This kind of earnest, unabashedly passionate short essay is the best possible advert for this or any film, which I haven't seen but will now, and would have made its maker swell with pride. I am actually watching this video repeatedly to absorb your enthusiasm for this movie as fully as possible before I see it, which I hope will make the experience the richer. Thank you for bringing this work and its creator more to light. I have a stylistic suggestion. As your channel grows you may find that people suggest entirely good-naturedly you do things to make your vocal delivery more typically animated, more 'RU-vid'y. Do not listen to them. The way you naturally modulate your voice is, in a strange way I can't put my finger on, incredibly immersive for what you're doing. It has a certain authentic quality of charm and grounds your analysis in a familiarity and understated warmth that makes your work as whole highly listenable and easy to take in (hence my being able to watch it repeatedly. This is also aided by the exquisite background music; is it from the movie?). Looking forward to exploring your channel further.

Thank you so much for your incredibly thoughtful comment. It feels like a lifetime ago since I made this video so it blows my mind that people are still discovering my channel through it. I have made some improvements to my microphone quality since this video (mainly tweaking EQ to make my voice clearer) but I don’t think my delivery is that much different. For better or worse, I try to make my videos as authentic and truthful as possible. It warms my heart to be accepted and encouraged for being who I am opposed to being moulded, so thank you so much once again for your sincerity. Your comment has equally touched me in a way that few others have and yes to answer your question the music is from the film. Sending my absolute best wishes your way ❤️

Thank you for this video. I found it on MUBI by chance, knowing little about it bar its length and the summary, I had to watch. I was captivated by the quiet moments as much as the flashes of drama.

Thank you so much for watching ! It feels like a lifetime ago since I made this video, but this film is still among my favourites. You’re completely right, the strength of this film is in its quiet moments. It’s an incredibly cathartic experience overall and I’m so glad you managed to check it out ❤️

POWERFUL INTRO, I love it! I'm genuinely glad you brought this film to our attentions, as I never would have learned who Hu Bo was or the tragic fate in which caused his life to be taken from us His death serves an even bigger impact to this films emotional conveyance, and the lost potential of a film maker who is able to put his emotions and mind to film. R.I.P Hu Bo

It is an incredibly sad story. Hu Bo quite literally gave his life for his art and this film. I am so glad that my video has at least made one individual aware of his story. I hope in time more people learn about this work. Truly one of our generations greatest films ❤️

For western audiences, you may feel the grey sky and this kind of poor small city is a bit far from your life experience, I am here to prove you, as a native Chinese who grew up in a northern china small city like me, this whole movie vibe is so right, it just reminds me of my childhood and hometown. This depression city feeling is blended into my blood already.

Thank you so much for your comment and insight ! It’s fascinating to learn that what Hu Bo captured in this film is so true to life in China. I hope things aren’t so bleak for you now my friend ❤️

Hu wrote such words as the postscript of his novel Bullfrog: Literature and film are not only salvation, but also a channel connected to a certain world which touches those mysterious and undefined situations, makes you more lenient with everything around you, to still long for every incoming encounter even when you know that expectation is nothing but an error code in human genes, and most of the outcomes end up depressing. Hu really got that literature talent. It's a real pity that his works have not been translated to any other languages. His words are raw, unpretentious and abstract. But there still exists faint glimmers of hope in those ridiculous stories. Just like the quote he cited as foreword from the Bela Tarr film Werckmeister Harmonies: Deep emotion pierces everyone. They have escaped the weight of darkness.

I hope to see Hu’s work translated one day as I would love to read them. His passing is one of cinemas greatest tragedies and I could only imagine what he could of given to the world if he was still here. May he rest in peace ❤️

Your overlay of music in the background almost drowns out your voice. I had to really focus to hear you whispering. You really don't need it! Trust you're enough without it.

I really appreciate your feedback man ! Looking back on this video you’re right, I definitely should of lowered the volume of the music. I believe I have now corrected this issue, but my ears aren’t my strongest point 😂. This was only my 2nd video so I was definitely finding my footing, hell I still am 😂😂. I shall keep doing my best to improve, thank you once again ❤️
