Earlier today, Morgan held its 2020 Matriculation Convocation, when the university officially welcomes and celebrates the incoming class of new students at the University. Given the recent civil unrest that we have had in our country Dr. David Wilson, Morgan's President, requested for the choir to sing “Glory” from SELMA during the event.
The Morgan choir originally performed “Glory” in 2016 at the Murphy Fine Arts Center during the premiere of Dr. James Lee's new piece entitled A Mother’s Lament, a work that depicts the pain and anguish of parents who have lost their children to street violence. Since then the Morgan choir has traveled the world performing "Glory" at various official ceremonies and events such as the 2017 home-going celebration of comedian and civil rights activist Dick Gregory.
Although the song is powerful in its original form, we decided to virtually perform a “REMIX” of the piece with a lyricist feature.
We premiered this arrangement earlier today during the 2020 Matriculation Convocation.
