NIHIL!! Edit(3/26): Clarifications on the video. Thanks to everyone who pointed out certain ideas and confusing bits in the video: First, the origin of the omens with the Loathsome Dung Eater, this at best is a theory and I'll be honest a pretty weak theory from me, I included it because there really just isn't that much solid written down in-game information about how the first Omens came to be. The only ones I could find were all the Omen related stuff with Dung Eater (Seedbed Curse/His Armor/His Dialogue) he also states that he has killed thousands, so he's been at this for a while. Second, the opening cinematic where Morgott was fighting what looked like a soldier in Radahn's armor. I believe that this is simply a champion of Radahn or something similar. I didn't feel the need to hyper focus on that because that's the only scene we have of that moment and there's no item descriptions that talk about that. So I left it at "He killed countless champions". oh and 1 last thing, the Dung Eater is NOT an anti-hero, he's twisted beyond sanity. But hey as you can see in my profile picture, I have horns too, maybe I'm an Omen~~~ Thank you!

That was only an illusion, it's not actually Mohg. You can tell because it doesn't bleed, frostbite, get poisoned, etc. Maybe it was Mohg who made the illusion, though it'd make more sense if it was Morgott who did so. Morgott has every reason to block the entrance to the Three Fingers, Mohg doesn't.
@Ardiar21
@Ardiar21 2 года назад
@@Nezxmi It could be that Mohg made that illusion in order to trick people into believing that he's still down there, imprisoned/or guarding his post as most omens should be. Either that or maybe he still somewhat has a sense of duty, since I'm not sure if it's been stated if he has any disdain to the golden lineage, especially since his twin brother's territory is just above the sewers.
@Nezxmi
@Nezxmi 2 года назад
@@Ardiar21 If we look at the greater context I think Mohg does have disdain for the Golden Order, though maybe not it’s lineage. Mohg worships the Formless Mother, a separate Outer God from the Greater Will. He also wishes to become consort to Miquella, another person who wishes to replace the Golden Order. So it wouldn’t make much sense for him to protect the Golden Order, indirectly or otherwise. I figure it’s gotta be Morgott creating the illusion as he cares about the Golden Order more than any other Demi-God and is the only one who would know of Mohg anyway.

Rather than having his cursed name tied with the Erdtree, Capital, and the throne, I believe Morgott had wanted to keep a low profile when he wasn't actively governing the Leyndell Capital, which is why he subtly changed his name to Margit. This can be evident from Gideon Ofnir's dialogue when giving information about Morgott. He refers to Morgott as Lord of Leyndell, meaning that it may be widely known that whoever has control of the Capital is someone named Morgott. Gideon also states that "The Veiled Monarch can wait" meaning that nobody knows who Morgott is or what they look like. Though you could still definitely be right about Morgott not wanting his Omen cursed name publicly associated with the Capital. Morgott is a high profile name, meaning that he could potentially be hunted down by any Tarnished or even by the other shardbearers. Margit though, is an unknown name. Name of an Omen, and one of a championed warrior who is at Stormveil Castle guarding the weakest shardbearer, Godrick the Grafted.

If you read a bunch of the incantation descriptions along with the weird tumor thing you can get from the Albinauric village you're given a pretty clear picture of what Omens are. They're people blessed by the primordial source of the Erdtree's power. The "Primordial Crucible" which is basically pure chaotic life energy. The horns grow on them like tumors, and beings touched by the crucible grow weird mouthy tails like the one Margit has, or the ones the Crucible Knights copy when they do the tail spin miracle attack at you. The descriptions also say that in the past, when the Erdtree was recently discovered, people marked with these growths, horns and tumors were considered blessed by the Erdtree. They were seen as marked by the power of life itself, but over time, as civilization took hold and people began to abandon the old, shamanistic worship of the Erdtree in favor of an organized religion, marks of chaos became stigmatized and hated by the people of the Lands Between. As a result they started killing, hunting or otherwise shunning and hiding these people away. Again, wanna say that this isn't a theory I made up, but is actually what you can find in item descriptions for the game. In the past the people of the Lands Between were in touch with chaos and raw life energy but over time became more organized and started shunning people who bore the "blessings" of their old faith. Kind of sucks honestly. If Margit/Morgott and Mohg had been born hundreds of years ago they'd basically all have been treated like Prophets or Saints.

This is spot on, I have been spreading the same information whenever I see lore speculation on The Crucible or Omen not making the connection. The Crucible talismans mention that aspects of The Crucible showing up are a sign of "devolution" and the Misbegotten have been enslaved for somehow making contact with The Crucible and gaining some of its aspects. The Omen are a sign that the Erdtree is making mistakes in the eyes of the nobility, for even children of the Eternal Queen can be "cursed" with these aspects from birth. The Crucible being life in its primordial form is most likely the oldest form of life we know, Ancient Dragons. Scales, horns, tails, wings, fire breath. I also speculate that Beasts are primordial life as well, the Misbegotten sure do seem incredibly beastial..

I got a theory on what omens might be; since omens are born at random, it's possible that the souls of beings who were cursed during their previous lives ended up possessing the bodies of fetuses before the greater will granted them a soul. (since the dung eater says that cursing and defiling his victims prevents their souls from being "returned" to the erdtree). to further extrapolate on that, it could also be that tarnished are those borne without receiving their soul from the greater will, as well as those who fall out of favor with the erdtree like we see with Godfrey.

I just beat Mohg for the first time today (I’m on NG+ but completely skipped him in NG), and he’s by far one of my favorite bosses in the game. Everything about him is incredible: the voice acting, the design, the boss arena, the lore, the actual mechanics, the OST… just incredible. You genuinely can’t be overlevelled when fighting him. If you don’t pay maximum respects when facing him, you’ll get your ass kicked, especially if you don’t take advantage of both tools the game gives you earlier in the game to help you out.

i love how these teo are polar opposites of response to trauma/oppression. Morgott falls into the ideas pushed on him, learning to hate himself more and more, dedicating himself fully to his oppressors. Mohg refuses to hate himself, to hide himself away. Instead he draws power from what supposedly curses him, carving a new life were his imperfections are sacred. A real shame about the blood murder cult.

Why is Morgott titled "The Grace Given?" This seems pretty important to cover. The game repeatedly says that Omens are denied Grace. If we interpret "Grace Given" to mean that he *was* granted Grace despite being an Omen, then we might be led to believe that Morgott's choice to defend the Erdtree was guided by Grace. But this opens up a HUGE can of worms. If Grace leads us to subjugate Marika and Radagon and become Elden Lord, why would Grace lead Morgott to defend the Erdtree and, importantly, to declare the other demigods as traitors? I suppose we can see it as the Greater Will pushing all great rune holders to fight for supremacy, but I don't know why he would then hold such disdain for the other demigods. One possible answer for which there's no evidence: the Greater Will, unable to directly guide the mind of Morgott due to his Omen curse, used his love for Marika and the Erdtree to manipulate the king into joining the War of the Shattering. But then, this still wouldn't warrant the title "Grace Given"--unless it's meant as a mockery, which would be truly sad for such a noble man. EDIT: Another possibility is that he's meant to be the "Grace-Given," with a hyphen. Meaning someone placed in the Lands Between by direct intervention of the Greater Will... which means Omenhood is from that particular Outer God.

I was under the impression that Mogh had a doppelganger at the Frenzied Flame not to protect it, but to decieve those who seek him out. (fake his own demise, while he tries to raise his own kingdom with his new God)
@EJ-yp3dx

My theory: Godfrey cheated on Marika with the Formless Mother. Mogh uses bloodfire abilities and Morgott’s boss weapon has a similar ability, which is derived from their birth mother. He hides that power in his petrified weapon and remains loyal to Marika, who doesn’t care for him. When Marika realized Godfrey hid his two love children under the city she banished him and split herself in two to make Radagon who could be a perfect husband to her.

You see an omen is a human at heart. They too crave human pleasures and desires. But their form disgusts normal humans. So what is the use of all that power and horns, if you are destined to die maidenless and lonely lol.
@anodyne4670

If you think of the Golden Linage as a sweet maiden's bosom that rejected them. You can see that Morgott turned into a simp while Mohg walked the path of incel's rage.

15:03 NOTE: ((no matter how much of his bloody bedchamber he tried to share)) Is an interesting expression. bloody bedchamber - has 3 meanings: 1- Male violent sexuality 2- Female duplicity in lurid deviousness. (aka. Leading someone to their death, by allure) 3- Location of murder in gothic novels. So... Yeah. Seems like an allegory for forced (relations)... lets call it.

Well done analysis, but you should do a 2nd part about the Omenkillers and evil perfumers working with them who hunt down Omens and kill them, who is behind them and why are they everywhere even in the capital itself, I have a theory that they are working for Ofnir but I haven't looked into it enough yet, this is just an impression I had from the quests I finished in my first playthrough.
@Dev_Six

I originally cast the word 'Omen' to mean in the actual meaning of the word, a prophecy of sorts, more often used in a negative sense. Margit was an ill omen of Morgott to anyone daring to challenge his authority.

It strange the two pairs of twins in the game the omen brothers and The maelenia twins have horrible physiology. Apparently in Shinto (Japanese Folklore) twins were seen as accursed and often in real life killed. Perhaps these two sets of twins refer to this Shinto idea of impurity.

"Omen babies born of royalty do not have their horn excised, but instead are kept underground" I sincerely hope that "royalty" is a translation error, and that it should be "nobility". Otherwise, wouldn't that mean that every Omen in the sewers of Leyndell is a son of Marika?

At 1:30, I think you've attributed that quote to the wrong party. That is not meant to be the Omen Bairn speaking, that is the parent speaking to the child. If the child dies then they will never be returned to the Erdtree, they hope such a scenario doesn't curse them. If the child survives then they may grow up to hate their parent for being born an Omen Bairn and for having their horns cut off, they also hope such a scenario doesn't happen.

Mohg, in the sewers, could have escaped just like "Margitt" did when we first meet him (after we break the seal by killing Morgot). Killing either doesn't seem to affect the other, though.. Makes me wonder if it is the same for any encounter with Morgot.

Same Morgott message is also displayed on the way to the Grand Lift to the north before killing Morgoth. So that's 2 same messages. Miyazaki wants you to be spurned by thorns first, without distractions. I personally believe it's a progression thing rather than a lore thing.

7:04 "And though margit would escape..." I don't think he's escaping. I think what we fought was some form of illusion or projection. I say this, because the version of him you find and fight outside the capital can be fought after you already beat him in the throne room and killed him for good there. Of coarse if might just be another bug... not the first one in this game with multiple copies of a character or them existing out of order in places...

I believe the "omen" is a natural occurring phenomenon long before the age of the dragons, as stated in the teachings of the crucible, which are the teachings of those who served directly under Godfrey and perhaps the king consort himself. But after Godfrey's campaign against the fire giants was over, and the rule of marika secured, Godfrey and his followers no longer serve a purpose, was subsequently devoid of grace and banished to war in a far away land and die. Under the sole rule of queen marika, all knowledge and teachings that don't pertain to the golden order are deemed heresy, horns and scales growths that were once a sign of divinity are now but an omen to be cast away.

Seems to me the curse of the omen might have something to do with the fate of the merchants and them cursing people of grace. Or a consequence of removing death from the world. Or bit of both. The true state of the golden order is the fingers combined and the existence of death. People and souls are trapped in undeath regardless of the omen with the broken state of things and deathroot manifests and seeps through the roots as a cause. The chain of renewal and recycling is broken.
