Morel-Lavallée Lesion Aspiration and Sclerotherapy 

I was just diagnosed with a MLL but it has taken 45 days, 2 ER visits, 1 primary care visit and a visit to an orthopedic surgeon to reach that diagnosis. The diagnosis finally came today by a radiologist after an MRI was ordered because it is near my knee so it was believed to be a meniscus tear or ACL tear. Doctors did multiple x-rays but never an ultrasound even though my leg was deep purple from hip to ankle and swelling was apparent just minutes after the fall. I am in nearly constant moderate to severe pain without any relief. It is considered a larger lesion as it exceeds 70cm3. I still haven't heard from the orthopedic surgeon but will be calling him tomorrow morning. I appreciate seeing this very straightforward explanation of an MLL and it's management.

I misdiagnosed a Morel Lavallee lesion thinking it were a hematoma. Now I will be more careful owing to the effective but simple to understand explanation. Amazing efforts Dr Vinay. Thank you.

I’ve only treated these surgically. If you do use a doxycycline sclerosing agent, do you typically restrict the patients activity along with the compression dressing?

Orders were to use compression and ice, but after much research and discovering this video, I would like to know how much time I have to have this procedure done? I live in Houston,Texas and looking for a Dr. who is qualified to perform this procedure. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I just had the lesion on my hip . Hopefully its the same procedure

On May 2nd I sustained the Morel Lavallee lesion after a freak accident where my truck slipped gears and rolled backwards while I was between the door and truck itself. This has been by far the worst things that has ever happened to me. It’s incredibly painful and my injury has been difficult to manage. I currently have a drain in my leg after two large surgeries didn’t do much for me.

Thankyou Dr. I have one as well, mine is large also on my posterior lateral upper thigh to buttocks region because I fell sliding down 13 stairs on my side the whole way. Mine has been misdiagnosed so many times its now 6 months old. It started like your patient, with it like water rippling when pushed, but now mine is more like a hard capsule under the fat. Not like water ripple anymore. Question, is it still fluid under this hard outer capsule? And is it possible to fix these with just draining? Or does the fibrous capsule mean i will need to have full surgery?

Sir why not performing this procedure with ultrasound guide. I think through ultrasound guide it will be more easy to aspirate fluid with more accuracy.

Sir I am suffering from moral levelle lesion in thigh area. Twice aspiration has been done. No sclerosion given. Doing compression bandage since 25 days. But still it's not recovered completely. Whenever I stopped doing compression just for a day swelling again started. Please guide

What does one do when even your orthopedic surgeon doesnt have enough knowledge about this type of injury and youve seen five doctors about it and no one will help you. Ive had a drain for three weeks straightand even then nothing helped after draining over 750 ml the first time.. and with the drain 50 ml every 8 hours. They took the drain out it keeps refilling. No one will help me and even the radiologist says “i dont know what a morel lavellee lesion is” …. I want to jump off a cliff now.

I have done phd in this lesion being a engineer … no doctor wants debride it … its now a hard pseudocapsule and skin above is numb maybe that lesion is pressing it …. Plsss help im soo depressedddddd…. Nobody knows about this and are arrogant
