Watch these amazing Morgan horses and their riders compete in Class 71 at the Carousel Charity Horse Show held in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The Morgan horse has always been one of my favorites, so I was glad to see a few classes of them at this horse show in 2023. And it's a joy to see young riders riding these Morgan horses to become the next generation to work with show horses.

Equitation is 75% rider, 25% horse. Last time I showed. But that was 2007.

That's good to know, and like I said in the video, I wasn't sure about that. I'm guessing it's still that way.

What absolutely gorgeous horses, those tails! I couldn't possibly pick a winner. I know you said it's being judged on the riders, but it's so hard for me to take my eyes off those horses!

About the second question the canter is suppose to be a calm collected gait and down correctly slower than the trot! Of course sometimes your horse is gonna get a bit speedy but over all a slow gait.

Equitation is judged on the rider’s position and how well they can control their horse and regulate speed as well as if they are in the bridle.

I reminder Justin Morgan Had a Horse 🐴😁! So wonderful that young folks are still riding and working with horses and hope that never stops 🤩I guessed that the 1st and 2nd place finishers would be in the top 3 🏆

Are these movements safe and natural for the horse?
@MagnificentHorses
@MagnificentHorses 8 месяцев назад
Yes, that's how they naturally move.😊
@ponygirl1716
@ponygirl1716 8 месяцев назад
It's just an elevated, collected version of the natural gaits. What bothers me are the saddles that have the riders sitting much further back than they should be.
@MagnificentHorses
@MagnificentHorses 8 месяцев назад
@@ponygirl1716 yes, the saddles sit way back on the horse. I'm sure you know that that's to also help the horses have a more flashy gait.
@ponygirl1716
@ponygirl1716 8 месяцев назад
@@MagnificentHorses No, I hadn't heard that. I'm not a saddler, but I don't think you have to sit way back like that to free up a horse's shoulders.
@MagnificentHorses
@MagnificentHorses 8 месяцев назад
@@ponygirl1716 I think it does actually give their gaits more movement. But I'm not a big fan really. I do jumping and our saddles or even termed "forward seat" because the last thing you want to do in jumping is to be behind the horse. Trust me, I know that from personal experience!😱😂

I have that movie! Morgans are so beautiful and versatile. My favorite breed. Though I do love all horses. The only thing I don't like is when they let their tails grow so long they drag on the ground. But that's just me, I guess. Thank you for uploading these wonderful videos! 🤠

You're welcome and I love those Morgan horses, too! For me it's about a three-way tie between them and saddlebreds and Arabians. Thanks for your comment and I'm glad you are enjoying the videos!

I don't think these Morgans are anything like Figure and the original breed. They've had too much infusion of the peacock breeds. Too light and thinly built. Remember that in addition to being fast, Morgans could also hold their own logging and plowing. These horses are pretty, but have got away from the versatile conformation of the original.
@MagnificentHorses
@MagnificentHorses 8 месяцев назад
@@NavvyMom I'm not sure they're more fragile than the original breed that was like Figure, but I think they have gotten bigger over the years. Figure was a very small horse, which made his accomplishments that much more remarkable. It would be very interesting to see these horses try their hands--or hooves, as the case may be--at pulling logs.
@MagnificentHorses

@@NavvyMom I do have another video that shows Morgans pulling buggies. Here is the link if you (or anyone else) wants to check it out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1x50YZoOpys.html

@@MagnificentHorses The change in conformation has only occurred within the last 50? or so years. I remember Morgans being more substantially/thicker built even back when I was a little kid. The Breyer model that came with Marguerite Henry's book "Justin Morgan Had a Horse" on which the movie was based is more like the old body type. I don't know that "fragile" is the word I should use to describe the newer type, but definitely leaner/lighter. I suppose the people who created this type would call it "refined". And yes, taller. I doubt they could pull logs as well as the older type. but they could surprise me.

Morgans are beautiful horses... but why do they make them carry their necks so unnaturally in shows? It is quite jarring. It makes their beautiful heads look pinched and disproportionate.
