I love Woman, Eating! I'm writing all of these down for my tbr. I've also read Tell Me I'm Worthless... it's SO GOOD but I don't see myself re-reading it ever because the sexual violence was a lot... but I really recommend it for the right reader! Have you read Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield? I think you'd like it based on these! This kind of genre of literary/weird/horror is my new favorite genre!
Ooohhh I just picked up Nightbitch! I'm even more excited to read it now. These are some excellent recommendations, some of them are on my wishlist and the rest of them defs are now.
you might like chlorine by jade song. a young swimmer obsessed with mermaids since childhood deals with the pressure of swimmimg competitively under an abusive coach. trying to dodge spoilers... her obsession with mermaids leads to a quest for freedom from the constraints of girlhood and competitive swimming. body horror, a life collapsing, queer themes abound. oh and catriona ward's sundial. peak weird girl behavior, dark twisty family history, a maybe-ghost, desert setting, mad scientists. it was probably my favorite thing i read last year.
