Good old days. Excellent, well made tractors. Fond memories of our trusty 885xl and Johnson bros. Now, today, tractors are made of chocolate and Johnsons site is a modern mess of cheap housing.
Not quite sure how showing us clips of tractor assembly is supposed to convince us that they are better than competitors. I'd agree that to drive, the International tractor cab was a much nicer place to be than the MF or Ford for example. But compared in terms of reliability and power output, the MF would win hands down. My family owned and worked with both. The older 50s and 60's Internationals were great. The 454/574 series was lovely to operate but not quite as durable. An MF165 with it's Perkins engine was way better than the IH574 in terms of power output and durability. Then when we get to the 85 series - God awful machines - problems with the back end..nightmares!
I'm thinking about buying a 674. It's in very tidy condition and owned by an old land owner up the road from me. It will be my first tractor and I can get it for a good price. Do you think I should go ahead with it? I also seen a 785xl at a much greater price than the 674. Should I go with a completely different brand, maybe ford or Massey? Thanks.
