More to Hornby Dublo than just circuits on a table top. Turning a train - twice.

I hope that this interests people and thanks in advance for watching and sharing. Hornby Dublo, three rail especially, has the reputation of being for the table top. What I've tried to do here is show a little of what can be achieved utilising the unique features of three rail (the reversing loops), some judicious use of isolating tracks and semaphore signals linked to points. This is not to take anything from the wonder of watching these lovely trains go round and round. Any reference to soldering should involve a credit to my friend James who does all "my" soldering. I am utterly useless at it.

Thanks. I wondered if anyone would be interested. The next video, due in about a week, is taken from a running day in December. Mostly the lower part of the layout given we were just trying to give things a workout.

Tried both the trix Britannia and standard V with my dublo layout, and tbh I quite easily see why trix were less than successful at the time. It's one thing to have foreshortened coaches but I found the trix locos uncomfortably smaller than the dublo stock. Just looking at the tender size when hauling coaches it just looked all wrong. I liked the diecast bodies of course, but I'm not too sure why the traction tyres were necessary. The trix western was a great model, but I ended up less than enthusiastic about the drive train: especially with that common trix problem of the motor dislodging. I turned a dublo EE Co-Co into a prototype Deltic which ended up quite fun, but just before the conversion was when I noticed that dublo made different body castings for the co-co and Deltic. Great railway system you've got there :)

I think that the traction tyres add very little. The flanges when they are large are hilarious on points. I too like the bodies. This one is mostly relegated to scenic roles.

'Your' soldering appears to be working well ;)

Amazing layout you don't have link to your track plan please

Thanks. There is no track plan on paper. I will do a video trying to show how it all works. The bottom of the layout is simple just a series of circuits (5). The upper level took months of trial and error. For instance to get one of the loops to fit took a combination of large and small radius tracks. I'll also commit to a sketch of both top and bottom. I tend to be a bit pushed for time so my production rate is about one video per month. The next one will be about 20 minutes of last month's running day. BTW. The layout is not finished yet.
