Patrick Prendergast - I'm also Catholic christian. I stopped watching 3/4 way. I was curious to see what their services are like. couldn't continue watching. I guess I'm way too used to starting with prayer, being welcomed in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, then readings from Holy Scripture throughout mass. I couldn't really understand what was going on here. Did it make sense to you? My Protestant friend and I visit each others churches and both start basically the same. Us Catholic go through way more Scripture though(which I enjoy, so does he) Can't watch anymore. Did they eventually take out an actual Bible and preach from the Word of God?

Most people didn't even have access to a Bible during the early days so when you say trust and believe in your Bible but people didn't have a Bible, Now what? This is the problem with most Christians is that what may have been standard teaching has actually evolved into a different teaching if you don't believe me just read some old Christian books before the 1800's. Your feelings are valid the more knowledge you learn. If you make decisions on feelings without the knowledge then that is called a gamble.

This is a special service. It's called a stake conference. They occur twice per year in stakes. Stakes are divisions made up of usually 6-10 congregations called wards or branches. Stake conferences usually have more speakers than a regular ward/branch Sunday service, last about two hours, and often have higher up leadership as speakers.
Do they talk about God being an exalted man living in a planet near Kolob? Or that God had sex with the Virgin Mary to create Jesus? Or is that good stuff left out till you have new converts paying tithing? Just curious.

I am teaching about being a peacemaker this week in my class. Just like Christ taught during his ministry. All potential members are taught about the law of tithing before baptism. There is nothing wrong with covenants with God. Other churches believe the same thing.

Mormons are generally "moral" people. But being a moral person, is not what saves you. No one is justified by their own righteousness. (Galatians 2:16) No one is good enough, our good works are like filthy rags in the eyes of God, stained by our sin. (Isaiah 64:6) Only the righteousness of God justifies us, through the blood of Christ alone, not our works. It's his righteousness, the righteousness of God given to us as a free gift, not our own. (Romans 10:3-4)
Question do the Mormons read only from the book of mormons not the bible cause when they come to my house they always say they use both, however in this video there is no reading from the bible. I been thinking about joining however, if they dont use the bible what is the point.
Hello, I'm just reading through the comments because I'm curious what people think of a mormon sacrament meeting. The answer to your question is "yes". Mormons most definitely do believe in the bible. As I'm sure you know, the new testament testifies of Christ's life here on earth. The world has had the bible for thousands of years. The book of mormon like the bible testifies of Christ's dealings with men on earth. It is "another testament of Jesus Christ". It is a record of the first people to live on the american continent. And how they got there and when. They were led by God through a prophet named, "Lehi" (Lee - high). Lehi was commanded by God to leave Jerusalem with his family and journey in the wilderness to be guided to the promised land. This took place 600 years before Christ was born in Bethlehem (a cool fact: part of the book of mormon and the bible were written in the same time era. Just in two different locations). You can download on your phone an app called "gospel library". The picture of the app is a man playing a trumpet. The man and the trumpet are both gold. If you download this app you will have access to the digital copies of the old and new testament, the book of mormon and other books that Mormons study from. You can click on "scriptures" in that app and it will take you to those different sets of scriptures I listed just now. Click on "book of mormon" and read the introduction. And see what you think. I'm mormon and read both. In Sunday school we use both. We usually focus on one set at a time, using the other scriptures to reform what we are studying.
Mormons do read the Bible. They say the believe it's the word of God, but then they also say they think it's been mistranslated and so they rely more on the Book of Mormon which they believe is a more "correct" book, and the other mormon writings to establish what doctrines they actually believe in. The Bible is held in high regard, but they don't fully rely on it, compared to the Book of Mormon and their other writings, in which they fully trust. At the same time, they absolutely do have conviction that it is the word of God, they do believe that, and so that's how you can reach out to them. But the truth is distorted by the fact that they don't fully trust the Bible still, and add to that the other stuff they learn which is not from the scriptures in the Bible - and then you have a very different belief about who and what God is, even though it *sounds* the same a lot of the time, with the same words used. Those words, just mean very different things to Mormons compared with Christians. Even the word "God".

This isn’t a typical meeting, but our usual meeting is still being done during covid. We split up our “wards” or congregation so we meet at different times to take the sacrament or a type of communion
Im catholic, I just got interested because i've been following the Jodie Arias Trial and the Death of Travis Alexander who was a mormon it has played a big roll in the the trial and i had no idea want it was all about but i Know it was a big part of his life

Hi I am a member of the Mormon church :) No, they don't have to wear white, however, during our sacrament when the bread and water is passed, the men participating are asked to wear white in remembrance of Christ's atonement and how he washed our sins to be made white again. It isn't forced at all and its more of a personal choice :)
The white shirts and nice sunday dress is pretty standard and It's a requirement when performing an ordnance like passing the sacrament. However our bishop use to keep extra white shirts and ties in his office just in case the young men came to church without it. It's just to show reverence to set a mood of cleanliness.
We all believe in something. Even though everyone has different interpretation we all believe in a higher power. God can be represented in different ways.

This looks like it was a Stake conference, hence the long meeting, big congregation, big choir, and the fact that they had no problem with you filming. Most stakes (a collection of congregations) will have a conference twice a year. Most stakes will film it and sometimes broadcast it online for those who can't make it. But yeah, this is pretty typical of any stake conference. Regular Sunday services are very similar, except the speakers would have been youth and adults from the congregation and the sacrament would have been passed before the sermons. Oh and if you weren't on a university campus there would be a bunch of loud kids in the pews! :) If you don't believe me check it out yourself. It's all open to the public, just walk in!

Trust me, I grew up Catholic, with a Catholic father who abused my mother and I all throughout my childhood and into my young adulthood. When two very beautiful girls, who have become adopted sisters to me, introduced me to the Book of Mormon, they started me on a spiritual journey that would change my life in Jesus Christ. One of them, actually named Faith, is currently serving her mission in Oregon, and is one of the greatest inspirations to me.

This is probably a good representation of their typical Sunday meeting or perhaps a stake conference (see the comment from Deseret Home). What goes on in the temple are baptisms (including for the dead), endowment ceremonies, priesthood ordination, and sealings (marriages). And each Mormon must have a temple recommend to participate in the temple ceremonies.

you're not even supposed to leave your house on the sabbath according to the bible so you're technically not following the sabbath if you leave your home to worship in a church on the sabbath

While in the desert nobody had a home of his own, so in order to keep the right environment for the Sabbath, they were commanded to stay at home.

So, combining #s 1 and 2, will you please then make an annotation that covers up the top section of text (the "Mormon Church of Latter Day Saints" part) and replaces it with "General session of the Tempe, Arizona University Stake Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" (and then leave the lower half with the date intact)? 4. And then will you do that same thing to the title that you typed in right above the description? 5. this isn’t the true structure of the church. This is a regional conference. A local Sacrament Meeting or type of mass is a little different. Sometimes drake conference that is being shown is a little boring sometimes
Just because you find it boring doesn't mean it's boring to other people. To Mormon this church service mean everything to them. Every Sunday they make their way to church because they WANT TO. They could have spent the day at the beach or at home all day sitting on the couch stuffing their face with pizza while playing videos games. But they go to church because they enjoy it. People always say America is the land of the free but I highly doubt it. You want Christians to be open minded to everything you believe in and if not you persecute them, but you close the doors when it comes to their believe. And that right there is hypocritical.

I disagree with the Mormon theology, but I have nothing against them. My criticism of Mormonism is no more toxic than my disagreement with Roman Catholicism, evangelical Protestants, mainline Protestants, nor Eastern Orthodoxy. I am Anglican, and that works for me. To help you understand, Mormon congregations are called "Wards". Wards are led by a Bishop, whose role is similar to that of a Reverend, Pastor, or Priest. Multiple Wards in the same area make up "Stakes of Zion", or simply "Stakes". Stakes are led by a Stake President. Throughout the year, all the Wards in a given area, who typically attend different LDS Church locations, will come all together at the same time and same location to worship together. Instead of typical speakers and typical Sunday School Classes, special speakers from across the Stake give sermons, including Stake leaders, as well as other Church leaders from time to time. During these special Stake Conferences, all members of the Stake get to conduct business that effects them both on a local congregational level as well as on a Stake-wide level.

To be fair, this isn't a typical LDS Church service. This is called a Stake Conference, which is an uncommon service comprised of multiple Mormon congregations, led by a member of the Stake Presidency instead of a local Bishop.
jeffy john A common Mormon worship service is very structured and simple. The actual service is only an hour long. Basically, the Bishop or someone from the Bishopric gets up and makes any announcements that need to be made to the congregation. We sing an opening hymn, have an opening prayer, then sing another hymn while the Sacrament is prepared. The Sacrament is the Mormon version of Communion, with bread and water that is blessed and passed by the young men of the congregation. After we have the Sacrament, we have a speaker, usually an intermediate hymn, then two more speakers. The speakers are contacted every week by a member of the Bishopric and are given a specific topic to create a sermon or "talk" to give - topics can be about the Bible, Jesus, the Book of Mormon, the Holy Ghost, having faith, showing love and compassion, personal experiences with God, etc. Speakers can be anyone from the congregation, youth included. Each talk typically lasts from seven to fifteen minutes. After the final speaker, we sing a closing hymn, have a benediction (closing prayer), and then go to our Sunday School classes.

I am Catholic and have been to many Mormon services. There are so many wonderful things missing from these services. First, true presence in the Eucharist. Second the true gospel. And as important as the Eucharist, is that the building does not look like God's house. There are no crosses, nor reverence. I always feel like I'm at a town meeting. There is nothing more beautiful nor meaningful than a Catholic mass. AND, it is all scriptural! Peace be with you!

Secondly, house of worship for their god and Joseph Smith, a man who gets ranked up there with god. In the bible there were many great prophets, but Christians do not rank them next to God Himself. They are mouthpieces for our Lord. Last and most importantly, Jesus is not considered God Himself, which is a problem. Only God can die for us and forgive sins. The true gospel is the good news that God saves sinners. Man is by nature sinful and separated from God with no hope of remedying that situation. God has declared that man’s sin dooms him to an eternity in hell, separated from God. It is in hell that man pays the penalty of sin against a holy and righteous God. This would be bad news indeed if there were no remedy. But in the gospel, God, in His mercy, has provided that remedy, a substitute for us-Jesus Christ-who came to pay the penalty for our sin by His sacrifice on the cross. This is the essence of the gospel which Paul preached to the Corinthians. In 1 Corinthians 15:2-4, he explains the three elements of the gospel-the death, burial and resurrection of Christ on our behalf. Our old nature died with Christ on the cross and was buried with Him. Then we were resurrected with Him to a new life (Romans 6:4-8). Paul tells us to “hold firmly” to this true gospel, the only one which saves. Believing in any other gospel is to believe in vain. In Romans 1:16-17, Paul also declares that the true gospel is the “power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes” by which he means that salvation is not achieved by man’s efforts, but by the grace of God through the gift of faith (Ephesians 2:8-9).

The ward meetings remind me of a business meeting. Releasing people from their "callings", appointing new people to those "callings" etc. There is very little talk about Jesus or the Bible or anything else scriptural. There is no uplifting sermon/homily from a pastor since they have none. Repeating meaningless testimonies of the "church" but not of God or his gospel. I found the entire service disengaging bordering on depressing.

This is a stake conference, not state. A stake is made up of several churches (or wards) in an area, somewhat like parishes make up a diocese in the Catholic church. Stake conferences are held twice a year, but members meet & worship every Sunday in their local chapels in their local church meetinghouses.

Usually it indicates to people you're a non LDS visitor when you wear something other than white shirts. At smaller wards they will notice you aren't part of their ward no matter what you wear.
You know what is so sad is that no one seems to be smiling or happy. They continue to protest that things are true, Jospeh Smith was a prophet and so on. this isn’t the true structure of the church. This is a regional conference. A local Sacrament Meeting or type of mass is a little different. Sometimes drake conference that is being shown is a little boring sometimes
