I was a resident in Green Hill School in chehalis Washington as a resident from June 2017 to june 2018. They been working on this since I was there. I remember all 4 of them and respect all of them. I was in the same housing as Joseph I'm really happy they were able to accomplish there one of there many goals to help juveniles in the future. Them 4 helped me through my sentence when I was in there. They helped me see life in A different way a much more positive way. Happy for them.
I applaud these young men and green hill school in general.i was there in 1990 when Bob Williams was superintendent and was sent to DOC as a juvenile with a juvenile charge because I was so out of control as a youth at Green hill school-So I know firsthand that sending youth to prison is not the answer.Education and a useable trade are 75% of the answer the other 25% is WANTING to do better and change.I am praying and rooting for these young men and I hope to see them 5 years from now free and living productive lives.God bless.
I worked at The Hill for a long time. I've met all these kids. Some made a difference, some didn't. Carmichael was my guy, my contract worker. He was a great young man that had a awesome head on his shoulders. I'm glad he made a difference in his life, and in many, many others as well.

Alot of them want to go the right path and lot still go down the wrong path my heart goes out to all these kids they need love guidence job stability god
I worked at Green Hill from 2006 to 2015. There is no training for counselors. My job got dangerous when kids at the school stopped following staff directives to stand against the wall when a fight was happening at the school. Admin told residents that they didn't need to follow staff directives. Admin let a resident off room confinement after an escape attempt without consulting the counselor. She went over a counselor's head and let another resident out of orange after escaping and assaulting staff. I got fired out of retaliation for telling admin how sorry the place had become. Residents can assault staff with little or no consequences and a lot of good seasoned staff have left.
As a resident who was in Green Hill, working in Security as their custodian, on the Youth Council and WA-PCJJ Subcommittee, and was apart of NEO with the Superintendent, and was one of the better behaved residents who had a lot of insight with the rules and regulations, I would say, at least durring my time at Green Hill (2017-2020) I would say that kind of protocol wasn’t ever a thing. Youth were, in most cases, appropriately held accountable. Administration, especially, never told us we didn’t have to follow directives. A guy got charged for tossing a grape at a staff, so I don’t even know what the “little to no consequence for assaulting staff thing was about” staff are given the discression not to press charges too by the way.
I think we need to be careful with the bill of letting juvenile go before the sentencing time because we don't want the young kids do these crimes don't think they could commit a crime and few years they get out
I wish when I was released I was taught More about the real world. Like credit, interest, loans rather than CBT and dbt and art. Bunch of bull. I went in a child and came out a child. They need to come up with better transition programs so when these kids get out they are not completely handicapped from reality and life outside of the gates. Programs that offer housing and jobs ect.ect.
It's interesting that you mention that, the data supports fractured relationships with fathers or lacking a father role in general, increases the likelihood of incarceration for juvenile young men.
Trevor meredith these are children. Despite the things they have done they are still children. And you say things like this not understanding what really goes on in these places. Let's talk about the wards of the state. The children that are thrown in places like this not for crimes but simply because they have been rejected by the foster care system. That is right. When I was in there there were kids in there that didn't even commit a crime their behavior was simply too much for the foster care system to handle. Let's talk about the psychiatric drugs given to developing minds. Let's talk about how these drugs have mentally crippled children and effected their lives as adults. Let's talk about ptsd. Let's talk about children being fed through tray doors in a cell covered in feces and blood. This is the washington jra system. Or it used to be.
I can’t speak for certain, but I do believe that all of us in that video do have remorse for our actions, but I also think you missed the point. That video is about our personal experiences within the justice system and JR, and how we’ve been able to become “more than our crimes” hence the name of the video. The point is that though we made mistakes, we can’t keep focusing on our past. The way I see it is we either go right back in the cycle of destruction, or to try to overcome our mistakes and give back where we have taken. By using that what we have learned and experienced, we’re givin the opportunity to make change in the system. Make it where youth who commit crimes have the best chance for treatment and rehabilitation. That doesn’t go without saying that there will be youth who never change. Youth who continue a life of evil and either end up in prison or dead. Nevertheless there isn’t any reason why the people who do want to change, can’t. As a Christian I believe anybody has the potential to change. No matter what the crime. You forget sir, nobody’s perfect, we all go through shit, and we are in fact just kids. Some of us just make worse mistakes than others.
@@josephhuntley569 my comments are directed to one of the characters in this video. I personally know one of his victims. I know the suffering he has caused and watched the indifference he and his family showed to the victims and the suffering they went through and will continue to go though. This pitiful attempt to reduce their sentences is just a chicken shit way of avoiding responsibility.
