Freeman is totally right. It doesn't matter when the results are trash. A black person can be mayor but its the community that has to change. One reason the black community have issues is because a lot of black people are looking for a 'saviour' instead of saying 'I will change it".

What he is saying, is what Blacks have been saying for a long time. Police brutality is nothing new it's been going on for decades. The reason people are getting to see it now, is because of the technology like cell phones. Folks can now pull out their phones press record and say " Hey look at this!" The media, is just playing it to the world. There is no embellishing, it's a real problem and it's been happening way to long.

+mjmonjure How do you find qualified police officers in a neighborhood riddled with crime and drugs.
@StrokerAce3983
@StrokerAce3983 8 лет назад
People that live in low poverty and high crime areas. Are probably going to be more hesitate about becoming a police officer. Because of bullshit that they see going on in their neighborhood. This is my opinion about what could help the officers and the community that they are assigned to patrol. What the officers should do when they are in between calls or when they have some down time. Is get out of the patrol car and start going to the people's homes and introducing themselves to the people in that community. And just don't do that one time is enough and that it. The officers should continue that process of going around and talking to those people. Because thats how relationship/friendships and most importantly TRUST is created. If the police would try that out it might just make a difference. It's worth trying what do we have to lose by trying that? nothing at all.
@mjmonjure
@mjmonjure 8 лет назад
+wizardxyz You start first by assuming that not everyone in the neighborhood is a criminal or a drug addict. I am saying that they should be from the local area. Surely city or state government could sponsor a program to identify candidates in high schools and subsidize college tuition with confiscated drugs and cash. If you don't get young people into higher education pipeline, there is no recovery for some neighborhoods, with our without the right police. But one thing that surely is not the answer is shipping cops in from the suburbs who are totally unfamiliar with the people and who bring their prejudices with them. This is a sure recipe for trouble. Its easier to find cops that will work in the neighborhood and who understand the neighborhood than it is to hope that cops from outside of the areas will be fair and just when they are scared shitless of getting their head blown off.

Yes. Exactly. Cops are going in blind; they have no idea what criminals are capable of, and no time to ask or find out. If someone is not being cooperative, that could mean ANYTHING. The person could be working up the courage / waiting for the right moment to attack. Cops need to protect themselves above all else, then the law. Why in the hell would cops want to live next door or even in the same neighborhood with same people that they have to arrest, write tickets and court summons to, break up tense domestic violence situations daily,... Why would cops want to place their family and children's welfare and safety in jeopardy by moving into the same area that drive-by gang banging a-holes shoot up with complete disregard...And when the cops go there to investigate, no one saw/heard/knows anything and there is no cooperation to be found lest one be labeled a snitch. How could the cops even feel comfortable parking their personal cars on the street without having to hope the next time they go outside it isn't vandalized, all the while knowing full well no one would cooperate with the investigation to catch the culprits (who would, statistically speaking, be likely to be let off easy). The cops deal with the criminal and sometimes mentally unstable elements of society non-stop while they are on duty in these neighborhoods. I find it difficult to believe any cop would willingly subject himself or his family to that kind of risk just to please some social justice warriors who will still hate them for the uniform they wear and cast dispersions against them at every opportunity. I'm all for community policing and relationship building but this whole woke crowd needs a bucket of cold reality poured on them.

Maybe people should start being encouraged to LISTEN to the police when given instructions instead of mouthing off, running away, or getting belligerent in the course of an arrest, detainment or questioning. This idea that blacks just get killied out of thin air at random for no apparent reason is getting old. Do you want to stop police brutality today, its easy, cities need to stop using the police department as a source of revenue and holding them responsible for not meeting a quota based on gaining said revenue. This act alone forces police officers to be more aggressive in finding criminal activity at all costs as their jobs are on the line. In extreme cases even Forcing an officer to manufacture crimes where none existed to meet said quota.

Wrong. That is the way to talk about it in a way that doesn't trigger the sensibilities in some non-blacks. If data and history prove that the problem has a discriminatory affect along racial lines ........ then it's actually worse & deserves distinction. In fact, one could argue that we. as a country, owe much of our progress to black protesting. So, how long do you think it would've been till your Innocent Lives Matter protest became an actual thing? My guess would be, far too late for black Americans.

NetherTaker .... No, what you’re actually doing is using the data by preference and excluding everything that’s relevant to the overall situation. This is nothing more than an acknowledgement that you’re not truly interested in finding truths. Confirming your biased position underlines your stance, even if you believe otherwise. One giveaway is your claim of being a data driven individual. If that were remotely true, you would’ve already known and considered all the other recorded data, studies, and historical information pertinent to any possible racial disparities claim made in this country. Too much has already been established as proven and necessary context on these particular subjects. If all you required was data, then you’d already know that the things you’ve suggested as evidence don’t hold up. I could post a hundred links to match yours, but that too serves no purpose because in your ultimate opinion none of it really matters. For now, at least. That’s on you. Unfortunately, I’ve had way too many of these same types of debates to have another any time soon. Good luck

I say, the police work for the public, therefor all of them should be forced to wear bodycams. But you have to take that one step further, they need to hook up to immediate upload to a public, secure server so that there cannot be any "hiding" of the video from their shift. This will both protect the police, and the public. If their body cam suddenly has "technical" issues, and for some reason turns off, or anything else during an incident, they need to be suspended upon an investigation. If this happens say 3 times, they need to be fired. Not all police are bad, the majority is good. But we are running into the issue of unprecedented militarization of the police, and a lack of training. As well as the lack of proper psychological evaluation before they get the job. If we had a system as I stated above, where the video is public, where the video cannot be lost, destroyed, or hidden by a sly DA through legal loopholes. That would benefit everyone.

Wow i just had an epiphany: i think the racism issue is kind of mirrored in the Schrodingers Cat experiment in that in the same sense that by "opening the box" you kill the cat, by talking about race as an issue and bringing it up you are in effect making it a problem

if your "epiphany" applicable to other scenarios (voter fraud, capitol murder, laundering etc.)?

Yeah it's a paradox that you can't solve the problem without bringing more attention to it, thus potentially amplifying it.

I like Freeman but in regards to very poor and violent communities: good luck on having police officers live in the very places they enforce the law. There homes and family would never be safe.

The only thing camera did is show that almost all shootings were justified and that they were resisting before they were shot ....... Just saying

I've always said police should be from neighborhoods they serve, more blacks in black communities just makes sense!

Then they can call each other "nigga," their favorite word, and can sell each other drugs. Keep it in the community. Go for it!

@@henrystrauss168 wow! NOT what I meant at all! Attitudes like yours is what keep things stirred up! I meant that black officers might have more in common with the community than white officers, and that may mean more trust.

Morgan is an actor with a great voice. Take away the voice and he doesn't even act for a living. He knows nothing about the people in Baltimore.... He has been living in wealthy suburbia for more than half of his life. He is a rich guy who is scared to death of the blacks in Baltimore. So here he comes to Charlie Rose to teach the lessons to Whitey.....his next door neighbors. Charlie......go find an articulate black guy who lives in Baltimore....on one of the streets with the fires and destruction. If you can't find one there.........accept that you have been given the answer to all of your problems. Freeman is worse than a fraud.....he is one who must be politically correct or his career and fame would suffer. You'll get no wisdom from him. I'll give you a great idea. Send one of your peons to Baltimore and have him go to the schools and interview teachers. Have him find three of them who came to teach in Baltimore AFTER teaching in a nice "republican" neighborhood in the suburbs. Put them on the show and ask them your questions....and don't coach them like you did old Morgan Freeman. Just let them talk....and shut up. If you can't do that Charlie Rose....YOU ...are a fraud.

As soon as someone interjects their political affiliation into a non political discussion I immediately lose respect for the argument.
