Hello everyone! I wanted to share some more exciting updates at the house!! Today Jay and I are working on framing my closet door, and we have more tile decisions to make!
Hey there! My name is Abby and I recently bought a MAJOR fixer upper house. I am SO excited to work on fixing it up this old house and turning it into my dream home. I can't wait to take you on this journey with me! I am planning to DIY as much as I can and learn so much about home renovations along the way. I am starting out totally clueless so I am sure it will be a grand adventure! Follow along on my channel if you want to see DIY projects, renovating a house on a budget, and I am sure a lot of craziness along the way! I'm just a girl with a drill and a dream.

I like the herringbone design. It captures more of the light and shadow of the space and draws you in.
@robine916

You could do the herringbone in the middle, and have a soldier course all around the edges (like 1 row of the stacked design). This would reduce the cutting and make it look sort of like a rug💕💕

If you are putting plants on the window sills you better put several coats of poly on them so they don't get water stains.

I'm 80, with my balance getting worse, so leave it to me to think of something like this: Consider putting a beautiful custom bannister on your upstairs stairway, so in your old age you have something to hang onto while going up and down your stairway. I would also put a hand rail on the wall side. And don't forget to consider ceiling fans. We have them in our house, and couldn't be w/o them during our hot summers!
@craiggillett5985
@craiggillett5985 Месяц назад
That’s a great idea at any age, I’m a little clumsy, often misjudge my steps, and often walk around and forget to turn on lights. ( and after a few drinks as well 😉)A beautiful but practical hand rail would be absolutely the thing to do.

I prefer the herringbone look over the stacked tile look. Sometimes the extra work makes a significant overall difference in the rich, satisfying look.

I totally agree. A total headache to get it down but you only have to do it once. The stacked pattern looks like a just-get-er-done builder basic and will be dated in a couple years. The herringbone pattern, in wood or tile is a timeless, notch-up classic.

Herringbone yes, possibly with a border to minimise cutting requirements. Wide windowsills for plants, amazing, plenty of layers of poly to minimise the water staining. The heather and sand colours for the closets will look so so pretty ❤

Under washer- either a remnant of vinyl flooring or stick on vinyl tiles. Pretty cheap, protects against water and a cinch to clean. Love the herringbone. A darker tile color would be nice contrast with the micro-cement. Also consider if you will have a bath rug/mat and what color it will be.

It might be more work, but you will be forever proud of your efforts. I keep all the extra tiles, like a box + for each bathroom I did…just in case something happens and a repair is needed.

I vote - herringbone for the upstairs bathroom. Suggestion - get a notebook or spiral notebook and make a "punch list" for each room. It's nice to cross each one off as they're finished. You won't forget anything and can add to the lists as things come up. Can add shopping lists in also and envelopes or protective sleeves for color swatches and ideas.

@2:43 yes! Rubber Matt’s under the appliances. My brother put a made to measure matt that’s kind of like a giant yoga Matt. He placed one on the back wall as well. His appliances are almost silent, the base mat absorbs 90% of machine noice and the back matt does the same but stops that background drone from going through the wall.

Normally I’d be team herringbone all the way, but something about that stacked pattern just got me!! I think it would compliment the style of interior doors you’re having built. It’s got that modern farmhouse vibe! Been following since the beginning! The finish line is in sight.

Finish carpentry time! It’s like icing the cake! I love your selections for closet doors and doors. The herringbone design on the floor would look the best. It adds some character and dimension since your walls will not have any tile. It’s also a classic design so less possibility of it looking dated. I think you should paint the base of your laundry risers. This way if any water does get on the OSB it won’t be as easy absorbed into the wood. Definitely use a rubber sound damping liner and a washing machine drain pan to capture water in case of a leak.

Hi abbi , just a thought about the idea of a covering under the machines in your laundry area , you could look at something from the motor industry, a self adhesive rubber sheeting material with combined sound deadening properties, used under floor carpets ,door panels, mostly on restoration projects, as you have a simple flat area to cover it would be easy to stick it down and put a thin robust carpet over it and jobs a good un 😁😏👍oh and I think the herringbone would be cool , especially if you lay a flat border around them , will help to decrease your cuts as well 🤔👍
