Red Alert Flamethrowers aren't total dogshit unlike in C&C1.

@@boxtank5288 Yes, but they require a Tech Center to train and by that point in the game, there are far better alternatives to deal with infantry and structures unless you're REALLY bored.

@@SoldierOfFate That's true, again, least they aren't a total waste of cash like Tiberium Dawn's flamethrowers.

@@boxtank5288 yes, they could be useful in missions that have unit restrictions that don't adhere the normal tech levels.

TD Flamethrowers are used in Nod mission 5 where they debut as a good anti-infantry base defense. The AI is stupid and always targets the northernmost thing(airstrikes and base assaults). I use this to my advantage and put a SAM site north of everything else so that takes the airstrike, and the minigunners and grenadiers waste their time attacking it as well. At that point a Flamethrower can kill many infantry once occupied. It is garbage for base attacks through, as it can kill more of your army than theirs when they blow up or fire the wrong way. Also, from mission 5 on, you can get vehicles, which start to make infantry in general obsolete, as at least vehicles can be repaired(no medics yet in this game).

It doesn't leave you like everyone else does...

Surprised by how long they held out though, the rocket soldiers got too preoccupied targeting individual flamethrower soldiers instead of their barracks.

Interestingly, a similar fight happened in ep 3, and NOD wins rather convincingly.

@@lyonvensa Was that the battle where Nod had GDI surrounded from all sides? Edit: I went back to the video. Well, once Nod gets a bit of everything (especially if they have SSMs) it evens out for them because their long-ranged units are superb over GDI's in every aspect - especially when their MLRS actually loses against Nod's Artillery in a 1v1.

Very true, Nod benefits more from isolating targets, as well as "hit and run" tactics. In RA though, the Allies can win by sheer numbers alone, against the Soviets, as seen in Ep 2.

They had lost 3 barracks by that stage, they kinda won by losing first.

Grenadiers actually benefits from the AI's behavior to go straight for the building, so even when the rocket soldiers kill them, their explosion hurts and kills the rocket soldiers too.

@@lyonvensa Yes indeed. Grenadiers are also the fastest infantry, so they can "banzai charge" to the enemy to damage them with their death explosion.

Grenadiers explode when they die, the manual even states that you have to be careful about keeping them in groups because their bag of grenades "spills" when they die. However they are nowhere as suicidal as Flamethrowers so that's why there weren't as many mass suicides for them

They're hard to work with because their explosions are quite buggy, but they're definitely on the list.

because units are free the rocket soldier side is essentially pumping out 2-3x more value than the other sides. This is why it held up against others.

@@diegocn123 with their speed and single target attacks ultimately being their undoing, I figured either Grenediers or Riflemen, then I settled on Grenediers.

The Rocket Soldier's attack range is superior to all other infantry units except for the Shock Trooper, so they always get first strike.

@@SoldierOfFate also Grenediers are quite quick to produce. Even with free units it still 'costs' time.

He just used whole his luck and luck of his all descendants and all luck of his squadmates, so hazard isnt a good idea now.

Stavros isn't in RA2 cause his deployment was unanimously agreed to constitute a warcrime. Then again, do we ever see anyone mess with Greece afterwards? I think not.

Once the formation/spacing issue is sorted out, the granadier is the clear king of anti infantry.

@@diegocn123 I was gonna say this...once they were no longer bunching up it became obvious they were gonna wreck the rocket soldiers, despite having fewer numbers and the longer distance to travel.

@@StuGames Completely understandable.

You might even tamper around with mods like RA2's Mental Omega or something. So far it's only unit tests but rarely massive fights like the things you do. It's a possibility.

@@aceshighdueceslow If it was two humans fughting Nod would probably win because they would scatter much more. And light tanks and bikes are the best for it.

Eh, NOD's light tank is not as agile and as powerful as Allied's. Kinda saw that coming.

@@ITBEurgava I reflection, yes I suppose it was fairly obvious. I just expected the Bikes to rampage which slightly didn't happen!

Grenades > Rockets when it comes to killing soldiers. Rockets don't blow up hard enough :)

@@SandsOfArrakis that and the Grenadiers are not as prone to exploding their colleagues compared to the Flamethrowers. Once they had enough open ground to spread out, it was over for the Rockets
