One of the clips of Tatiana Groshkova taken from the documentary More than a Game from 1991 (I think).
The original posted video was lifted from VHS, so the quality is watchable. If anyone has a better copy of the original documentary, I would love to see it. This was my first time using Premiere Pro to edit the clips and I had no idea what I was doing. hehe
Just a side thought: I love that there was footage of Tatiana, but I hate the editing. They didn't show her completing a single skill, instead they showed her making mistakes. I know she was inconsistent at times during competition, but this documentary doesn't show how great she really was...

Now i know why Tatiana Groshkova didn't do more with her amazing talent, it must have been like being a convict with chains around your ankles. She was just the best pure athlete i have ever seen.

Good lord, Tatiana is sooooooo tiny. It didn't hit me at the time because most of the top girls were around her height and weight. But she was itty bitty. Exceedingly thin. Crazy that such a tiny kid could be so strong

I think it's funny that people are making assumptions about Saadi and Groshkova based off of an American documentary. This isn't the first time that such a documentary has A) Translated the Soviet coaches in such a way that they sound like slave drivers and B) Depicted the gymnasts as dejected and discouraged. Mean while these same types of programs show American gymnasts as happy, happy little athletes when in fact, they are being worked and disciplined just as hard. Don't trust the propaganda, people! This thing has an editorial POV.

I know. Steve Nuno with Shannon Miller was just as bad. Soviets were just more honest.

I wonder what it is that everyone thinks Saadi is doing so wrong. I don't see any abuse here, unless you count being tough and critical abusive. She is being like every other coach of an elite gymnast. What, do you think you can create a world-class athlete by being kind and trying to soothe every criticism with a nice comment? The answer is no.

Shatarupa I'm with you. I don't know much about Saadi's reputation but I didn't think she was being overly harsh. She's pushing her athlete. And Tatiana seemed dejected because she was having a rough day of training. She even said so herself. I didn't think she was necessarily reacting to her coach's comments. I see a tough coach being tough on her athlete and trying to get her to focus.

Ugh, I thought my hatred for Saadi knew no bounds, but after watching her coach Groshkova I think I hate her even more. Awful woman.

Elvrira Saadi was asked to raise the best gymnasts in the world, no wonder she was so hard. ..... I would do the same if I was coaching in the Sovjet Union (or what was left of it).

What in the hell are you even talking about and what does it have to do with my comments? Also, check Groshkova's skills and their difficulty against other people competing at the time. If anything, being part of the USSR team is even harder, because you have to be even better than the average gymnast in every other team. It's what ails China today. Run along now, and go count other gymnasts' medals because that is obviously the only way to judge how good they were.

I know medals aren't everything, that's the whole point of my comment. Did you not read? I was saying it's dumb to judge the value and quality of a gymnast by just counting their medals jfc

They class her as a double Olympic gold medalist BUT in reality they were team golds. Individually??? no Olympic medals, im not dissing her as a gymnast as I know she was good but it helped being part of the USSR shall we say!

@tlarapova226 Saadi is just a horrible, bitter coach all around. :( I wish she would retire from coaching, I can't even stand her on interviews about gymnastics. She tries to come across as really talented but she's just really abusive. I felt so bad for Groshkova here. Horrible woman.

I suggest you read correctly next time. If you had, you'd have known I was talking about Saadi (your comment was about her after all) Did Groshkova win two Olympic team gold medals????? NO - I dont think highly of people who wrongly jump down other peoples throats......saying jog along and all that shit ! nice...not

I suggest you learn how to fucking express yourself in written language. I dare you to reread your comment and tell me it is clear. Take your butthurt whinging elsewhere, nobody is interested.
