Welcome to my Channel,
My name is James and I live full time in my tiny van, however this is not just a van life channel. I enjoy travel, food and drink and making videos 🙂
When I turned 50 I decided I’d had enough of the rat race and working long hours just to pay rent and bills, life was passing me by and I needed a drastic change.
FAQ
Where is Helen?
Helen has a responsible full time job and two children so unfortunately she can’t join me on every trip. I really wish she could.
What equipment do you use?
My vlogging camera is a GoPro Hero 9 but I also use my pixel 6a phone and Lumix G80 camera for other footage
For editing, I used Premiere Pro on an old laptop but I’m saving to buy a more powerful computer.
Do you have children?
Yes I have a 6yr old daughter who lives with her mum but I see her quite a lot. I don’t usually put her on the vlogs and if I do, I block out her face for privacy reasons. I also have a grown up son.
How do you fund your lifestyle?
I don’t need as much to live these days since going full time van life but I receive a small percentage of income from the ads that RU-vid put on the videos.
Why the sponsored videos?
I only accept sponsorship from companies I use and trust, this is my fulltime job and my income, it’s how I support my family. (I have Patreon if you prefer videos with no ads).

I've watched your channel James pretty much from its beginning and have enjoyed watching it grow, and while your videos have never failed to entertain me, may I just say that it's plain to see how your filming and editing skills have both blossomed. The opening of this video, with the haunting melancholic tones of Morrissey would have graced any mainstream TV programme and you should be rightly proud of it.

When I was a road cyclist around 12 years ago , I used to set off from Grange Over Sands and Morecambe Bay always used to be my first stop of the day ,,and I can’t ever recall a time there wasn’t a gale force wind on that sea front at Morecambe ,,it’s sad to see it in deep decline but the whole country’s heading that way at a astonishing rate.

Sadly Morecambe, in my opinion, has suffered the same fate as many seaside towns up and down the country.....lack of investment and forward planning by property owners and numerous bad planning decisions by council leaders over the years. The same people who quite happily took their bags of silver when times were good.

You’re right about rich second home owners buying up the houses and the locals suffering but…… it was the locals in the first place that sold out cos someone dangled a big fat cheque book in front of them . They can’t really complain that these places are ghost towns in the winter when it was them that’s the root of the problem!!!. Sadly money talks …. Great vlog you two!

I think the plans for the Eden Project in Morecambe actually look like they could be really good. As for the small shops, yes it's a bit sad that they'll have to move premises, but I suspect they'll have more custom once more people start coming to Morecambe and there's higher footfall in general. Also....great intro 👌

Heysham, Morecambe, Lancaster like many other Towns and City's are struggling with the economic down turn after COVID. They are all nice in their own way and feel better in the warmer weather. Glad the footage came out, considering the wind and pending storm. I agree the Eden Project will encourage more tourism but unfortunately and likely to the detriment of local businesses. James, nice to see you and Helen in my neck of the woods and I hope to see more of you in the area perhaps in the summer months. 😎👍

Hi Both of you, love your vlogs, back in the early 80's I used to work on Heysham Power Station once every six months. I used to stay in the Famous Midland Hotel and it was fantastic. The town was buzzing, full of contractors working on the Power Station so there was plenty of money about. You couldn't go in a pub without hearing the song The Crystal Chandelier being blasted out. Happy memories of my youth. Thank you.

Visited just over a week ago from NZ🇳🇿Did the bracing walk along the prom and also the carvery.Had a great couple of days.Very fond memories of Morecambe and Heysham,enjoyed a couple 🍻in the old railway station.Midland was looking a bit tired even after the recent makeover.Would love to see the town get back on its feet.Get back to Lancaster,had a great day sightseeing too.

If you’d gone along the seafront in the other direction there is a lovely little park/gardens with a nice cafe of season, too busy on season. We go there as my husband’s mums boyfriend is in a care home near it. I love seaside resorts off season. I just want the sea and a quiet cafe.

Need to find some easide towns that are turning this decline around and how they are doing it. Coastal towns and cities in the UK. Historically, many coastal towns in the UK relied heavily on industries such as fishing, shipping, and manufacturing, which have experienced decline in recent decades. This economic shift may have contributed to the decline of these areas. The shift in holidays in the sun over decades has a massive impacct , its so sad to see all this decline everywphere. Luckily we have you to loveley people who can brighten up the dullest of days wherever you are.❤❤❤❤

In peak season Morecambe is busy and buzzing, of course it looks dead in winter, in a storm 🙄 If you're not made of money, Morecambe is affordable, and in this cost of living crisis that's got to be welcome for less well off families ❤

Sad to see these cities losing their small businesses and I think a lot of people would agree, it's such a shame. I've been in the desert traveling around for 16 days now in the van, I love it. Back in the late 70's i played in a band..did a season in Morecambe....it was really posh..tea dances...jackets and ties at dinner...what a shame...but great to see you two cheering up the town...great quote from the Yorkshireman..."flat cap on tightest setting".....

Great Vlog you two and I love your posh respectful voice James when you were talking to Brian, I do that apparently lol. That cafe was a credit to Morecombe, it would sit happily in any posh suburb in the country, hopefully it will encourage similar business to invest in the town. So sad to see a once jewel in the crown so neglected, it is criminal that we have allowed our seaside towns to fall into such states. Your editing is getting much better James, I loved the opening scenes, you really nailed it and the Vlog was an honest reflection, not in any way disrespecting, I loved it.

Its so sad that these once bustling seaside towns have been allowed to decline. Lytham and St Annes are lovely you should take a trip there.

My brothers just moved to Morecambe and I like it. Been there a few times before. I think it can be cheery and with them hopefully bringing the Eden project there should help it a lot. It's a bit more connected than Blackpool which is another run down town :c

Morecambe used to be brilliant when i was growing up in the 80s and 90s.There's not as much for kids as there once was though my niece who's from london loves the arcades 😂 I agree with the fella you met about the view!

OMG you certainly make sacrifices for your art, poor Helen I bet it took a while to get the tangles out after that. Still you found a coffe shop and a pub, Helen even found a charity shop that was open. So well done for salvaging a very credible video out of what was a weather catastrophe. Only been to Morecambe once, for football, was expecting the worst, but was pleasantly surprised, we had a great time, mind you the sun was shining and we won 5-2, so maybe just caught the place on a good day, certainly better than Fleetwood though, now that is grim.

James and Helen, I just discovered your channel and must say how refreshing it is. I find you do a very professional job, James, the videography and editing is great and from what I've seen, the choice of topics diverse. Helen is a delight. And the incidental music you choose strikes me as very tasteful. There's a lot more depth to you both than you put on camera and i love that you're so natural. I like how you've shown some really attractive features of your region - all new to me. I've been living abroad for the last 35 years but my family is originally from near Barnsley and near Doncaster. Because of my Dad's work we lived abroad and in the Midlands and the Southwest. My memories of visiting family in Sheffield and Rotherham are of the rare warm days and the frequent cold ones! Hearing you both speak makes me feel you're distant family. What you've taught me is that it's definitely worth making the effort to come to the area both sides of the Pennines when I'm visiting the UK. Thank you again for your hard work and genuineness. Sad really Morecambe ....I went there as a kid in the 1960s and it wasn't that good then.... all I can remember about it was a Large pirate ship on the front promanade which kids loved .... but even then, you compared it to Blackpool which in that era was fantastic (not anymore)

Love Costa del Morecambe lived there as a child, when frontier land closed and the blue lagoon ( which was an open air swimming pool with wave machines with slides sunbathing areas) they killed the town and all those small businesses, then Lancaster got most of the money out the pot for rejuvenation probably the last 20 years money has started trickling in and I can't say they haven't tried, they even aloud some fairground rides on the front but it's nothing that would draw a annual visit, I think there is word of some plans to reopen frontier land in some way, so it's a watch this space situation back in greater Manchester, maybe in the future I'll go back, would love too oh and the natives a such lovely people.

Great video as always, we were in Morecambe on the 3rd of January and the weather was dry and very calm, i hope the town has a resurgence and get some real investment on top of the Eden project, thanks for sharing ❤️👍

We spent a few days in Heysham, just down't road a few years ago and went in to Morecambe every day. We passed The Station a few times and I didn't realise it's a pub! Booger. Looks nice, too. But we did visit the Wetherspoons Eric Bartholomew a lot.

James...its all just too sad what is happening in the north of England...I lived in Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire and it became "bought up" by southerners who could sell a house down south and afford to but 3 in my town with the proceeds..then they live in one and air b&B or rent out the other two. You would be hard pressed to hear a northern accent in that part of Yorkshire now...very sad...

brillant bideo,intro fab, you intrigued me to find out what eden project was,its a £100 million pound 3 dome echo plant horticulture enviroment ,it will probably cost about £50 per family visit and the ticket may let you come back all year like eden in cornwall,i love eden in cornwall and have visited over many seasons and years ,this will be fabulous for tourism eateries and pubs.and more work.i wish we could have one in south wales .I havent been to moorecomb video has inspired me too.I must say your video are getting so good well done.love it.

Hi guys Thanks for the vlog about Morecambe. Such a sad decline of the British seaside resort , but there is hope on the horizon. What a fantastic thing to happen to not just Morecambe but the north west. The council need to get on the ball and fast. Looked way to cold for me though. You need to revisit when the project is on its way and see the difference. We will certainly visit Morecambe,maybe as a stop over to the lakes. Thanks again and the opening scenes and music was ace. That intro 😍 was really artistic - you're so accomplished at those moody yet beautiful shots, and having (the God that is) Morrissey as the accompanying music is F A B U L O U S 💫🙌. Helen that dress is so gorgeous! As for the gentrification of the seaside towns ( you missed a trick there James - 'Everyday is like Sunday ' by Mozz describes seaside towns perfectly) it's really sad. They say it's progress, but I think they are ripping out the character of those towns and England as we knew it, it's gone. So sad 😢. Great video as usual - you two are a tonic. Thank you for taking us with you 😊✌

Well done guys for soldiering on ,,,sterling job in those conditions ,,,the Eden project is one of cornwalls biggest attractions housing flora & fauna from all over the world set in 5 massive bio domes including a tropical rainforest,in the summer it also hosts concerts Robbie Williams being one of many who have performed there,,,unfortunately the season for holidaymakers in the uk is not on par with the sunnier parts of Europe where people tend to take their winter breaks as it’s often cheaper than staying at home ( switch the heating off for a fortnight lol ) 👍🏽

Loved the editing of this vlog agree with comments below. There is an Eden Project in Cornwall, its some large domes with tropical plants in it so they will probably keep the palms you filmed in Morcombe. Great content as always, keep vlogging 🙂

Great Vlog loved the intro,, Shame about the weather maybe pencil in a return visit in the summer? The sunsets over the bay are amazing to see. Wish i had known you were in town i would have bought you n Helen a pint :) One of the reasons for the poor Conditions in Morecambe is when Lancaster took control over Morecambe and the surrounding areas. The majority of any funding was spent in Lancaster to the detriment of everyone else and it's still happening now. :(
