I like Lea Michelle, I have never heard her sing it live like this, I think on youtube Ive seen her sing it in collab form live, and recorded form on Glee. Idina (original singer) and Lea have timbres that are similar, so many people are married to that sound and approach. I know most people want Lea to play Elphaba in the movie, (whenever that happens, they've been talking about it for years! Lol ) That being said, Morissette's voice is more weighty and rounded. It's her unique voice , and I personally love this on her. She actually has a background in musical theater. She has been singing this song for years. I've seen her rendition mixed into compilations for this song amongst Broadway singers (if you're into watching those types of things, I am lol) and she held her own. Obviously this comes down to opinion and I would never discount someones personal preference. Lea Salonga, is a big supporter of Morissette, even posting Morissette's performance of another Broadway selection on her Twitter. I fall in Salongas camp and I love this genre on Morissette. Feeling is subjective so one feels what one feels. I feel her here, but Im just one person as well. I will say she normally ends it differently, but perhaps this was the arrangement chosen for this function (fundraiser). Thank you for bringing her back to your channel and taking the time to react! Looking forward to more of her here!
watching these reactions is making me more cultured to music. I don't really watch/listen to Broadway singing, but now i will have to check out Lea Michelle. For me though Morissette performed it as great as the Leah would. Still like your reactions Miss. 💙✌
I like this version better. Morissette always make better versions of the songs she sang. Better than the original. A natural born singer indeed! More power Morissette!!!
Very impressive performance by the Phoenix herself Morissette Amon. Respect to your opinion and a great reaction. Keep doing a great job reacting to all your requests for more videos! Greetings from Washington state, USA. 😊
Yes girl thanks your nice reaction for this, dont worry to say something about this perf..each of us have different taste. yes we love U ,huge fan of Morissette here
I'm in the music business here in the states. I see and hear stupid comments all the time so this doesnt faze me. My only comment is when will Morissette do a major tour of the USA. We are waiting for her. 😁
Magnifique Missunnaturally, Bonne Année 2020, merci pour ce bonheur en 2019, avec cette nouvelle année nous aurons j'en suis sur de superbe vidéo , MERCIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Hello! Please include on your reaction list: LEA SALONGA, a Filipina musical singer, singing Defying Gravity, as well as, On My Own (Les Mesirables); MORISSETE AMON singing I Wanna Know What Love Is (Mariah Carey); MARCELITO POMOY singing The Prayer @ America's Got Talent. Thank you and More Power!
@@missunnaturally Careful....Thats going to be very dangerous! you could get a Copyright strike , National TV shows are totally off limits. Just Ask Reaction channel MA PRODUCTIONS.
There was another Mori cover of this song. I remember you reacted to her cover of She Used To Be Mine. That was actually a Stages presentation where she sang 8 songs from a musical. One of them was Defying Gravity. Thought you might wanna check that out, coz IMO, she was better than Idina Menzel there.
I, respect your opinion madam every one of us has it's taste of complementary judgement in any ways but I, know every people or we must say every individual has it's own distinction of expressing his own..
Yeah thst's no big deal its your opinion ! Coz, lot of youtube reactors who are also a vocal experts analyzed Morissette's portrayal is Amazing! of course everyone us entitled to each opinion like you do.
Hola! I think that's how you spell it.. anyway how do you feel about a song called "Nessun Dorma"? If possible can you react to the great U.S. singer, actor Mario Lanza singing it on the 1956 movie named "Serenade" starring Mario Lanza, Sara Montiel, Vincent Price.
I see lea michelle sing this live but his voice has no power like morissette..but shes a very good singer...ur ryt there is still have to improve to morissette singing musical song..thank you for your reaction, keep safe god bless
Please react to alisah bonaobra cover of defying gravity on wish bus or better yet at uk xfactor where you can see the kind of musicallity you envision (im aware u love musical theatre) from somebody to sing this song. Simon Cowell was impressed by Alisah. Gracias.
Perhaps, you need to listen instead to Morissette' "musical/ broadway version" of the song "Defying Gravity" for apple to apple comparison (not the pop music version).... Just a thought. Here's the link for your convenience... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Dmk6C8poAzw.html
If you don't mind, could you maybe explain exactly what you mean by " fell short with the Dynamics"? That is really very strange comment, could you explain?? I'm dying to hear this. Thanks...Waiting.....
I'm sorry but Lea Michelle cannot come close to Mori's tone and power and control. When did Lea ever perform this song LIVE in front of an audience and a live orchestra? Anyone can sound good in a controlled environment like a studio where producers can autotune and postprocess a singer's voice.
I know you love Lea Michellle but she is just copying the original --- she is not the oirigimal. You shoulsd listen to Idina Menzel -- Lea Miochelle did a good one on this song but she has no originality. She just copied the original pf Idina Menzel.
I normally don't engage ,its an opinion of whether you felt it or not.. I support the right, but oversang? Where? This musical is over 15 years old, I've seen a boatload of Elphabas delivering this song in my time, and absolutely NONE tip toe around this song. It's literally the climax of act 1 where the character finds out the Wizard is sinister and vows to avenge him. At the climax she's hoisted up above the stage with smoke and massive strobe lights where she delivers a final gutteral belt. This song is meant to be huge. Whether you felt it or not is personal not arguing that, but oversang, come on. To make my point here is an over ten minute compilation of not just Broadway Elphabas but other vocalist delivering the Climax,. No one is shying away. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sQUW0SmqqMs.html
OOCFM : First and foremost, I’m a huge Morissette fan and was raving about her years before the masses discovered her. I decided to replay the video and I must retract my “ oversang” statement because i wasn’t familiar with the musical and didn’t realize that her character at that point in the musical did require strong belting throughout. And upon second hearing must admit her vocal rendition was emotionally impactful and powerful. So I apologize to all her many deserving fans for my hasty and premature erroneous comment.

@@alfogel3298 I remember seeing your name around as a massive fan (being a fan doesnt mean we're stripped of our own preferences, so never would I tell someone what they love and prefer is wrong, definitely not doing so here) full disclosure, I'm a fan of musicals, as well as this one, but my daughter had a two year obsession with "Wicked" so we had to see the show and this Soundtrack played in my home incessantly. Most have their fav artists that played the role, so I'm not surprised when other vocalists are personally preferred . It is indeed a big belty song, and that was the idea I wanted to share. I must say in three years in these comment sections while being a fan, I've never had a more mature and respectful exchange than this! Godbless!
She clearly oversang this one but good thing she corrected it in this other live performance ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vuxU4ROGxRk.html As a great singer she should know how she oversang. The other performance is also more expressive. Morisette is the best singer of the Philippines right now but I don’t like it when she oversings. In the Philippines, this is the norm but personally, I am used to a more subdued type of singing, especially if it’s a broadway song.
