He's doing the real original aikido of Morihei Ueshiba. He was one of OSensei's favorite students. Saito was a rail worker, a slender young man, when he met OSensei. He lived at the dojo/shrine for decades and faithfully assisted OSensei in farming and in training. Early on, OSensei told him to start lifting a piece of track rail like a bokken. Good, hard, simple living, eating, working, and training with OSensei made him what he became and he remained strictly faithful to OSensei's aikido long after others changed.

Farmer, Railway Worker, Karateka, Judoka and Aikido genius. Incredibly strong and yet, quite gracious in his movement. That's what I strive for, but I'm quite convinced I won't get there in my lifetime :D Still, one must strive for perfection

He was a slender young man when he met OSensei, who advised him to lift a steel rail like a bokken. Not sure the length of the piece, but Saito started doing that and became a gentle monster. A holy man.

01:20 then here we see that Saito sensei actually had a knowledge of the "real fight" shorter movements than usual, faster and especially more efficient! There's nothing to say that you think you are in the face believe me it put you KO in 1 second ... for all fans of the UFC and other crap: that's a real fighter who has a fight " for real "and not in the ring with loud cries and mental defective with the help of an arbitrator when the" fight "goes wrong ... and everyone knows that Saito sensei to help as O sensei he had trouble with the Yakuza Iwama and the region. And there, at these "fights" no whistle referee blows for the end of combat eh ...

O Sensei was shot at by Chinese soldiers but they couldn't hit him. He was captured and they wanted to execute him but the soldiers got cold feet because Uyeshiba didn't flinch at death. Fighting with rules in front of cameras is not life and death combat.

When I watch videos of Aikido masters, I always get the feeling that they are faking it. With Saito Morihiro, I don't see that. His technique "feels" effective. I notice that he uses a lot of katai attacks from his ukemi. For those who don't understand what I mean: he allows the ukemi to get his hold without movement, thus making it much more difficult to do the technique. Both Takeda Sokaku and Ueshiba Osensei claimed that much "katai" was necessary. Hmmmm.

Morihei Ueshiba did teach different to each students character and physically build. To the sturdy Saito he did teach the older style. To his son Kisshomaru he did teach the modern aikido with its circular movements. Even Takeda is well known to teach different styles; the Aiki style to fragile students, and the stronger style with locks etc, to the more sturdy type. Morihei in his later years himself was obviously into the modern aikido that he did teach Kisshomaru. Just look at the clips of the elderly Osensei; its pure Aikikai and what Kisshomaru does. Its utterly absurd the old wives tale that Morihei suposedly didnt teach his own son, the successor of aikido, but only Saito. Lastly, Saito was aikikai until his death. All the agitating by his students he must turn in the grave. Lastly lastly, Takeda, what? Its old style, past, its the predecesor of aikido, but, its NOT aikido.
@kenwintin3014
@kenwintin3014 Год назад
@@JustMe-vz3wd Gee, you seem bitter that I brought up Takeda Sokaku. My goodness, are we "agitating? No one said that Daito Ryu is Aikido, and as for "old style" and "past"....without the old style and the past there would be no aikido. I quote Ueshiba Morihei, probably not exactly since I quote from memory, "The mountain does not call the river lowly nor does the river consider the mountain less because it cannot move."
@JustMe-vz3wd
@JustMe-vz3wd Год назад
@@kenwintin3014 Oh, so deep and wise, your quote! i am impressed. besides that, yes we know, no past no daito ryu, no aikido. daito ryu is magnificant, as Morihei said "daito ryu opened my eyes to true budo". my single point is stop your nonsense that "when i watch videos of aikido masters, i always get the feeling they are faking it." Stop admiring one aikido master (Saito) by putting other aikido masters down...

His technique is fantastic, and I have no doubt that he would drill me into the ground, but--I don't see the "Aiki" in it. Aiki in the In-yo sense, before anyone assassinates me for saying that Saito Sensei doesn't know Aikido.
@TalEl59
@TalEl59 2 года назад
"Aiki" just means harmonizing or blending with energy. In a practical sense it means get close and use the instrument of attack(usually the attacker's arm) against itself. Saito is doing just that!

@ruialmeida818
@ruialmeida818 4 года назад
what do you mean a resisting opponent? One that controls your movement when they grab? Because that's what they are doing. One that tries to punch you? In that case, the hard part is not to do an iriminage, it's to do an iriminage without taking the opponent's head off in the process (I've actually got a neck injury and lost my voice for about a week from an iriminage, and I'm quite good at defending myself, but being thrown with all that power is brutal).

@ruialmeida818 3 года назад
@@laumia2499 You'd be right if the movement wasn't centered. Besides, an iriminage isn't performed with the arm+shoulder, it's performed with the hip. The arm is merely disruptive. Irimi means "to enter".
@laumia2499
@laumia2499 3 года назад
@@ruialmeida818 I m so sorry but look again at 1'14-1'18 and dare you tell me the movement is centered!!??? I however do respectfully agree with your assertion concerning irimi nage : it is not performed with arm and shoulder (but with your core and whole body more than just your hips, I would say) and irimi means to enter :sure but look again at Saito Sensei at 1'14-1'18 :he is not centered, Uke is far from his core and Saito only uses his arm and shouder and a lot of strength AND last but not least hopefully for him, Uke are so compliant that they dont resist at all and on this 2 moves we can say they fall because they are expected to. I really like aikido, and I m truly sad that such a demo can be so worshipped...
@laumia2499
@laumia2499 3 года назад
Sorry but who can believe in effectiveness of aïkido when looking at this demo: for instance look at 1'15-1'17: the sensei does irimi nage without looking at his uke and with the uke behind him... Why? Because he knows that his ukes will kindly and gently do what they are expected to: follow the move and yes fall in order not to be injured. But Ukes are not allowed to have any initiative: they won t leave the grip and punch for instance: that s why it seems fake, even ludicrous sometimes... I precise I do practice aïkido. I truly like this martial inspired work but I m sorry in my opinion aïkido cannot be called a martial art. No offense.

@@laumia2499 Because i think that you don`t understand the techniques of the video. Saito is not doing randori, he is demostrating diferent ways of execute irimi nage,from katai keiko and ki no nagare: Morote-dori,ryote-dori(2 ways),yokomen-uchi and shomen-uchi. He is not doing oyo waza or randori.
@laumia2499
@laumia2499 3 года назад
@@MrSonOze I m afraid I understand too much the (lack of) technique I see there: if this is not randori then it s worse than I thought... : I see brutality, strength, lack of balance especially at 1'11-1'17(hopefully the 2 great Uke make him giving the illusion that he handles everything... ). If you see technique more than strength in this video then your judgement must be blinded by your faith. But I understand that, I used a few years to open my eyes too.
