Like nothing you've ever seen before ...unless you've seen the work of this South African artist: William Kentridge.
Presented by Fondation Luma at Arles' Parc des Ateliers during Les Rencontres d'Arles 2016. Charcoal drawing/video projection on 8 screens. A second line/dance macabre set to an original soundtrack.

I too saw this in Zeitz Mocaa in Cape Town. I was first drawn by the music, went into the room and was captured by the music and visual masterpiece. I could have sat there forever watching and listening. It touched my soul.

@@sonjadolzan614 Yes, in the beginning, I tried too hard to understand the interpretation of the artist. But a the end, I let myself completly immerse into the videos and I interpreted it myself. That's also what the art is about, isn't it ? So that everyone can find his own voice through it.

@@elenamorinstal Ah, it is surprisingly how our reactions were so similar! I also tried to understand it at first, but then I just let myself enjoy it even though it seemed so senseless. Even now when I watch it, it is only pure delight!

I saw this in Cape Town just before we put the planet on lockdown. I was truly awestruck--especially by this piece. Sad. Spooky. Happy. Surreal. Worrying. Bold. Grandiose. Shocking. Pensive... all at once. You have to see it a few times to see what you missed the previous few times!

Saw this last weekend at the Milwaukee Art Museum preceded by a very informative lecture. The piece was amazing and haunting. Tangential: There was a long row of school chairs for viewers, but unfortunately twice as many people as chairs. I was irritated to see a dozen kids (6-12 years) sitting, leaving a large tour group of seniors to stand for 20-30 mins. behind the chairs of the seated kids. Not all the parents were clueless, there were several other kids who sat on the floor next to their parent/guardian and gave up their chairs to adults.
