Indianapolis is the 500. A.J. Foyt once said, "If it wasn’t for the Indianapolis 500, none of you would’ve ever heard of me." The same might be said of Indianapolis. Video by Jenna R. Watson/IndyStar
I am a native Hoosier, but had never been to The Speedway till 1962. I was a paper-boy for the Indianapolis Star. My route manager told us carriers that if we could each get 5 new subscribers, he would take us to time trials @ IMS. That was my first trip to IMS. The highlight of that trip was paying a dollar and a half for a black & white Polaroid photo of me and Indy Car driver Eddie Sachs.
It really is the people that make this race so special. The people of Indianapolis, the fans that come from all over the world, the drivers and teams that hold it in such reverence.
Love this...! Love everything about this place and proud to be a Hoosier... Thanks Roger Penske and Doug Boles and all the rest for what you do to make it the greatest...!
Love this film! Thank you so much for producing it. I tell everyone I see that there's NOTHING on the entire planet that matches the START of the Indy 500. Your organs inside your body vibrate so much, you'll wonder if your feet are even touching the ground as those 33 cars streak by WIDE-OPEN...you just have to experience it once in your life.
AWESOME VID. 10/10 Yeah, I'll watch episode 2 tomorrow of 100 Days, but gave ep 1 a 7/10 (did not need two segments of a crawling baby and his dad doing exercises ) .this was awesome.
I've been watching the Indy 500 from beginning to end since 2016. Unfortunately I missed the 2018 Indy 500 because I had to move into a new house that same day
it is hallowed ground for racing, and its the largest sports stadium in the world, as well as the worlds first super speedway, cars mean a ton to indiana, the studabakers, the stutz, the auburn automotive company, the first gas powered vehichle in the usa if not world in kokomo, it was the first race of its kind and its what keeps us on the map, though the railroads were also a major part of indiana as its the flat cross roads of the nation on the way north or on the way to chicago, the raceway is also a testing ground, a musiume, and offices, as well as three differant courses, the superspeedway the roadcorse and the dirt track on turn three for the bc 39 midget race named after mr bryan clausen who would give you the shirt off his back or of himself as he did as a n organ donor, california born he moved here years ago, and is buried not far from the raceway and state fair in crown point, he is one of us, and exemplifies what the racing community is here. and its a city that has every kind of racing imaginable, though I think we need to talk to the state fair for not even leaving the inner track dirt so we could race cars there, or set one up temporarly or around irp, we dont have a big dirt track in indy anymore but it dont have to be without if some parties were to compromise. do it at irp, build one here in the vatican of racing, or put a temp one up on the inner part of the state fair, it just takes one half mile for there to be dirt usac silver crown dirt champ car racing in indy again, or convice horseshoe casino its a dirt mile
AS past announcers say The Worlds Greatest Sporting Event, there's NOTHING more american then the month of may and the Indianapolis 500 and i'm from upstate n.y.!
