graphic novels were a contract with God or God Loves Man Kills, but comics being introduced to the Book stores they are the ones that changed the term. I guess it’s a bigger audience for the word novel.

Habibi is great, btw. Some of the depictions of Islam and certain characters are a bit Orientalist, but it's otherwise a really great story. It's also just a really beautiful book.

@@nizwanmarzuki Well, there are a lot of sexual situations that include nudity, for one thing. Aside from that, I don't remember many specific things that bothered me, other than the leader of the place being portrayed with a harem. I'm sorry, I wish I could recall better what exactly bothered me, but it's been a few years since I read it.

Graphic novels are usually singular stories, or story arcs, like watchmen, or batman year one. And comics are just single issues of a story. Manga on the other hand is from Asia usually and black white. You have to read manga backwards as well, left to right.
