Mi’kmaq fiddler and singer Morgan Toney brings together the fiery fiddling of Cape Breton Island and the old songs of the Mi’kmaq with brilliance and heart. Since his Celtic Colours debut, performing with Ashley MacIsaac during the opening concert of 2020, the 22-year-old Mi’kmaw performer’s career has really taken off. He released his debut album, First Flight, which was nominated for three East Coast Music Awards and won two-Indigenous Artist of the Year and Inspirational Performance of the Year, has been featured on CBC radio, and had a mini documentary made about his music at the International Indigenous Summit. Combining his Mi’kmaq roots with his love for Cape Breton Celtic tunes, Morgan has made a fresh new connection between the two traditions.
