Moringa: Sowing, growing, harvesting, drying the leaves

Leaves of the Miracle tree Moringa contain almost everything the human body needs. They are full of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and protein. A few teaspoon full of the leave powder added to the daily diet of children can help in fighting malnutrition in many developing countries. But even in the industrialized world Moringa leaf powder is increasingly used (and sold at high prices) as an valuable food additive for health-conscious people. Nearly every part of the tree can be used: as food (leaves and pods), as ingredient for cosmetics (moringa seed oil), as water purifier (seeds) and medicine (leaves & roots).

New idea for naturally drying leaves: break off but leave the stem attached, the sun will suck dry from the stem to leaves more natural efficiently. Cover the underneath for preventing leaves reaching dirts. Give it a try.

An absolute simple and yet essential tips. We had this tree in our backyard (Kenya) and yet had not idea about the benefit. There was this Indian woman who would come time to time and collect the drum sticks from the tree , i would climb and pluck for her. At last the tree was fallen down to make mote room. Recently i discovered the benefit of Moringa Oleifera so i have now planted about 100 Moringa trees in my farm and more to be planted. Thnx once again.

We grew the two species just for experimental reasons in the university. Wanted to know which grows better and faster, produces more leaves, etc. Both have the same properties, but the leaves of M. stenopetalia are a bit bigger and stronger, so for use as an vegetable the M. oleifera is preferred in the markets of South Sudan.

I am about to cultivate the tree here in Germany this year 2019. Have pre-grown some 40 trees indoors since February. They are now about 30 cm high to be planted in my garden during second half of May. Of course the tree will not survive the cold winter since it cannot tolerate temperatures below about 5 degrees Celsius (41 degrees Fahrenheit). However, I grow it in as an annual and hope that with a bit of good luck and if well protected with straw mulch it will sprout out in next season 2020. For this purpose, It should be cut down to about 50 cm in late Autumn.

1 You'll just have to boil water (2+ cups or depending on the amount of moringa leaves you have; we don't really measure, we just eyeball it). 2 Once it's boiling, you can put tied lemongrass stalks (optional but this makes so much difference!), chopped onions, garlic, tomato) 3. Flavor with salt and pepper while the water's boiling. 4. Pour coconut milk and let it boil once again. 5. You can add slices of eggplant or okra as well. Add more salt if you can't taste it. 6. Add in the malunggay leaves. You can also put a handful of spinach and chopped leeks or spring onion if you want. Moringa and spinach are sisters in most of our recipes. 7. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes or until the leaves are cooked (you can turn off the heat if you like the leaves to be a bit crunchy. This recipe varies from household to household but this is how my family does it for decades.

This is a very good video on Moringa. I'm not sure where you live, but here in Texas, we have freezing temperatures, and so it is a chore for the Moringa to survive the winter. Last year the winter wasn't too severe, and all I did was cover them so the roots would not freeze (the trunks of the trees froze, and I cut them back almost to the ground). You've done a lot more to harvest them than I have done, and I like how you explain cutting back the trees. I haven't done any of that. Mostly all I've done is grow them. Also, I have them all in pots, because if I plant them in the ground, the deer, sheep, goats, and cows will eat them all in one day. I need to build a fenced in area and plant them in the ground, because, as you can see, the plants are stunted from being in undersized pots with not enough room to grow. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ikc-21c71qk.html Here's one of my videos on my Moringa. I eat about a tablespoon or two of Moringa leaves per day (1 in the morning and 1 at night), and I can't say I've noticed any health benefits, but maybe I'm healthy enough that I don't have any room for improvement. I have noticed if I take too much, I have rather severe gastrointestinal problems, ie, diarrhea. When I took 1 tablespoon every 3 hours, totaling about 5-6 tablespoons per day, that's when it hit me.

It is caused by a build up of non digested animal proteins that accumulate in your joints. Try reducing animal protein. papaya and Tumeric should held because papaya breaks down proteins with papian, and Tumeric helps with inflammation. The moringa is an awesome source of vegetable protein, to give you the protein you need.

Hidden chemicals in the foods I ate have caused me pain. I stopped eating anything that has a label and my pain has reduced by 50 percent after 48 hours. Eat fresh fruits and sauté vegetables with EVOO. (Extra virgin olive oil) Drinking more filtered water without fluoride has helped my body to flush the chemicals out of my body.

I bought the seeds at anamed (Action for Natural Medicine) in Germany. Here is the link to the shop: www.anamed-edition.com/en/products.html I had harvested a lot of seeds of both species in South Sudan but left them there.

We in the USA also have malnutrition as developing countries do. Our food is grown in depleted soil.

I soaked my seeds over night. Planted them in the ground and they took off. (I live in Florida) I planted them in March and the plants are 6 feet tall. They grow so fast.

I also planted vegetables. Some of which had a bug infestation. Not the Moringa. If I forgot to water the garden, the other plants suffered, not the Moringa plants. If it rained a lot, they grew faster. This plant is awesome. Low maintenance. :-)

Thank you - I appreciate the info. I bought my first moringa tree three months ago and I am looking forward to it bearing the first pods of seeds so that I can grow more trees. Now I know how.

I planted from seeds into my garden in Singapore. It grows fast. The young leaves can be eaten raw. I will now experiment more with putting into my cooking. Thanks.
