@16:30 I guess that Michael forgot to multiply by y as well when applying f on x^lambda. The powers of y should be increasing ad infinitum.

I am loosely following Introduction to Lie Algebras by Erdmann and Wildon. When appropriate I am adding information about infinite dimensional Lie algebras that are common in physics/ VOAs -- like the infinite dimensional Heisenberg Lie algebra, the Witt algebra, and later the Virasoro algebra.
