Thanks for your thoughtful comments. You're very welcome. I believe that I have in my collection many of the more interesting record labels in that book. It was a lot of fun trying to find the different record labels - most of which I found a long time ago.
Thanks so much, Victrolaman, for your gracious comments. I consider myself fortunate to have found what I have over the years and have always been passionate and tireless in my efforts to find the unusual items. It's been a lot of fun but I've slowed a bit and am now enjoying what I have. I enjoy seeing and hearing many wonderful items from your collection on your channel as well. I will try to post some videos of those records for you. Thanks again for the nice comments.
Thanks for the reply, I actually always bring home anything that looks a little bit like the records you own, yet my collection is at one million of flea markets from being half of great as this one. Your have done a purely awesome work with it.
Thank you, Paul, for the interesting and informative comments on "The Twin" label. I believe I have another example in a different color label as well. Here in the States it is a hard to find label.
Thanks for sharing interesting & beautiful labels. In England 'The Twin' label is quite easy to find & is actually a subsidiary of 'The Gramophone Company' They wanted to distance themselves from double sided discs (which were associated with cheap imports) but profit from the demand for them. 'Twins' appeared in 1908, but were absorbed by their other subsidiary (British Zonophone) in 1911. Double sided Zonophones retained 'The Twin' logo for some time.
Incredible collection you have! Thanks for posting these - as for the Victor records, you literally have maybe about half of interesting records shown on the recent Michael W. Sherman Book, "Collector's Guide to Victor Records"
Jackie Coogan was the child actor who appeared in a few of Charlie Chaplin's movies, and the law protecting the earnings of child actors, "Coogan's Law" was named for him. In the 1960s he became famous all over again as "Uncle Fester" in the Addams Family TV Sit-Com series.
What an awesome collection of rare early records! Listen, a little more info on the British "The Twin" label. I am a world music collector. "The Twin" was used heavily in India, as was His Master's Voice! There were several different Indian "The Twins" Issued there. Most were of music from there. I've got a few in my collection. I do not know how long that label was in circulation there, but it is a fairly common label in India. The are usually a good handful of Indian "The Twin"'s listed on Ebay. Also, if I'm not mistaking, the red star on the Edison Diamond discs was used as a signal to the dealers that these records were not expected to be any type of a big seller and usually had to be special ordered out of the Edison catalog. (The only thing is, you didn't know it had a red star on it until it showed up!) If that customer refused the record after he ordered it, the star on the label indicated that it could not be sent back to the company. The dealer was stuck with it. That's the story I got about the "star" of the Edison Diamond Discs back in the 70's and '80's when I was really strong in collecting 78's. Thanks once again for this great video.
Yes, there were two colours, yellow & pale brown. Thint it was a U.K. only label. If you 'Google' mgthomas label index, you'll find a list of record labels & pictures. Some even have a list of recordings as well.
