Seconds out! It's round two of our Car v Bike battle series, and this week Jethro Bovingdon puts the BMW R Nine T against the Morgan Plus 8 Speedster. Which is quicker? Watch the video to find out!
Yeah, i'm mainly a car guy, though recently building some bike interest. What they're doing here seems quite, unprofessional. And it's in partnership with a bike-based company too. They seem to be going for more of an.. asthetics way of choosing here it seems. Both the NineT and the Morgan have beamer engines, and they both look sorta retro. But the NineT isn't a sport bike, in the slightest. Very bad match, imo.
Sir Lord Baron Von Nico Ogentor what next EVO, a BMW M3 v BMW K1600 because they both have BMW 6 cylinder engines ? What about an R1200GS v an X5M ? or hows about you put a BMW S1000RR up against what ever you guys wanna bring
Mclaren P1 vs BMW s1000rr or Ducati 1199 superleggera. The Mclaren would murder them both and then you would complain about price, am I right? You forget 4 massive tires = 4 massive contact patches which helps you put all that power to the ground and corner faster.... that's before you factor in aero downforce.
***** The speed test itself is just an excuse for them to talk about these vehicles though - apparently still with heavy focus on the car. I'm fine with that.
Hi, it's not a Lotus steering wheel. The new wheel has been manufactured in house by Morgan just for the BMW engined cars, it was launched at Geneva earlier this year. The new wheel has meant that paddle shift can now be chosen therefore enhancing the driving experience. Cheers
It's weird to see the Morgan drifting so much considering the tires it was on. Were they the regular or R-compound AD08's? I love the steelies though, the car looks the business with them!
I realize that since I'm running AD08R's on my car, but that's the way people seem to differentiate the two. Although I'm pretty sure you can still buy the regular or mk1 Neova's despite the introduction of R's or mk2's.
***** Yeah I'm pretty sure you can buy both. I've been looking into them too once I get new tires on my car. Just been reading info about them off of TireRack haha.
The bike isn't for taking to the track it' a beautiful classic design with great everyday use and weekend fun. Not everyone wants a sports bike which can be uncomfortable to ride more than an hour that's why standards and adv bikes have become more popular than the sports bike.
I didn't read the title carefully and I thought you matched a Morgan 3-wheeler against the bike and I thought "Hey, that's unfair on the car" but when I saw what the Morgan was, I thought "Hey, that's unfair on the bike". For all its antiquity, the car has an incredibly powerful engine, and it's pretty light too boot. I mean, it's pretty close to the F-Type that was raced last time. I think the bike guys are being outsmarted in their choices by the sly EVO testers. Don't get me wrong, I love the series, keep them coming!
What will we have next week, Harley Davidson chopper vs Dodge Viper. This weeks bike, just like last weeks never stood a chance. Sit up and beg unfared .bikes with limited ground clearance have a huge handicap, and the bike had no chance from the get-go.
What's this? You kinda dressed up like a power ranger to drive the Morgan? Oh, and bad choice for the bike. The Morgan is just a sports car with classic looks.. the Nine T is NOT a sports bike with classic look.
Having owned both a BMW motorcycle and a Morgan +4, the test seemed fun and appropriate. I was surprised at how close the bike came to the car. Track times at most race tracks in the western US favor cars. There is more sliding room for cars while the bikes can't make use of their maneuverability or greater acceleration. Might not be the case elsewhere. I don't know about elsewhere, only the tracks I been on. With comparable power to weight, cars have an advantage on a 2.5 mile road course. A fun test nonetheless.
Im a biker and driver and this is the first time i heard of BMW having a bike called BMW R9T.. This is also the first time i realise there is a car maker called morgan. Thank you evo for education video about this less popular bike.
Lol "murdered" the bike... 2 secs less for a ballad oriented bike (bad ground clearance, soft suspension). This guy have such an obsession with "cars vs bikes" tests just to flatter his ego whenever the car wins... Both are great. These tests are a bit silly : why making a cleavage between 2 and 4 wheels ? Enjoy both is too hard ?
I love how this is the only place (other than on the road) I've found the truth about motorcycle ABS: 0.85 G versus 1+G for the driver. On my CBR, on proper tires I could do 0.8G's on slick -Greek- city streets without ANY fear of lockup or requirement for attention. On American tarmac I had no fear of lockup up to 1+ G's and the rear coming up. This system cuts in at 0.85G's on perfect grippy tarmac ...
The BMW link is a bit tenuous for putting these two in a CarVsBike vid. I think a Thruxton would have been a better choice. Both models are modern takes on British models with the highlight on retro design cues.
9 out of 10 bike vs car races are traffic light gran prix. Bikes always win in the real world as I've NEVER been beaten by a car EVER. Good race though!
Ducati Monster 1200 would of been a better bike choice if you ask me, not even because it may of meant the bike could of come out on top but purely because its more like the car in comparision terms
Thanks evo for another great video but the track is very car biased. I am not sure any bike will win around your track against a decent performing car.
If you have enough money to buy them, you succeeded your life. The Morgan looks and sounds awesome, and the R Nine T is awesome. Eventhough the Morgan is as practical as a bike (no roof). So, buy the bike :) + The morgan needs a manual gearbox !
Well considering that the bike was built as a Roadster Cruiser, and all around fun, l fail to see how it was murdered. 2 second differance. l'd say it did awesome
I'm a biker, and evne ride a BMW, and I like this comparison a lot. I'm slightly surprised that the car is faster, but I really don't think any R9T rider has chosen this bike because it was faster, and neither would a Morgan driver care if any bike appeared to be faster. I reckon both are fantastic fun to drive, and who cares that there's always some car or bike that's faster than yours. If you just want the fastest, you'll end up with a plane. The point is that you drive your vehicle as fast as you can, and explore the limits. And if that particular vehicle makes such good noises as the R9T and the Morgan while doing that, you have a winner. What bothers me though, is that EVO gives very little attention to the bike. We don't get to hear the sound, or get any impression of how it is to ride. It all seems rather set up to prove their point that cars are faster. Come on guys, give us some more specs, and some footage from the rider's point of view! And keep up the good stuff!
The v8 that Morgan uses is outdated but it suites their cars very well. It will be a sad day when they go to smaller engines for their more sportier models. :(
On what basis are motorcycles being chosen? Just because Morgan and NineT have BMW engines and both are retro looking, they compete ? DISMAL motorcycle choices by Evo, no wonder the Car pips em everytime. Yawnfest
The car "Murdered" the bike when the difference was only 2 seconds? I don,t think so the BMW is designed to cruise not for the track whereas look at the power of the Morgan (Not to mention the difference in the price) What car price is only £12K ? Ridiculous comparison, be putting a Harley chop against an Audi R8 next..
How about upping the auntie a bit and have a car and bike thats closer in price ?. That Morgans so basic there cant be much more to it than a bike Its about time Morgan made a modern looking car ,instead of being stuck in the 1940s.That Morgans got a modern engine in it ,which is tuned to give max horsepower ,yeh so has the bike ,but its been detuned to give a more retro power output .Detune the morgan to a retro output and it probably wouldnt go over 60 mph Dont really know about Morgans but this is probably there fastest road car ,the bike is not BMWs fastest road bike Put a BMW RR against then see what happens ,you can then buy a modern car with the £70k+ you still have in the bank .Besides how many people can afford £85k for that Morgan ,or would even want to spend that much on a car
Hey guys, would you want to see a good review or comparo of some BMW, Porsches, Ferraris, Maseratis? Well fuck you, here's a wooden piece of shit against a bike, which you dont care about because you're a car enthusiast. Join us next week when we compare a Morgan to a plane. What, you dont care about planes? Well fuck you.
The BMW's anti lock brakes suck. I have a R1150RT with these powered horrible anti lock shite. I took it off regained my braking control and lost about 7 Kg under the tank. What a difference! Never back!
The RNine T was designed to look good. Period. Its a rich hipster bike. No one buys that bike to ride aggressively. You can see how it wobbles out of the corners on the gas. Is not that I'm but hurt that bikes are zero for two but at least make the competition fair. Not just to look like it is to car guys ignorant of bikes. I like the idea of this channel and I don't expect bikes to win every time no matter what . But if it turns out to be just bias BS to massage car guys egos count me out...
I'd be quicker round there on my BMX than on that BMW pos. Weighs a ton? Check. Makes no power? Check. Ground clearance of a Harley Bagger? Check. Poor choice for a comparison.
The reality is the car can never win no matter what it is if you use a mclaren and beat a 1000cc then all the power rangers mention price if you use a car or bike like this what isn't the peak of performance then both sides say its not fair and then you get a knob biker saying things like four wheels move the body two wheels move the soul a ramble on about bikes.everyone would have a porsche or ferrari if they could but they can't so they settle for a bike.including me.
another unfaired bike, another win for the car, I see a pattern forming here, you keep picking bikes that will lose... hows about letting the bikers pick their own stead
I don't know why people are moaning so much, cars ARE faster than bikes! That's just how it is, that's why the fastest car has over 20 seconds on the fastest bike around the Nurburgring!
That's because the nurburgring is way more popular in the car world... i don't think there have been many days where a motoGP bike could do a hot lap. As for 'regular drivers', in fact it's a motorbike that's fastest: bridgetogantry.com/2/index.php/btg-laptimes/bridge-to-gantry-laptime-table I'm not saying a 2 wheeled machine is faster than a 4 wheeled machine. A car will always have the advantage of aero - there's no bike faster than a F1. However if you look at the consumer market things are very different. The most expensive consumer bikes are about $30000 (if you don't count custom editions like Panigale Superleggera) and almost any $15000 superbike can be faster than any regular porsche, ferrari etc.
You have to compare like to like. bridgetogantry.com/2/index.php/btg-laptimes/bridge-to-gantry-laptime-table See the fastest lap there? 17 seconds over the next best time. Get a real hoot out of the video for that. Bikes are not even allowed to run closed course laps on that track, so b to g will have to do.
Who the hell buys these piece of shit Morgans to keep this company alive? I keep seeing them pop up in British magazines and shows but nobody outside GB gives a crap about them. And rightfully so.
Evo forgot to mention that the car comes with an engine BMW made obsolete back in 2010. Sadly, Morgan ordered too many of them in 2009 and can't still haven't managed to get rid of them. The Roadster is their latest attempt to find some configuration that will sell. I imagine they will try a V8 Trike next.
At no point in the design of the RNine T was racetrack performance even discussed much less taken in to consideration. Thats a bike for rich hipsters to pose on. You are losing credibility racing a sportscar made to look retro vs a bike designed to look pretty parked.
